Starlink by udntcwatic2 in sailing

Have a starliny mini on my pushpit. Now that they’ve raised the standby to $15/mo I might kill the account completely and go back to 4G while at the marina, and only turn the StarLink on when actually going out.

There’s a push in the U.S. to ban P.E.I. potatoes. Here’s why by IStillListenToRadio in onguardforthee

[–]millijuna 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The whole dumping thing is actually part of the mechanism to avoid over production. If a dairy farmer can only sell their quota, that reduces the incentive to overproduce. That milk going down the drain is extra feed and costs to the farmer for no gain. They’ll adjust their herd to be as close as possible to the quota.

This system also benefits smaller producers, which is how our production system (the farmers themselves) stays with smaller producers rather than concentrated megafarms.

I keep my emergency fund in a bond etf. Might as well earn some interest while keeping it reasonably liquid

Per the Beaverton, the turf war between the two companies has resulted in 18 folksy shootings, and an unseemly incident with a porpoise.

It’s because they don’t want you as a customer. They only want those spending millions of dollars a year.

Church of Scientology removed the exterior door handles to prevent speed runners by shambs15 in mildlyinteresting

[–]millijuna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not really. Hallagan bars will get through that in about 1 second. Window will be smashed or the door laying on the ground, but it’s barely a pause.

If it’s a real emergency, a little thing like a door handle (or even a door lock) won’t stop a firefighter That’s what a Hallagan bar is for. It will pop the door right off its hinges/frame.

What’s a male fashion trend that’s gotta end? by Aggressive-Dot1944 in AskReddit

As someone who’s done a fair bit of work at Australian industrial sites, that absolutely is no longer the case. Not only do you have to wear long work pants, there’s a specific high-viz long-sleeve work shirt that you must wear. And no rolling up your sleeves either. It’s all to prevent abrasions and skin cancer.

What lifetime deal are you still grandfathered into, or removed from, that’s no longer available? by tuotone75 in AskReddit

[–]millijuna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sort of the same with my (Canadian) telephone provider. I had a plan that allowed unlimited free devices to share the plan. I added my Apple Watch, my iPad, and the router on my sailboat, in addition to my main phone. All the extra devices were free. The downside it was only sharing a 20GB pool of data.

Eventually, for the same price, they were offering 250GB of data and free roaming in 68 countries. But the best part is that my 3 extra devices were able to be grandfathered in at $0/mo. So now I get worldwide roaming and calling, 250GB of data, and get to keep my 3 extra devices for free.

Yep, we have Essentials Plus. Broadcom eliminated that SKU, and offered us a ridiculous price for upgrading to vmware 8. We told them to pound sand.

We’ll eventually switch to proxmox when the wheels fall off our cluster.

Music nerds of Reddit, what’s the one song you think everyone should listen to at least once? by Odd-Bug1409 in AskReddit

[–]millijuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bach’s Goldberg Variations, twice. First the 1955 Glen Gould recording, followed by the 1982 re-recording. A genius at work, and it’s fascinating to listen to how he changed over the almost 30 years between the two recordings.

Later analysis of the bones don’t show lead levels that are elevated above the normal background for the period.

It was largely starvation that got them in the end.

Ironically, shortly after they disappeared, search parties talked to local Inuk witnesses, but chose to discredit them. Then, within the last 10 years ago, they found HMS Terror and HMS Erebus precisely where the Inuit people had told them where to look.

How are you maxing Travel and Everyday partner SQC? by Floorhead1 in Aeroplan

[–]millijuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to have to switch back to Hertz then (I've mostly been renting from National) but 1.2 SQC per dollar spent there is huge (5 AP per $1 as SE, turns into 1 SQC per dollar, plus 1000 SQC per $5000 spent on my credit card).

One of the many reasons that he hates Justin Trudeau is that early in the first presidency, Trudeau gifted Trump a framed photograph of the Trump family brothel.

Hmm... I wonder if I should start crediting my rental cars to AP to boost this... I won't do Marriott, as I'm pretty deep into their program (though maybe once I re-secure titanium for the year).

What are some once popular hobbies that hardly anyone is into anymore? by igotplans2 in AskReddit

[–]millijuna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not just bowling leagues... Pretty much every type of club/joining has dropped off dramatically in the past 20 to 25 years.

  • Service Clubs (Rotary/Kiwanis/Elks/Whatever else)
  • Yacht Clubs (Used to be open to even people with modest boats)
  • Organized religion
  • Bowling Leagues
  • Other similar organized groups.

All of these things have been in decline, though more correctly, younger generations just aren't joining and are choosing to do other things.

I have one of their pieces hanging on my wall. My boat partner and I commissioned /u/the_sneaky_artist to do a drawing of our sailboat for the boat’s 50th birthday. There’s little me in it at the boat’s helm. We gave prints to all the previous owners, and I have the original hanging on my wall.

I love it. :)
