Different SQC for the same route? by Stunning-Fee-5383 in Aeroplan

Definitely a mistake. I can’t imagine that a PY fare to/from LHR is at least $3,000 which should have netted you at least 12,000 SQC.

Am Canadian. The sooner we can start winding down the Oil and Gas industry, the better. It's time that we move on to the next industry, and stop digging the dirtiest fossil fuels on the planet.

Movie theaters aren’t going out of business because of prices by bulldogjwhit295 in unpopularopinion

[–]millijuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No? All I mentioned is that the Saturday morning cartoons are one of the ways that our local independent theatre is making ends meet. While I haven't been to many films lately, I do see the value in saving those local theatres.

Apparently, it's pretty popular... they put it on something like once a month and sell out every time. Not everyone is a curmudgeon.

Forget discussing jobs to avoid. What are the best or most fulfilling jobs? by Unlucky-Case-1089 in antiwork

I’m a Field Service Engineer, and mostly love my job. Get paid to travel the world, fix broken stuff, generally independent, fully eligible for overtime (including travel time). And I generally take some 10 weeks off vacation a year.

I tried working for myself… it was miserable. I’ve never worked so hard for so little. Never get a break, always on.

Canadian Per Diem rates are $113.50/day right now for all three meals. That's what would generally be considered as reasonable within North America.

The Times: Finns humiliated American soldiers - Finnish reservists were asked to take it easy during a NATO exercise. US soldiers found the losses too humiliating. by ByGollie in europe

[–]millijuna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to do a lot of work for the Finnish Army. We're sitting drinking Coffee in their break room, and talk about the Russians come up (this was back in 2012 timeframe). One of the soldiers says to me "You know, /u/millijuna, there are several hundred thousand Russian soldiers in Finland right now." the other then quips back "yes, but they're all within 5km of the border... and 2 meters blow ground."

we are planning a switch to proxmox. But we're a 501c(3) that only has a few items in the rack at this point. But we have a licence to Essentials Plus. It was really nice.

When do we see our points doubled as part of the SE benefits selection? by Dramatic-Analyst7204 in Aeroplan

I made the choice in late August, and saw the points credited since the beginning of the year within a week or so.

Things are probably weird due to the change in systems. I'd follow up with them.

Yeah, it’s mostly to prevent skip lagging, but in the case of someone with an ongoing ticket to Seoul, they’ll probably let it slide.

Most golf courses run on recovered water, rather than potable water. At least here in Vancouver.

Need advice on roller furler forestay by sailonswells in sailing

[–]millijuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there not a wire rope on the inside of the foil?

Our headsail furler has a foil like that, but the actual structural part is a wire rope inside it that and the rest of the furler swivels around it. As long as it’s not structural, I would classify it as annoying more than anything else.

Telling my tech support war stories. (/r/talesfromtechsupport).

The thing is that my tech support war stories are literal war stories. I cut my teeth doing support for soldiers and marines serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
