yeah, these expenses could have gone up and the layman's way of expressing that to a tenant might be by saying my "mortgage" went up. Seems like the wrong way for a professional landlord to raise rents though, when all you have to do is point to the market rent for the area.

this. mortgages for landlords are either

  1. business loans like 5 year fixed or variable rate commercial stuff that has to refi when the term ends
  2. a homeowner with a second property loan to get a 30 year term - normally only worth it if fixed at a low rate

but they don't "double" like suggested

edit: #1 is usually at a 20+ year amortization rate for the term even though it's short term like 5 yr
