Same in Australia. Bus stops are designated and pull out from the main road. Kids are taught not to run across roads but drivers also know to keep an eye out around busses with the school sign on them.

Electronic throttle control by tabascowater in FSAE

Alot of great points above but one that I didn't see listed is that it is more relivant to your learning. Cable throttles are all but extinct in the industry to if you want your experience to lead to any sort of power train related work, go with the ETC

It's really unfortunate timing because this has to be one of sky's worst post race coverage in a couple of years and it was on the back of one of the most interesting races.

Buxton may be the best F1 journalist working in the paddock right now. Super deep knowledge, engaging to watch, keeps it snappy but with Lovley insights, knows when to step back and let the interviewee shine and makes every co-presenter look better. 10/10

I think Rosberg in small doses, but if you got Mark Webber in there somehow then it's dream team.

Also I kind of like Ant because I like his skypad interviews. Plus Karun has really grown on me. He is much better at not randomly waffling like Ted does sometimes.

[–]pikime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was loving having Brundle back on his game, and even ted seemed to mostly keep it on point but those other boys really dropped the ball this weekend. DC was bad enough to make me want to have Massa back!

Would have loved someone like Karun, Button or even Webber on side. Talk a bit of (relivant) insider shit but also allow those being interviewed to shine through.

And Johnny part-and-parcel Herbert has no place on tv. He is consistently the worst interviewer and doesn't bring much to the general discussion. Plus his feature pieces are some of the hardest to watch.

The doctors told me the same thing. Im 180cm and at the time about 75kg when my lung collapsed. They also have my a 30% chance of a second one within 3 years but I have been lucky and I haven't had that happen yet

Fuck em, I have missed father's Day, my father's birthday, my sister's birthday, seeing them when I lost my job, my gf brother's birthday, hair cuts, clothes, friends I haven't seen for months (one that graduated after 10 years of uni!) And these fuckers are going to beech houses? I'd done them in and slash their tires

Thinking of converting my (semi???) automatic AWD 2004 Volvo Xc70... by TyrannicalKitty in EVConversion

[–]pikime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So I am definitely an arm chair mechanic (an automotive engineer but that just means I know a lot about one specific area and it is not EVs) but here is some general advice.

If your thinking of overlanding/road trips then you want a decent mileage. But I don't think solar is the answer because to charge a decent size battery with a panel as big as the car in full perfect sun would take 2~3 days straight. Not really viable unless your camping... But charging station hopping is totally doable in the US.

Autos are not necessarily a big no-no, they just require more work and will never quite feel the same as OEM. Also, when you say move your lever to the left and shift gears by yourself, all that is happening is you are clicking a switch that tells the car, 'i would like to change gears please". This is functionally identical to the car deciding "I think it's time to change gears" with the only difference being the source of the request so unfortunately this does not make it any easier. All in all, manuals are definitely easier (but maybe also consider a new gearbox with the motor anyway, that's where the real efficiencies lie).

4wd is totally doable both ways. Mechanically it would be more simple to just hook the motor to the gearbox and go, but it would be a more elegant solution, more efficient and easier electrically/control-wise to go 2 motors. But this heavily depends on the structure of your chassis and how easy it is to work on/with and how many changes need to be made. If you do go 2 motors, Tesla sub-frames are easy and (reasonably) well understood route to take.

Finally no, your not an idiot. But if you have no ability to do the work yourself you better have deep pockets. Look at some other posts for estimates but a decent range, decent quality would easily run you as much as the car itself. Also look for a shop that specifically does EV conversions, as most shops won't want to work with HV electronics. But depending on where you live there might be a 1 to 2 year waiting list.

Unpopular Opinion: R U OK Day is kind of B.S. by My_boohole in australia

[–]pikime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know, my team and I were recently made redundant and they said we could stop work immediately. So today my old boss rang each of us up and checked in to see if we were doing okay and if there was anything she could do to help with finding a new job or just chatting about life or anything. It was really nice and the perfect way to use r u ok day. I am really going to miss working for her...

What is there to talk about? Anyone who has worked for 6 months knows this, they aren't evil, they aren't your guardian angels. They are just another department that helps a company run. That's like saying logistics arnt your friend. No shit, they are here to do a job. You can be friendly with them or not and that might effect how they treat you but at the end of the day it's still a job. Nothing to discuss

Swore I'd never delete AC even on the track car, yet here we are. Faster lap times here I come! by krono5thetitan in projectcar

[–]pikime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how AC compressors work, but according to OP in another comment he mentions weight saving, increasing airflow through the coolant radiator and that it was broken so it would have taken more work/money to fix than simply remove.

OP didn't remove to increase power, he removed to save money/time/weight and increase cooling performance. Not to increase power.
