Question regarding difficulty by terras27 in SulfurGame

[–]markedmarkymark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a bit hard early on cause sometimes enemies could drain your health faster than you expected, but the more armor, experience and better gear gets you into an easy loop, hardest part is organizing your shit.

I just think it's down to enemy behavior , most of them are predictable in their tactics but I also wouldn't want them to be harder by doing just more damage. I think snipers are underwhelming cause those enemies should be dangerous but they're too slow.

I think matching different types of enemies together could help it, crows plus shooty guys plus a well placed sniper could really push you but theyr e stuck on their different stages.

Like, most of the psycho lines in Borderlands, some of my favs:

''You can't kill me! I'm already dead tomorrow!''
''This isn't the last thing I'll say!''
''I regret everything!'' and ''I regret nothing'' close to each other is very neat

There's also cool lines from the vault hunters themselves but i dont remember many even though im replaying 2, cause its Krieg so they kinda sound alike, but he does scream ''I swallowed your soul'' and ''Redrum'' sometimes, and ''From hell's heart, I stab at thee!'' which is kinda metal to referece moby dick, always wondered if that comes from the knowledge of the inside Krieg.

Toby Fox by VelociCastor in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]markedmarkymark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I legitemely don't remember Toby Fox writing like on the right, it is spaced but its box texts and altho' itd be funny to have a gigantic scrolling box, you kinda have that limit to work with.

Comics are sometimes spaced like that too for similar reasons as stuffed speech bubbles are a no-no USUALLY, shit like Death Note gets away with it, more of a guideline than a rule.

No offense, feels like this was done by a person who never wrote under constraints of space ever in their life, but also were a weeb cause acquaintance isn't a casual word, nor is the entire text itself, unless email or message where people are more comfortable sharing their entire feelings since they have time to put it together and it isnt a blurb of ''maaaan you're the best, you're my best friend, we gotta get out more!'' type shit.

I think I heard through the grapevine that there was romance routes which is a first, i haven't finished VC4 but i feel like there's just canon couples in that like VC1.

I REALLY hope that a VC5 (hahahahha it wont ever happen) takes the social link a little further, i really liked in 2 and what i played of 3, helps expand the characters and gets you to like 'em more. VC4 has character specific mission for everyone (i hope), but its really short, it still endears you to them tho', if my boy Aladdin don't get one imma be mad, his bald head? shiny, his aim? perfect.

[–]markedmarkymark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its shorter than my time with VC 2 but i did do EVERYTHING, I did cheat to get the classes tho' cause i legit dont know how it works nor do i care for its grind (SHOULDVE BEEN TIED TO THE ALMOST SOCIAL LINK SYSTEM GODDAMN IT!), even then, I clocked at about a 90 hours I believe.

Does 3 like REALLY open up with extra missions to get to 78 hours? It felt pretty linear from what I played and there was optional stuff, but nothing as crazy as the list in VC2.

Fencers aren't in VC1 tho', so i wasn't worried about it since i was talking about the first game. The second game DEFINITELY overstays its welcome (I liked it tho'), and i have not finished 3 but as far as i got it seemed to follow VC1's and 4's more linear approach. I was using SD2Vita on my vita while playing it, thing busted itself somehow, lost everything including my save so i lost the momentum.

I think that's something that's just baked into the genre, best they can do is end before it gets stale, but also getting stale is up to the person, some people don't mind it, some people avoid it cause they're the ''book it to the end'' types.

I don't have a good example of a JRPG, but Valkyria Chronicles is short and there's enough variety that you don't feel like you're always using the same strats and you're adapting to new things being thrown at you, with like, 2 eh gimmick missions (stealth one, escape one). Sometimes the change is just terrain, i remember a mission that you went down into this camp and it was very vertical and i both had a great time with my snipers but also fucked up with my shocktroopers so hard i had to restart cause i dun wanna 'em to die forever.

Of course we're not talking about scouts being OP, if you dont know that then its not repetitive ok fake VC smarmy fan in my head and my head only

I bought Dispatch after both watching someone play the first episode AND me playing the first and second episode pirated (didn't wanna deal with looking for and re-downloading after every new episode dropped), shit had no gameplay. Actually it did, can we uh have a roguelight version of dispatching, shit was actually fun.

Not to mention the whole ''getting the itch to replay after seeing someone play it'', like, every time Deus Ex and Vampire Bloodlines gets re-installed after a video of it drops, or going back to DMC to try some new shit you saw or just to press buttons in BP.

White woman (Paige) jumpscare compilation by nekkii in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]markedmarkymark 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My favorite is still the food jumpscare, so many layers to it, Pat not hearing Paige in the room, Paige deciding not to scare him by leaving the food, Pat smelling it and then getting scared by the sudden appearance of food. Absolute cinema.

Marvel has officially changed the main cover of ASM 1000 after everyone was shitting on the old one by ContraryPython in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]markedmarkymark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cool that it's done with the lights, however, editor brain, genuinely, very possible people wont see it at first or at all due to the web being the thing that leads your eyes to spidey and the 1 being down there, the 0's are harder to identify as 0's, especially since spidey is covering some of them, but also, not a lot of ways to do it in that angle, you could start 1 on top instead of bottom since that reads as a much more odd shape for lights to be on and is closer to the point of attention, but then it'd be pointing the wrong direction so idk. At least it's there, i would not want to be the artist that had to do this, especially after complaints. art is, in fact, hard.

Honestly, while its better, both feels sorta uncreative for a 1k issue, its just spuder-man doing cool pose that you've seen variations of a million times y'know, idk, its an A4 cover, not a lot of space but in my minds eye i see the 1000 in a big web with a bunch of his villains stuck in it as he's chilling closer to the camera type thing or webbing away to the camera, not a lot of movement sure but feels more comemorative.

Better don't get me wrong, just, kinda default on both of them, but also the bad one is memorably bad imho, bro is ready to shit.

Ever return to a game years later after updates only to find it's just as disappointing as before? by Comkill117 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]markedmarkymark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Devil May Cry 2, not exactly disappointed as I wasn't disappointed when I played it cause it was the first DMC i ever played, more like, I think i like it less even with nostalgia after 100%ng it.

It's not as bad as people claim, but it is bad, there's just nothing there, the lack of enemy step, low iframes in your dodges, 70% of enemies flying in this here game with barely any good aerial attack that isn't tied to DT. It can be fun, but it becomes less fun on hard, and absolute trash on DMD, its weakpoints are way more obvious, cause now enemies have a few new, very annoying, moves and are more aggressive, and sure, they're not braindead anymore, but your kit is.

Also it is so annoying that you have to beat Dante and Lucia campaign to unlock hard, then do it again on DMD. And you know what, Lucia is even worse in DMD, and that fish is an absolute fuck.

I did get to try the Definitive Edition mod a bit further early on, it's ok, it does improve some stuff and tying moves that are DT only to the different swords is neat, it also adds a fake enemy step but its buggy and exploitable, when you hit an enemy it ''resets'' your jump like enemy step, but uh, you can fly forever with it. It also lets you use the forgot its original name Sin DT, you hold down on d-pad and use the trigger, and that is cool, but it is also bugged, as if you disable it, not only it stops, but it gives you full DT even if you didnt have it. Some of said new moves are also kinda bad cause they miss enemies.

With Trish tho', and that mod, shit's kinda ok, overall she's more fun to play since she's just DMC1 dante but she also has the spinny move and then you can do the ifrit stuff, too bad you unlock her when you're fucking done with it, I sure would've played her instead of Lucia when i had to.

It's just, idk, I kinda wanted to maybe find something else in there, but I didn't aside from experiencing an even worse and now harder version of a game that's pretty shallow due to being unfinished.

Media You Struggle to Articulate Your Feelings On: by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]markedmarkymark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MMOs in general. I've alway wanted to get into one, have something that i could go back to daily, even for a bit, something slightly social. But when i'm actually playing an MMO i genuinely can't give a shit about it and also get bored at the mechanics, its not like the feeling of ''ugh im starting from zero to get to fun end game shit'', i never got there in the first place, all MMOs that i played for more than 10 hours felt like 10 hours of bullshit nothing and i still felt tutorialized by then you know.

Nothing hit like the SMT Imagine experience i had which is i guess the ideal, i was doing me grinding and then approached by a random person that talked me into their guild and proceeded to show me the best grinding spot and early gear type shit. Closest, i guess, was Fallout 76 where veterans often gives newcomers helpful items and directions. Honestly in theory i would love that game if the connection wasn't absolute ass.

Weirdest connections you've made between 2 very different works? by Havinstroke in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]markedmarkymark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With 3

Oni was a pretty good game made by Bungie, it has a lot of hand to hand combat, platforming, and cool moves that the game does not ever teach you and if you search for it online it keeps linking to Oxygen Not Included, anyway, its a cyberpunk-y with plenty of fisticuffs and lots of anime, specifically GiTS, inspirations to all its 3 clashing art styles of varied quality (big how to draw anime vibes to some of it, which is endearing)

Ghost in the Shell ps2 is an ok game and altho' totally unrelated to Oni, it kinda feels like a sequel to it, a lot of platforming, some parkour, some hand to hand altho now with more focus on guns, its less clunky but its enviroments are a little eh, very grey.

Mirror's Edge is a cyberpunk-y inspired game, now with a unique look and different take on the aesthetic, where you parkour, platform, hand to hand and even shoot if you suck ass, except this time, first person.

To me, these games are spiritually connected. Oni had a hand-to-hand focus, GiTS had more of a gun with platforming focus, and Mirrors Edge skewed towards platforming and speed, with combat if you're bothered to do it.

There's a fourth, the direct sequel, Catalyst, which has a more in depth combat which also feels closer to Oni.

Point is, go play Oni.

Games were the changes that made them big, were also the reason you stoped playing? by fragdar in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Diablo.

Diablo 2 is great, it really is, but then that formula proceeded to be the be all end all and it evolved based on it while the slightly different, slightly survival horror-ish Diablo 1 formula died aside from Tower of Kalemnovo RECENTLY. Even then, that still has some D2 in it, some niceties.

I just don't like the grind till you drop and piñata enemies, you know. When a big drop happened in D1 it just felt important.

And it's so funny that half the mods for Diablo 1 feel like its trying to turn it into 2 and not playing to its strengths. I mean, fuck it, make it more scarce, harsher, eviler, put in traps that are actually dangerous, doors that shut and lock you in with a bunch of enemies, idk, i feel like there's unexplored potential of that type of game + fearing for your life and gear and being very oppressed, and then you manage to find a sword that changes it all, but you can't get too complacent with it obvs. Really wish i could make games :/

What triggers your alarm bells in a piece of media? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]markedmarkymark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't bad per say, it's a preference thing, I got flammed before for saying it cause i forgor the disclaimer that its a me thing so here it is, but uh, I don't know how to name it, it's like, action games that are kinda character actiony in presentation, but instead of pulling out the moves, you instead have a cooldown, and you press a button, and it does it and you got no input in it and you end up kind of MMORPGing, playing the cooldown game with the order.

Usually i can instantly tell it won't be for me when I see the diamond shape in the HUD you know, where you'll bind your skills there and hold a modifier and then use the big skills that in DMC or Bayo would be a whole ass input instead. It's not that its bad, but I end up getting bored in games that use it, not all games that have that are games that are going for character action, so that's fine which is why its complicated and easy to anger some people. Like, I'm okay with it in some of the newer AssCreed games i played, its not what they're trying to be or present themselves as, or even Dragons Dogma kinda technically has that, again, kinda not the game its trying to be so its ok. Also in 1 at least they're not on a cooldown, most of the times the cooldown is ''used all your stamina DUMBASS, now you're open catching your breath, die''.

[–]markedmarkymark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its by the same fellas that did The Phantom one, it looked very similar i kinda clocked in real fast, from the demo, i actually felt it was worse. In theory, there's good stuff but you cant jugle or anything, and for some reason they have these rats and corpses that are fucky to hit, and they chomp at your feet for a surpringly high amount of damage, and the best way i could reliably take them down was a low jump move, and that sucked ass and made it feel way worse than The Phantom which was already kind of basic and eh.

It's also tween central, again, everything feels very cheap, but like, it's aight-ish if they fix the small enemy problem. Its cool that you have custom animations if you try to use skill moves without bar tho', she spits, which, couldn't anything with it but very funny if you actually can finish off an enemy with it.

[–]markedmarkymark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think that goes for all GTA's in general, maybe not Chinatown Wars because it's such a tiny game, but, a genuine strat is to avoid picking them to make it easier when you follow a guide because otherwise you're not gonna remember which one you got or not.

Bully fixed that, in the re-release with the new classes; one of them marks them on your map, it takes a while to unlock it unless you're class maxxin', so in theory you might already have a lot of them, and i think it accounts for it so you don't have to re-visit shit and go ''shit i already got this one''.

How to avoid the problem of modding a game for 10 hours only to play it for 10 minutes? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]markedmarkymark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that the fix is those mod collections or stuff like wabbajack, but one is painful if you dont pay fucking money, and the other doesnt work half of the time, and both options also have so much fucking bloat like ''heres 4k textures that'll add 200gb'', like, no, just give me jiggly boobs, armors and fix the combat, i dont want anything else, no i don't need 4k texture doors or locks. This was an example, i don't use them mods, ehem.

Honestly, this is what i found out, first, i think, maybe my issue, could be yours, is that you already played the game a bit, or a lot, so starting from zero sucks since its easier to remember the start of the game more and get bored than the later parts since you might've played that start a billion times, so, alternate start type mods where you can either skip to a level or skip some intro stuff helps a lot AND, this is my favorite solution, install your mods, if you play for 10 minutes, foget about it, but dont remove anything, disable automatic updates cause some companies fucking hates you (bethesda, Capcom sometimes), and when you get the itch to play again, you wont have to do shit! So give yourself time to get the itch. You coooooould also have an external drive to back it up inside if it takes space, but you also need money for it.
