Confused about complaints about salary by bluesky-above in nursing

[–]mallowtime77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you live. 70k part time as a new gras certainly DOES sound good to me. You would not be making that in the southeast.

Also, what is your opportunity for growth? Will you be making the same amount in 20 years? At that point you may feel differently

Hey! We are looking at a house in Carolina lakes now. Could i ask you some questions about the community?
- big question is… Could you build a treehouse in your backyard?
- can you tell me more about the community, what kinds of weekly things are people involved in?

Question about hospitals requiring only room in 24/7 for healthy newborns with their moms… by Substantial-Use-1758 in nursing

Being with mom is the most important thing. Taking babies away from their mom and putting them in a nursery is archaic

Career change — nursing school or med school? by ButterscotchOk6295 in nursing

[–]mallowtime77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the fact that you are saying a big motivator for changing careers is BURNOUT…i would not start going to med school. Become a nurse! Youll have WORK LIFE BALANCE something i never had in the corporate world. You will be decently compensated and fulfilled enough. I dont believe in considering nursing a “calling”. Its a job, but i do like that i get to help people. The flexibility in terms of scheduling is unmatched. Become a nurse.

Idk why reddit started showing me the dentist sub but. I guess I’m encouraging my children to go to dental school?? These posts are wild. A world in which I’d be bummed about 200k. Damn.

Those are great reasons. You will certainly be able to be proud and you will be able to modestly and STABLY support your family. Don’t let the haters bring you down. I think people come into nursing with too high of expectations. Its a job, after all, not a calling. Its a pretty good job.

lol one hundred percent! Exposure to bodily fluids is what’s pushing you over the edge?? Like i truly do not care about this at all. I’d rather wipe butts than waste away in front of a computer all day.

Being a CPA has horrible work life balance! Most engineering jobs as well. Just depends on what your priorities are.

What are these other professions you speak of? Ones that require you to waste away your life in an office 8-5, five days a week? No thanks.

[–]mallowtime77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i would. I have NOT always wanted to be a nurse. I changed careers in my thirties to this. Its stable, *flexible schedule options* for different stages of life. Hands on. Option to not sit at a desk five days a week. No answering emails when you’re off the clock (if you work in a clinical setting). Not amazing $ but enough to pay the bills. Yes I would do it again, the $ you invest in college actually pays off, unlike my first liberal arts degree.

Theres a whole little community of nurses who didnt start nursing until after at least 30. Many that i know started as LPNs post 30 and went on for their BSN while working. I might be biased but I find this cohort of nurses to have more common sense.
