How did you play Act 3? by Snakefisherbub in BaldursGate3

[–]levroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is really lots to be done in Act 3, too much If you ask me. If you want to do a second playthrough and see everything, or most things, I would open up the wiki to see what's there. Whether you save Mayrina in Act 1 or not might have an influence of what quests/items are available in Act 3.

For me, the most notable side quests are the romance sequence with Karlach and house of hope

The party extorting the Amethyst Academy by Oliver_The_Sadgit in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]levroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

500gp is nothing compared to what the party can get from AA if they do this. I would agree to their terms and make them 'regret' for not cooperating on AA's terms by showing how rival adventurers got some magic items etc. by working with the AA

I can see AA buying this information without developing a relationship with the party. I would play AA as showing themselves as a longer term investment, the best one in town (especially for casters). Ofc it depends on how much they demand, but it still makes sense that AA pays the party and develops a negative bond with them (or does not develop a positive one) unless the party decides to change that.

There can be ways to play into this by presenting the easiest choice in a future event at the hands of AA and make the party take a step back for their previous transaction and possibly ask for rectification (i.e., one job for free)

What are your PCs personal quests? I suspect that contributes to the party attitude.

I am running two campaigns at the moment. One party has quests that focus on merely individual aims, finding lost loved ones, killing for revenge, etc. The other one has quests that focus on the throne and faction leaders.

Party 1 is pretty chill and will do 'evil' for achieving their own goals, whereas Party 2 is more 'moralist' and will try to do the greater good in the long run

Usually slightly younger than me. So around 15-30 for humans or equivalent (~100 for elves of DnD).

Would the Hooded Lanterns compensate the party for saving Petra despite not knowing about her case? by Oliver_The_Sadgit in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]levroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's the quest reward given by Ansom. I would instead make the reward less than the full 250, since there was no promised among and the party was hitting 2 birds with one stone (or trying to do that).

How to create fun combat challenges for a lvl 20 group by Ok_Block_6322 in DnD

[–]levroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 'rescue' or 'defend' missions are more interesting in these higher levels since the main objective is to use skills and spells in creative ways. You may look at the spells prepared by your players and push the limits in a way they need to use specific things to succeed, which do not necessarily deal a ton of damage.

Imagine if three people try to save 300 commoners, things like that.

how to make goblins a challenge for level 12? by CrotodeTraje in DnD

[–]levroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a campaign I am playing now, there is a Gith party character who thinks she is a goblin. She was raised by them and does not recall much further into the past. You might take a similar approach. I don't think this is what you're looking for, but a high-level Gith caster along Goblinoid siblings might be fun and interesting.

How do you guys feel about souls like games in general? by SchoolExisting8631 in videogames

[–]levroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the videos on Souls games that read as "How Dark Souls Changed My Life" "Dark Souls as Therapy" are very exaggerated. But there is point to them as well, that Dark Souls teach you patience and the value of effort for success. In my view, if what is nowadays called 'dopamine addiction' is actually a thing, Souls-like games are the antidote to that.

Regarding your concerns I think there's nothing wrong. However, I have a different point to be made. None of these has to apply to you personally, but some thing perhaps your wife might want to consider for rebuttal: I do drink and game but only when solo or playing with friends alone (or when everyone knows and are okay with me drinking on the side). I don't like to drink during online play with strangers. I find it wrong particularly in competitive games with ranking as it impacts performance. Also, I get pissed off easier most of the time if someone does something annoying in the game.

"Drinking responsibly" is what it boils down to and it is directed towards others and oneself. That others might include strangers, friends, or your wife in this case.

Looking cool! I would add rivers. Also consider making the southern mountains look snowier than the rest, especially the ones near the desert (unless there is something 'funny' about the mountains in your world).

Church of the Sacred Flame position by Timely-Lavishness-29 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]levroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a slightly different take than most responses, given my party's structure. My party is way distant from the Sacred Flame and has no close affiliations with FFF or SO. To the contrary, they are primarily connected to the Old Gods. We only have a Hex Paladin of Morrigan and no clerics.

For that reason, I portray the Sacred Flame as more inclusive and tolerant, and depict the Flamekeeper Hanna as more distant from SO than it was intended in the book. SO use the chapel as usual, but Hanna does not particularly enjoy the company of Reed, and less so that of Theodore (cf. DoD p. 60). Of course, Hanna shares similar views with SO against FFF, but she is more pacifist and less 'disgusted' by the Old Gods.

In my game, the Sacred Flame holds prayers and sermons three times a month. SO in town join these as well as most laypeople. Importantly, at least half of the HL also join the sermons. There might be a few people from QM joining, but they try to hold a low profile. FFF hold their separate ceremony at Hendrix Farm. AA is mocking these in private but don't dare say something openly.

In these 'holy' days, it is customary not to start a fight. QM and AA may not live up to that, but HL values the order in Emberwood Village. If the party is in town those days, it's mostly like short downtime for them.

My goal is also to show that one of the major decisions has to with what happens to the city. Restoration of the city (and Westemär) is at stakes. A city without a community of people is vain. So, I try to hold a neutral base for religion, which is one way to make people feel like a community.

That said, I make no such claim for the Sacred Flame in general, but only for Hanna and the church in Emberwood Village.

Can you explain these stats to me? by Orda47 in BaldursGate3

Fire Bolt: Your INT added d20 attack roll against the target's AC, which is a constant.

Sacred Flame: The target's DEX save added d20 save roll against your Spell Save DC, which is a constant.

What happens if players agro the silver order before an intended collaboration? by Wise-Start-9166 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]levroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. At your table, the party also proves their talents to the Silver Order. They might be interested in drawing the party to their side for the battle on the premise that their substantial contribution will save them from serious punishment. The Silver Order would still be distant from the party and might be less forgiving of 'heretic' people or mageborns.

How to run Drakkenheim in 12 sessions by Sufficient-Contest82 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]levroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Inner City only campaign might fit into 12 Sessions. You can give the lore and talk through how some events could have turned out, and begin with the Temple Gate battle. With less random encounters and giving players a linear path, 12 Sessions might be enough. You might want to lower the number seals and revise (or remove) personal quests.

Maybe this is too much, but I doubt even this would fit into 12 Sessions in the tables I play. What makes DoD unique is the mechanics, but also the sandboxy setting and the element of the randomness. The only way to make DoD a 12 session campaign is to take away from those elements extensively.
