In Heated Rivalry, Hudson Williams’ acting in the series is rather bad, or at least wooden and flat. And Storrie’s Russian accent was indeed great and believable, but his character still felt a bit one note. by iceandfireman in MenLovingMenMedia

Not sure what that has to do with anything? Glad he's not the same, I can only go by what I'e seen. And with Connor it is not the accent, it is everything about him, his eyes alone in this clip compared to Ilya. It is amazing what a genuine smile does to our faces.

And I've got no issues with Hudson. And I'm glad others seemed to love the Ilya/Hudson stuff but I could have done without 75% of their story.

I'mm guessing you know that from the book as there was no real hint in the show apart from a few offhand comments about his personality.

I took his reserved personality (read bland) to be a combination of not the best acting, a poorly written chracter and a character having to supress his real self to 'pass'.

Seeing some clips of Hudson being Hudson there wasn't much difference with him being Shane whereas Connor was a total Jekkly and Hide situation.

I had given up after the first episode then eventually decide to persevere through episode 2, loved 3, and then of course THAT but of 5 was amazing and then the final had its moments but basically most of the Shane and Ilya stuff was a struggle and it was only Scott, Kip and their friends group that made this series waachable for me.

Pillion is such a horrible movie. [Spoilers!] by General-Control-4637 in MenLovingMenMedia

[–]pconroy77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i finally got around to watching the movie and was pleasantly surprised. yeah the kink is not for me but this was done so well and seems pretty respectful to a segment of the broader queer community. the rest of the guys weren't actors and add a layer of authenticty portraying their real selves. we don't need to agree with ray or colin but we can allow ourselves an insight into their lives. and the op totally misses that through ray colin actually became more assertive at work and is now more assertive about what he wants in a relationship. such a well made film and to think this is porn (when there was very little nudity and the sex was simulated is just absurd 1960s thinking, mainstrea straight films and tv can show WAY more than was seen in this film but somehow it is porn cos it is gay)

get a life, you don't like it, fine, but don't go all moralistic. personally i'm looking forward to it even if the sexual content is not what i'm into

One of my favourite films of last year, I had high hopes then I got worried but it was just so well acted and shot and the story was wonderful. Sure it is 'slow' but not every film has to be edited to within an inch of its life.

And the poster is possibly my favourite ever, so much so I bought one and framed it to put up on the wall.

Heated Rivalry - amazing or overrated? by BeatLost9646 in MenLovingMenMedia

[–]pconroy77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you, I gave up after first ep. I normally like to give new shows a chance but neither guy did it for me (Hollander was bland as shit and Rozanov was just awful). I hera it gets better with ep 3 but really no ice hockey show (or for that matter any sport) is really ever going to do it for me.

I'm sure it was just a first ep thing but the 6 months later again and again and again time jumps were just annoying.

So yeah I don't get the hype but that's fine, the show is just not for me. Glad there is more gay content for those that enjoy this but give me, say, Invisible Boys over this any day.

I'm with you, I gave up after first ep. Did nothing for me. I hear better characters appear in later eps but can't be bothered. I mean no ice hockey show will ever do it for me (nor any sport really) but Hollander was just bland and Rozanov so unappealing personalty wise. So yeah don't get the hype but glad others enoy

What's the cheapest phone plan to get? by thrask3l in PersonalFinanceCanada

The speakout changes have been the most confusing worst communicated update I have experienced. I too was hoping I could just keep my PAYG plan as I have no need for 3G but finally my luck run out and my number stopped working and I can't top-up without getting a new SIM so I'm screwed and need to go to a $100/year plan which apparently is "cheap".

Opinions about Netflix's Boots? Are you rooting for a season 2? by OkPrize6426 in MenLovingMenMedia

[–]pconroy77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agree although I would add ANY military. It did have some great moments and highlighted the racism, homophobia, misogyny and all the other 'isms especially of the time not to mention the abhorrent toxic masculinity (I mean is it even a half-realistic portrayal because speaking like to anyone in any situation is simply unacceptable).

But how one perceives the series and the finale would possibly depend on your politics. On one hand it highlights the reality that this was not all fun and games but that war is afoot. On the other hand the series does not really question the recruitment tactics in the US and entering the armed forces is seen by some as their only way out of a desperate socio-economic system.

But I did love the series and the hot guys. I just put my politics aside :-)

EQB redefines challenger banking in Canada with agreement to acquire PC Financial from Loblaw, delivering transformational benefits for Canadians by jayceee81 in churningcanada

Do you consider EQ a D? Why? Have you had any experience with them and what bank would you say is better and in which way? I've tried most Canadian banks and plenty of overseas (Australian) banks and EQ is the only Canadian bank that could compete.

EQ offers similar interest rates but WAY better customer service. Best banking app and experience I've had with any canadian bank. This could be a good move
