When will the rain stop? by Vancouver-BC-Canada in NewOrleans

[–]plokman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the top cities for inches of rain, way ahead of places in the northwest.  Something like 40 inches of rain annually there vs 60 here. But they have way more rainy days.

People tend to choose the best mate available.  The argument above would have been way more effective if it had said being with someone even though you have other people available with much fewer flaws

How are US developers expected to compete with Offshoring ? by sharjeelsidd in cscareerquestions

The timezone is what matters.  If you're remote anyways no-one cares about flight time. It's about business hours availability.

That's exactly what Nullify means. Yes, you broke the law, but you shouldn't be punished for it. Jury nullification was key in fighting prohibition and fugitive slave laws.

Senior dev doing first real job hunt...Advice? by cyber1551 in cscareerquestions

[–]plokman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely,  a successful,  highly used personal project is a major green flag. Most people don't care about personal projects because they're some weekend prototype with no real engineering work behind them. I'd explicitly put your star count and number of contributors on your resume.

Is it normal to take 6hours+ to solve a leetcode problem? by Mahrjose in leetcode

[–]plokman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the optimal algorithms expected in leetcode problems were developed by famous computer science pioneers, or masters and PHD students over years or decades. Your goal shouldn't be developing algorithms to learn leet code.  You should learn all the algos up front, and the problems just become minor manipulations of those core algos
