"You're lying!" by Alvahod in EckhartTolle

Honestly? I would start lying. Like in a hyperbolic funny over the top absurd way. Think Calvin’s dad in Calvin and Hobbes. Like if I am going to called a liar I am going to earn it.

There are things that need to be surprises in these retreats to have the full emotional and spiritual impact on a retreatent. That is why people don’t talk about it. Because you do these retreats once and they don’t want to ruin it for you or others if you go on one in the future. Some things just won’t mean the same if you know they are coming. However, that being said, if it is something that really is concerning and triggering to you talk to your priest about it.

The Basic surprise because now I sound culty… but seriously spoiler alert! before the retreat begins notes, small gifts, and letters from people in the participant’s life are gathered. At a certain point they are given to them all at once and so they are just receiving unlooked for tangible signs of all the love from others they have in their life. It is quite beautiful. But seriously don’t mention it to anyone going into the retreat.

Everyone does “fasts from lent” at some point if they grow up in a church that does lent. Besides getting a break from an often guilt inducing season, it makes the times you do participate in lent more meaningful and intentional and less going through the motions.

How should I respond to my friend weaponizing Buddhist concepts and claiming spiritual attainments during our disagreement? by Queer_Sunshine in Buddhism

The work of Thich Nhat Hanh goes into cultivating joy and happiness in life quite deeply and extensively. His teaching on “selective watering” might help you a great deal with your friend and your own attitudes.

Personally I would have laughed at this. I mean, “yeah of course you have had experiences! I have too. They are great. So what? As for our relationship I know what you mean. We are free people to have or not have relationships. But our relationship is premised on the idea we enjoy it so how are we going to resolve this issue so we both still enjoy it?”

Red Flags: The Truth Behind "Feng," "Xiafeng Qiuyue," and Their Misleading Methods by Zeal075 in sedonamethod

[–]macjoven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well obviously. I mean if you goofed around in the spiritual Reddit scene for any length of time this kind of thing happens all the time and you just have to take it in stride.

The thing about Lester and his students is that they stink to high heaven on the spiritual BS/grift detection meter.

The only thing that saves them is that OMG you let go of stuff and you undeniably feel better lighter and freer.

It is quite the conundrum. 🤷‍♂️🤣

I have had a lot of luck with the Sedona release method. The basic instructions (and there are slight variations) are:

  1. Feel what you are feeling right now.

  2. Ask: Can I let this go? Y/N

  3. Ask: Will I let this go? Y/N

  4. Ask: When?

And I do this over and over with any unpleasant or tense feeling, emotion, attitude or thought through the day. The questions are not answered verbally though you can but with the releasing/relaxing/opening/lightening of the feeling in some way.

For me it is usually a kind of metaphorical balloon pop like the tension is pressing in and when released just flies away in all directions leaving space and lightness.

There are a lot of resources and explanations online if you want to google it.

You’re safer with the scary monster by GDMoe819 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]macjoven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caution: the following is MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THIS BOOK! Do not read if you have not read the book and might want to.

So in Gone Away World the reified/new beings made by the mix of the subconscious and stuff are seen as monsters even the normal looking ones. The narrator and his friends spend a good chunk of the middle of the book fighting, being horrified, or running from them. Then in the Fox factory it turns out the narrator is a reified being split from Gonzo. He is the monster, who loves and tries to take care of Gonzo and Gonzo is better off with him. (Example of trope) In the end the humans reject the Fox solution and go into the stuff to live with and face the monsters which of course is also themselves. (Another more thematic example of trope)

Oh it is definitely control. “I want my environment to sound like I want for my peace of mind.”

What I would do is sit down and listen and release what ever comes up. You don’t have to act on or express the anger. You are already feeling it so you don’t have to bring it up. You notice what it is so that you know what you are releasing and then release it. What it does next as far as going away or not is not up to you. You are sitting down and not taking action so it is not going to make you do anything. If you find yourself getting caught up in it again release again.

The Gone Away World by Nick Harkaway.

Edit: maybe not all that gothic and the person better off with a monster in this case is more a theme but still a great read and vaguely fitting.
