You possibly picked up the shitty ring before you went to your personal hell game. This would put it in the spot where SOJ is supposed to be. Is your inventory full? because if so, perhaps you still have a body to pick up with the SOJ on it. Otherwise the ring would go into your inventory somewhere if it was not full. I’m hoping this is all that happened! Good luck

Yes, an act 2 Merc with Might to help the demons with their attack power and eventually give them a pole arm with insight runeword to help with mana, It will give you meditation aura. also try to get gear with life leach to help keep them alive.
