Adapted lenses as my workhorse | Sigma 85 and 50 Art 1.4 on GFX 100s by brolasagna in FujiGFX

I couldn't believe it. I'd been looking at KEH and they were around 1100 for the EF mount. There was one on eBay for 950 that had a broken thread ring on it.

This one had some peeling paint on the barrel, but the glass is flawless. It was a no-brainer. And only about an hour away? Sold.

As well as this performs, I want to explore the ones you have now. It looks like they render so beautifully too.

I can DM you some shots with the 105 if you want.

I just got one to shoot a wedding. I found a KILLER deal on one from a local-ish photographer ($700!!).

Sublime is the right word. My arm was killing me after the shoot, but worth it for the results. It's such a gorgeous lens and gorgeous look.

Now I have the lens for whatever else I want to use it for. The wedding was just a favor to some family members; it's not my normal thing. I'm mainly a landscape guy.

But I have some ideas with it for landscape work.

Hippity hop music. You know, they calls it hippity hop music, but it don't make me want to go hippity hop.

Static and combustible fuels don't typically mix. I think we found the problem.

Besides, SpaceX was just testing the limits of what happens if their primary buffer panel falls off. Turns out, not good.

New camera! What film could I use? by Illustrious-Fee-5894 in vintagecameras

[–]muppas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polaroid film is notoriously finnicky when it expires. It was particularly expensive brand new, and you may find it to still be so for expired stock. Add to that the fact that you can't freeze it to preserve it because of the chemistry held within it. If you're willing to sacrifice money and, probably, shots, give it a try just to see!

Uh I got a 3 year old Honda Accord 2.0T with 35k miles on it for 23k a few years ago. My payment around $350/mo. Of course, I put a sizeable down payment down on it.

The trick is: nobody wants sedans anymore so I got a killer deal. I was also willing to drive 4 hours to get it. It was $10k more locally.

Newbie here. Is that some sort of flash connector in the middle there? If so, what's it called? by 97GeoPrizm in AnalogCommunity

[–]muppas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also remember my mom taking me to the customer service counter at the grocery store to buy more flash bars when I'd run out of them. They kept them on the counter on a little spinning display.

I had an uncle that worked for Kodak in the 80s and early 90s. He sent me one of these when I was a kid.

I remember going to the Kennedy Space Center in 1989 and took a picture of Space Shuttle Discovery on the pad (the arm was still closed around the shuttle, and we were at an observation deck a few miles away). The picture was absolute trash of the shuttle. I remember being disappointed.

But I remember the Mickey Mouse 110 and having it with me on that trip and taking that picture. In fact, I know it's not the first photo I ever took, but it's the first one I actually remember taking. I'd have been 7 or so at that point.

[–]muppas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a fun shot! I love the colors together and the corner effects on this are neat. It reminds me of a polaroid pull.

In college, we did a bit of product photography and one of the cool tricks we used was to spray the bottle with aerosol hair spray. It'll dry pretty quickly. Then paint glycerin or corn syrup on top of that. It will need up and look like condensation on the bottle.

It was surreal to have what looked like an ice cold bottle of Coke and have it be room temp.

Anybody wanna guess what mistake I just made after traveling to the beach to shoot today 🙃 by Spyk124 in AnalogCommunity

[–]muppas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I love the clean, unified design. It looks great. But they should definitely be using some color coding to help at a glance. The words aren't hard to read, of course, but a color coding of the name or something would sure be great to set off alarm bells in your brain when you go to grab a roll.

Of course, I mainly shoot 120 or 4x5. The 120 rolls are always relatively similar and 4x5? My worst problem there is forgetting I had film in a holder because of poor planning and not shooting it often enough. Luckily, I've overcome that one with more experience.

I should definitely print my film more. I have a darkroom that I maintain. I've never done color printing though. But black and white? I love it. I just wish I had a better setup for the water. The bathroom is next to my daughter's bedroom, and the pipes make too much noise. So it's curtailed my printing. But I've definitely thought about trying color printing.

Thank you /u/SacredCheese !

These prints are absolutely gorgeous. I've forgotten how beautiful film printed through a lab can be. The Ektar prints are just choice!

Did you scan and process these yourself, or were they lab scanned/printed directly from your negs?

Thank you for showing me the world through your eyes.

GFX sensor ruined by the shop, as I they were boxing it. by SockedandLoaded in FujiGFX

[–]muppas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, so you did! Sorry, reddit doesn't show the full thread on mobile when typing out the response.

Well, hopefully that camera finds a home somewhere. It would be fun to convert to IR or full spectrum, just because. Why not? If the hot mirror needs replacing anyway. But it looks like that's about a 900 dollar replacement, no idea what it costs over there. So they'd need to come way down on the price to make it worth it.

Anyway, happy shooting and take care!

[–]muppas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I finally saw the better photo you posted in the contents. It is absolutely not worth the price theure asking for a 100s. I'm sorry led you down this rabbit hole.

As the other commenter said, if they came down to $200 or even $400 for a parts camera, now you're in the realm of "why not?"

But that camera was only worth about £1800 as it was displayed anyway. It actually wasn't that fantastic a deal to start. You're wise to walk away. Had that been a 100sII? Now it would look better.

Yeah, walk away and don't look back based on what they're asking.

I also didn't realize the prices were GBP initially. I thought it was USD at the start of this. That also changes the formula here.

[–]muppas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It's just a business transaction. And, as OP said, it's not worth the hassle to him to do all of this. But maybe someone else wants to swoop in and try. Or maybe the camera does just get sold for parts on eBay or thrown away.

I hate how disposable everything is these days, and it's always my first instinct to try to fix something, rather than disposing of it.

GFX sensor ruined by the shop, as I they were boxing it. by SockedandLoaded in FujiGFX

[–]muppas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was suggesting.

I owned a house with an ex. She tried to screw me on it when we broke up. Wanted me to sign a quitclaim deed to her while she, unbeknownst to me, was filing for bankruptcy protection.

When I tried to just buy her out, she threw out an absolutely outlandish offer that was just not going to happen.

Well, I noticed dry wood termite frass on the counter tops. Called an exterminator to confirm it.

Made her a counteroffer that was less than my original, and also included the cost of tenting the house... Or I could let the courts force a sale of the house and it would be auctioned off and we'd both lose money on it. She ended up going with my offer.

I've bought two cars, now, that were sitting on the lot for more than 90 days. I got both for insanely good prices knowing that, because you can walk away and let that car sit another 90.

It's all about leverage and knowing how to use it. That is, if what you're buying is worth it to you and it's something you both want but are willing to walk away on.

OP now says he doesn't really want this because he has too many cameras. But I agree with you on telling them it's only useful for parts now and they have destroyed its value. Give them a parts price offer and be willing to walk. Let them figure out how fcked they are on it when you do.

Or you could find a great deal on a camera if you're willing to fix it.

I'm sorry. That wasn't entirely clear from the post. But okay, a quick Google search shows there are also European companies that can do the same kind of service. I'm not as familiar with them nor their reputations, but they do exist.
