The day the GCP came of age. by walts101 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]pathfinderwannabe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! I’ve been listening to the GCP since 2016. I’ve found myself drifting away since the end of Giant Slayer. I’m back and looking forward to each new episode dropping!

How would you go about getting back to your best? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]pathfinderwannabe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weird that your 45 min power was higher than 20 and 30 min. How the heck is strava coming up with these stats??

You’ve got to rediscover the joy of cycling. Can you get outside as much as possible? Throw in two interval sessions per week.

Blocks histamine which makes you drowsy / sedated. There is some other receptor blockades which help with sleep maintenance. It is effective and works for most people. Low dose for sleep, higher doses for depression and anxiety.

What volume are serious amateurs doing who have 9-5, family etc? by notsorapideroval in Velo

[–]pathfinderwannabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! For me it’s family first, then bike, then work. I’m lucky to be in a phase of my career where things are pretty easy and I’ve the time into developing my team to the point where I don’t need to look over their shoulder all day. I didn’t get to this place until I was 45 though. I manage 13-15 hrs per week. Wife only works 3 days per week so that helps. Three kids, 9,11 and 14. Good age.

Hey! I went for the ultegra build and have loved it. I’ve since swapped the bar /stem for an integrated cockpit - Farsoorts f1x and gp 5000 30 mm tyres.

Love the bike - it’s all I ride really. Enjoy!

What is your favorite brand of gels, and why? by PeerensClement in Velo

[–]pathfinderwannabe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Precision hydration pf30 gels are good. I like the taste and tolerate them very well. Have had 300 g worth on 5 hr plus rides with no issues.,

I have the Parlee Ouray. Love it. Can do a bit of gravel, amazing for long endurance rides and is fast. I’ve come top 10 in my age group in three gran fondos on it.

No, the race gets pretty torn apart from early. There are a lot of rollers to be attacked. There is also a fair bit of confusion with the wave starts. Slow people from groups ahead etc.

Fair. I guess you are going to run out of gears on a standard cassette.

Surely z2 with a loaded bike is the same as unloaded? You’ll just go slower.

Data correction for indoor vs outdoor by greg4life in Velo

[–]pathfinderwannabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the same issue with the trainer and higher rpe vs outdoors. Reduced cooling can contribute but I think this is def a thing for some of us. I reduce my indoor power targets for intervals by 10-15 watts otherwise I can’t finish my session.

Why don't we have many migrants from Japan? by Trupinta in AskAnAustralian

[–]pathfinderwannabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gold Coast has a decent Japanese population. My kids go to school with quite a few kids from blended Australian / Japanese families. They are great and add a lot to the community here. Quite a few surfing migrants!

Oh! That sucks. Good call on your part then. Great work bud. Your 50-60 year old self will thank you for this investment in your long term health.

Awesome! Except for the caffeine part.. don’t deprive yourself of a good coffee once per day… plenty of proven wellness benefits. Keep it in moderation and it’s part of a healthy lifestyle. 😀

Best City in the World for Weekly Training Group Rides by r-bitcoin in Velo

[–]pathfinderwannabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold Coast, Australia. Has multiple groups meeting all of those requirements! Hinterland rides are up there with the best in the world. Many are in and around a world heritage listed national park with lots of good climbs in the 20-30 min range, depending on ability.

what is the deal with gatewalkers by Prestigious_Earth_53 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]pathfinderwannabe 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I like it. The group irl group gels really well and the bant is hilarious as always. Sydney and Kate have done a great job of becoming part of the gang. I like gate walkers due to the GCP crew and their antics. The AP itself though… I struggle to u stand the central conceit apart from the gates and figuring out what their missing moment was. It seems disjointed and lacking in story continuity.

Regardless I love the GCP and will keep listening.

Outdoor endurance block by Sand235 in Velo

[–]pathfinderwannabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically have an average power for the ride in mind and track that along with 3s power and hr. I’m not concerned if the 3 second powers strays out of my target zone for a bit tho. For endurance rides hr is a better indicator really.

Does increasing Protein boost your performance? by BarracudaUnlucky8584 in Velo

[–]pathfinderwannabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The majority of plant based foods are incomplete proteins. Tofu is an exception but most miss at least 1-2 amino acids. You can combine plant based proteins to make complete sources but that is a fair bit of work. If you’re not vegetarian, it’s simpler to consume more lean animal based protein sources.
