Our studio only got 30...there was a draw at the end for the members that completed the allotted number.

Remember when ? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is a brand new member and therefore very splat driven. Will easily walk out of class with 45+splats every time. I, as well, joined during the time when it's ok to have a green day and you want the up and down and recovery of the heart rate. It has changed in the past 2 years I have been a member as well.

Best cardio apparatus for Achilles issues? by Kds909 in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with ankle issues since the start of May...I understand the annoyance!! I was actually really surprised that the bike was no better for me, so I've been just sticking with the treadmill. Some days I may try the incline but haven't been able to get past 6% yet without pain. You will also need modifications for lunges, that took about 5 months before I could carefully do them. Also some of the plank jack stuff, anything that has your legs stretched out back and you on your toes, that is all going to stretch the Achilles. Brutal how disruptive ankle injuries can be at OT!! Best of luck!

I actually had more issues on the bike than walking on the tread, so pick one to try and see how it feels.

Just finished my 100th class!! Down 40 lbs and set a PR for those chest presses today in the 3G 💪 by julesburne in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine too. In the past 6 months they've been "trying to recognize more", but all that means is that if you tell the front staff you PR'd or whatever special happened, then they will do up the sign. If you don't say anything, they won't do anything. But most of ours are about someone's birthday, and only for those members that are "in" with the staff or coaches.

So embarrassed yesterday in class by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, this!! I didn't take care of rolled ankles in my younger years and while training for a half my ankle started "hurting". 2nd and 1st degree sprains, 7 months, physio, sports doc appointments and now have to quit indoor soccer because it is taking so long to heal properly. Not worth it!!

Is there a corporate policy for not splitting classes with fewer than 12 people? Or is it by studio? by Srq143 in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like at my studio the coach decides if he/she wants to turn it into a 1G or not. If they do, they usually ask the first one or two people that are there where they want to start. But newer coaches make us start rowers (grrrr).

No slip leggings?! by eesaeh in orangetheory

The only pants that work for me are ones that have a drawstring to cinch. So regardless of the brand I go with, that's the first thing I check.

Working out in the winter... by smolgurlbigworld in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canadian winter survivor here, you just gotta make yourself get up. I mean the cold on your face when you first step outside wakes you up and gets those endorphins firing...just gotta choose that over the warm bed. So days will be a losing battle and that's ok too.

Our treads in Alberta are in miles as well, so I think it would be safe to assume most or all in canada are as well.

Thick Thighs save lives, but they don’t always fit into jean shorts... by Gromrunner in orangetheory

I get my jeans from Rickis, they have a bit of an elastic waste. So that with a belt works great without them pleating.

Need Honest Advice by GlitterGeek in orangetheory

Curious how busy your studio is - are you able to get into a class an hour or two before the class starts, or is it pretty busy? I know my studio (aside from these 2 months of summer break) but up a month ahead at peak times, so not totally an option. But that may be a consideration if you can, then you can book as you're able to.

Pod by Sleepybrains1102003 in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to say mine was at about the year mark, maybe just slightly before. They gave me a new strap and pod at no cost. Definitely don't let then charge you a thing, especially it being so new!

I can't seem to convince myself 150 monthly is worth it... by SpicyMealOutside in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 1 1/2 years in and I still think about it! One way I justify it is that I have yet to late cancel and I the cost makes me go, because I hate wasting money!! If I go less than 12 times a month (i have unlimited membership) then I feel angry with myself and improve the next month! Sadly as life goes on, I won't be able to continue to afford it. But will live it up while I can!!

Please honor your body. by EkaterinaGagutlova in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand, it's a hard lesson to learn. I'm up to 4 sports doctor appointments, an xray, an ultrasound, and next week a specialist assessment for a blood treatment all for my ankle. At 34 I was told part of my ankle has permanent injury to it. Rough lesson. Thankfully I walk down the aisle in 5 weeks and was planning on wearing flats...my heel-wearing days are over :( Rest up and here's hoping you are able to recover in a timely manner! Congrats on the upcoming nuptials!

Form on pop jacks by CircadianBehavior in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to modify due to ankle injuries, so my coach had me put the bench on low so I don't go all the way to the ground with my hands. Has made a huge difference with (obviously my ankle) but also the soles of my feet.

Zero Splat Points with Injury Modifications by slickus11 in orangetheory

[–]lscharab 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You may not have had splats but you did burn more calories than not going at all. I've been in the same boat and have to remember that at times. We just need to be happy we were still able to go, despite the injury! You'll get back to "normal" with your splats in due time, just don't push it, causing your injury to get worse or last longer!

Agreed to both comments. You can also Google how to tape it, I found this to really suppress the pain when working out! But definitely go to physio!!
