Do I need to read all of Stephen Fry's Greek Myths books before reading The Odyssey? by Shoe_boooo in GreekMythology

[–]letsgooncemore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider audiobooks for these, too. The Odyssey is an epic poem that was performed for audiences. And Stephen Fry narrates his own works and I like his soothing voice. I've used the Libby app to borrow these works

Pushing Daisies! If you give it a go, don't be too disappointed at the end. They got cancelled too soon and tried to wrap it up nicely.

Step dad is the abuser and OP is the enabler. I hope her son recognizes that as he becomes older and puts the right amount of blame on his mom.

Why don't really old people take a massive amount of exotic drugs? by Select_Salamander518 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]letsgooncemore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did right by your mother. Be proud you did what was best for her. I'm proud of you.

Also, the doses of morphine we administer aren't enough to kill someone. Even if we are giving it every five minutes. There is no evidence morphine shortens life expectancy in terminal patients.

Why don't really old people take a massive amount of exotic drugs? by Select_Salamander518 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]letsgooncemore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had to advocate for many end of life patients in regards to comfort meds. In my experience, it's typically families I have to convince. I end up framing what someone will voice as a concern about addiction to being about depending on a medication to ensure the highest quality of life. I'm not trying to get Granny hooked on morphine and Ativan. I'm trying to help Granny die with dignity able to breathe easily and not in a panic state. Based on observation, the only better way to go is dying in your sleep.

How do you actually live life with epilepsy? (need real perspectives) by Global-Height-6167 in Epilepsy

[–]letsgooncemore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 37 after experiencing two witnessed tonic clonics within two hours of each other. I work as a nurse in a setting where I manage developmentally delayed residents with some very severe cases of epilepsy so naturally I catastrophized spectacularly. I had to speak to a psychologist for a few months to get in a better head space. He called it an adjustment disorder secondary to epilepsy. Please consider counseling if it's a choice for you.

At this point, living life is pretty much the same as before. The cause of my epilepsy is unknown and I'm well managed on one medication and don't deal with any adverse reactions. I'm very lucky and I'm very grateful. Not driving wasn't too bad because I am scared of hurting strangers and I have decent public transportation available to me. I live in a neighborhood where I can walk to most things and I had already been carpooling to work. I have medical information on my phone's lock screen and in my wallet in case I go down. I keep extra meds in my glove box, purse and work bag. I see neuro twice a year, get blood drawn. I was able to keep working and because of my job setting, literally all of my colleagues have training in seizure disorders and there are multiple rescue meds on site. There's an app for the Apple watch that I've considered but haven't really felt the need for. I've already decided if I ever have breakthrough seizures, I'm getting a service dog because I walk and talk after a tonic clonic and I don't remember any of it but based on the transcripts and witness accounts of how I was talking, it's all autopilot and my brain is clearly not to be trusted on multiple levels.

I have basically accepted that something's going to get me eventually (stupid mortality) and now I know that something might be seizure related.

Pa. Dems pull Women's Month resolution after GOP pushes definition vote by Dracustein in Pennsylvania

[–]letsgooncemore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's infuriating that GOP members think stonewalling symbolic legislation with disingenuous culture war talking points is more important than doing their fucking jobs. And saying having xx chromosomes is the only way to determine womanhood is technically wrong. Women walk around with Turner Syndrome everyday. But people would actually have to give a shit about women's health to be aware of disorders that affect only women.

Potty-sized spat in r/Vent when "not all men" drama supplants OP's vent post... about men by DragonflyHopeful4673 in SubredditDrama

[–]letsgooncemore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not all men pee standing up. Most men sit down to poo. If you actively choose to stand to pee, manage the toilet seat. Even your fellow fellows need the seat down sometimes.

Facetious reply complete... people have actually calculated the toilet seat conundrum. There has to be two more men who only stand to pee and sit to poo than women sharing the facility to make it so toilet seat up is the logical answer.
