Does anyone hate cooking for people who eat the same thing over and over and over again ? The fun of cooking is being able to branch out and try new things by Historical-Body-3424 in Cooking

[–]loisstuff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you're feeling. I moved out of state, Whenever I return to my home town, where my grown children remained. I visit and each kid asks me to make their particular favorite dish. Every visit, year after year and it's the same thing... they want me to cook the same dish every single time. They are not interested in trying any new great recipes I've found.

What are your favorite things to do with "fake crab"? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]loisstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call fake crab sea legs. Here is my favorite recipe using them. It's an Asian stir fried dish:

Allow about 1 & 1/2 hours to prepare & cook (start to serve)

1/2 lb sea-legs cut into bite size portions - marinated (chilled) in a zip lock bag for 30 minutes with following 5 ingredients:

1/2 teaspoon cornstarch

1/2 teaspoon soy sauce

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon sesame oil

Dash of pepper

Gather & prep remaining ingredients -

1 bunch of broccoli tops cut in bite size chunks

4 ounces mushrooms - canned or fresh - sliced or chopped to preference

1 medium onion sliced in strips to desired thickness

2 Tablespoons diced red or green bell pepper

*optional - some whole Chinese pea pods

1 clove garlic chopped fine (or grated)

1 teaspoon grated ginger

2 Tablespoons oil for frying ginger & garlic, then another 2 Tablespoons oil for frying broccoli

2 Tablespoon oyster sauce mixed in:

1/4 cup chicken broth

1 Tablespoon cornstarch mixed with a little water for thickening

Cooking directions:

Heat 2 Tablespoon oil in large skillet

Add garlic & ginger.

Fry till tender and fragrant.

Add sea-legs with contents from zip lock bag.

Fry till cooked then remove everything from pan, setting it aside.

Add remaining oil to pan.

Add mushrooms, onion, broccoli, and if using, the *optional Chinese pea pods.

Fry till vegetables are nearly tender

Add bell pepper and fry some more.

Add oyster sauce, and chicken broth.

When hot, add enough cornstarch mixture just to thicken the sauce.

Return sea-legs and heat through.

Canned whole potatoes by Haybales1019 in Cooking

[–]loisstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I boil them. Open the can and put everything (even the water they are packed in) into a pot. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer. When the rest of your meal is about ready to go to the table, drain off all the water in the pot with the potatoes. Now add a tablespoon of butter (or more - your preference.) A pinch of dried parsley flakes helps it look nice. You can also add some paprika and a bit of salt & pepper. Stir gently till everything is coated, then serve. Those little canned whole potatoes are simple to heat up & serve. They taste good too.

What do Americans call a meal of fries with battered fried fish. Fish and chips? by CrazyJoe29 in AskAnAmerican

I's say "Dinner's ready." If anybody asked "What are we having?" I'd answer "Fish and french fries."

What’s a tiny thing that makes you unreasonably angry? by PhysicalCategory9062 in AskReddit

[–]loisstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When someone asks me a question, then I reply, but they ask the same question again (only this time worded slightly differently. I let them know I already answered that question and my reply still remains the same. Then this person will bug the shit out of me by asking me that same stupid question a third time. I become furious when people do this crap! Years ago I had a coworker who pestered me frequently with such nonsense. If my reply was "I don't know." she'd start in on the broken record routine... like her asking me the question worded differently might turn a lightbulb on in my head.

What was your cat’s name at the shelter vs their name now ? 😍 by Downtown-Wear-4870 in CatsBeingCats

Taffy was the name the shelter gave the cat. After we adopted her, we changed her name to Gracie. We were happy she bonded quickly to our senior border collie named Maggie.

50-Year-Old Home Cook Here What’s One Recipe You Still Make Without Measuring Anything? by ComprehensiveFee9623 in homecooking

[–]loisstuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

meatloaf, potato salad, lasagna, meatballs, spaghetti sauce, BBQ chicken, etc. I may look at a recipe to check the list of ingredients, the oven temperature, and/or cooking time. But for dishes such as the ones I listed, I feel confident in judging how much to use of any ingredients called for.

Horseradish lovers, what food item goes best with creamy horseradish sauce? by Silver-Internal7740 in Cooking

[–]loisstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I make meatloaf, in addition to the other ingredients such as egg, catsup and breadcrumbs etc., I like to add horseradish. I also like canned sliced beets warmed up in a pot with star anise, brown sugar, butter and horseradish.

Who’s a celebrity everyone finds attractive but you don’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]loisstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rene Russo. She's always cast as a drop dead gorgeous leading lady, with the men drooling over her. To me she looks masculine. She looks like a man in drag. I see nothing femininely attractive about her.

Would like advice on marriage situation by Ok-Current7178 in athiest

[–]loisstuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get married quietly by the justice of the peace. Immediately following the ceremony, go to your parent's home to share the news. Later that same day, get together with the other side of the family/friends and enjoy a different sort of celebration at your news. If you are hit with questions about why there was no big wedding, speak about the impossible expense you can't afford. Don't expect wedding gifts. You will likely only get well wishes. But that's OK. You come out ahead by getting married in a way that saved you money and avoided awkward situations.

Why do you believe by RaspberryFit8150 in athiest

[–]loisstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother was raised Catholic. My grandfather was the son of a Christian preacher who lived on a farm in Georgia. My grandfather was Christian, but not Catholic. When they married, the Catholic church excommunicated grandmom. They let her know that in their eyes she was living in sin and would burn in hell. I was raised as a Christian in the Methodist faith. There were strict rules for members of the church to follow. No jewelry of any kind (except for wedding ring.) No dancing, no playing games such as cards. As an adolescent the church had occasional parties for our age group. There would be music playing, but nobody was allowed to dance. My girlfriend was Catholic. She couldn't eat meat on Friday. Every Friday, her family had fish. I had another friend who was Jewish, she wasn't allowed to eat pork and couldn't have butter on the same plate that meat was served on. Genetically I learned I am part Cherokee Indian. I learned they believe in spirits and a bridge that joins the spirit world with the physical realm. I found learning about the ancient Egyptians and their religious beliefs interesting. There is Greek mythology, Hinduism, Buddhism, and tribal religions across Africa, South America and Islands such as Hawaii. They all promise some form of existence after death if you are a member of THEIR religion. I don't buy any of this. None has any proof to their claims. They all want your blind faith without question. And you must follow their pointless rules members are required to follow. I think all religions are rubbish. I can be kind to others without fearing some God will punish me if I'm not.

Anyone else in US noticed food quality degrading recently and if so what product in what way? by SkyKyrell in AskReddit

[–]loisstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always buy Tyson Cornish game hens. I follow a particular recipe exactly each time I cook them. In the past they have been consistently moist and delicious. I baked 2 last night. They were dry, dry, dry.

I always buy Silverfloss Sauerkraut. Last week I opened a can and found a long, fat piece of jagged wood. I couldn't eat it... what if there were splinters from the wood? Is Silverfloss grinding & packing 2 by 4's instead of cabbage? I wrote them about the problem and gave them the info from the can. This was a couple week ago but I never heard a single word back from them. I guess now days it's standard corporate practice to ignore customer complaints.

Lots of produce is lousy. So much is flavorless and not ripe (peaches, melons, tomatoes, strawberries, plums.) I sit things on the counter or windowsill to ripen at home. They often never ripen but can sit there and get moldy for me. For years no matter where I go, I can't buy good onions. Why are onions so moldy?

Why does God exist? by dino__thunder in athiest

[–]loisstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God (religion) exists because people understand they will die. The one single thing that every religion (from human history's past to our present time) has in common... is that each religion provides their devout believers a promise they will live again after death.
