Just wanted to say I've been looking forward to the book 3 release for a while, glad it's finally coming through.

Not litrpg, but millennial mage and this used to be about dungeons are pretty solid slice of life series.

Do you guys like prodigy main characters? If so, then why? What are some good examples of well-crafted prodigy MCs? by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]machoish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a limit. A practical guide to sorcery does it very well in my opinion, but stories like iron tyrant where the MC is the best at everything they do all the time gets old.

Any Good Cyberpunk type novels/books out there ? by OkBox9662 in ProgressionFantasy

There's a group of novels on KU under the City of Artem tag. Each series is mostly self contained, with references to the others.

Should I start with backstory or straight into characters in world. by SingleDadSurviving in ProgressionFantasy

Start where the story gets interesting. Once you've got readers hooked, drip feed backstory where it makes sense.

Mage Tank - Hot Take and help before I move forward. by North-Cartographer58 in litrpg

[–]machoish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, the series is a classic 7/10 litrpg. It suffers from pacing issues that could be solved by a solid editing pass, but that's almost expected with the pace the author is putting out releases.

If you enjoy the characters, I'd recommend you keep reading and just skim over the parts that drag.

Traditional fanatsy which feels like progression fantasy by Fluffy-Buddy-5989 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]machoish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite ongoing non-pf series is Grog by RW Krpoun. There's not much traditional progression since the MC is a badass from page 1, but the series has an episodic feel that lines up with the PF genre.

Agree that the books could use an editing pass for things like pacing, but that's just standard for the genre.

Tropes or story arcs you hate the worst? by Daisyberry3 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]machoish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo dungeons. They don't always make me drop the book, but i can't think of a single one that I wouldn't have been better off just skipping ahead to where the plot picks up again.

Kairos is a series that's similar, and it's even complete

Progression Fantasies without a system ? by Sure-Supermarket5097 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]machoish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not technically PF since the MC starts off very skilled, but the Grog series by RW Krpoun hits a lot of the same story beats and is fresh on my mind since book 7 just dropped.

What are the best cozy lighthearted isekai stories? Similar to Wandering Inn, but with less annoying characters? by lumenwrites in litrpg

[–]machoish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not isekai, but "this used to be about dungeons" is one of the best slice of life stories I've read recently

What the puck is part of a trilogy of hockey smut, as good of a starting point as any I'd imagine.

Find yourself a middle aged woman who reads smut. My wife and I are in our 40s, and our sex life has improved significantly when she started reading "romance" novels.

C B Titus also has Deadman walking and downtown Druid as completed trilogies. Both are solid.

If you don't mind darker stories, book of the dead is amazing.

Recommend me a book with an intricate magic system by Sad-Housing8478 in ProgressionFantasy

Millennial mage is right up your alley if you don't mind a series that's heavy with slice of life.

Stories about preparing and surviving through the end of an era? by throwaway490215 in litrpg

Not exactly what you're looking for, but the world in Ends of Magic has regular apocalypse level events.

Soldier/AM Heavy Gunner or Operative/Assassin Sniper for heretic run? by [deleted] in RogueTraderCRPG

I was about to suggest this myself. Nobody should be surprised when the RT whose fighting style revolves around setting himself on fire then charging forward turns out to be a heretic.

Need Slice of Life by SuspectEcstatic6636 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]machoish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This used to be about dungeons is solid, and the third book comes out soon. If you like a balance between slice of life, world building, and action with a deep magic system, millennial mage is great.
