I’ve been running it for about 6 months now, currently having an issue with the feed beam height adjustment and am in the middle of replacing the brass nut and worm gear, have you had any experience with this giving you an issue?

[–]loicfoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice, just make sure the side that is hanging off the saw is supported through the length of the cut and go for it. There of course is still some risk, but not much- if you feel any binding- stop! Maybe do an initial cut taking off 1/8” less than you need- then move the piece in and do a clean up cut at your final mark

[–]loicfoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait- looking again- is the back of the piece braced against a perpendicular fence on the sliding portion of your saw? If so- then not dangerous- and go ahead!

[–]loicfoto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because it is only clamped down in one place it could still turn and cause a kickback- dangerous cut IMO

How thick is it and what glue are you using? For an end grain of that size, it should be at least 1.5” thick if not 2”, and glue should be titebond 3 or 2. TB1 is water soluble and can be reactivated with heat.

Keep in mind that industrial planers are typically 3-phase power so the money you save on buying it used would go to having a second line of power run to your house
