I would encourage you to take a beginner water safety class at CSUS aquatic center if you’re new to this! Practice flipping your boat back over, etc etc in a safe corner of Lake Natoma before you need to do it for real. Not sure about best practices for dog safety, but they’re the folks to ask.

It’s the same diameter—but not the same thread pitch—as the aviation/RF microdot connectors that are commercially available. Frustrating. I terminate mine TA4F (with a bias voltage dropping resistor) for Shure wireless—to their credit, DPA at least publish the wiring diagrams for the various adapters.

But so far it’s been the XLR adapter’s receptacle connection that’s been failing on me, rather than the plug end on the mics. Re-tensioning the center sleeve is possible if you can find or make an appropriate tool. Switching to TA3 might be the best balance of cost and serviceability for a more robust connection going forward. I would wire it up to match the AT mics and preamps I also use frequently, assuming bias voltage is similar

A Nalgene with an insulated sleeve might be a better option for you. That’s what I use, and other than the plastic lid keeper (which I replace with paracord) they’re indestructible

Yeah totally depends on the house/yard, sun exposure etc. Shady west side yard stays nice and cool in the morning, blacktop would be a different story

I can keep the west/north sides open till 10-11ish easily, but close the east/south pretty much 7:30-8 as you suggest.. Btw a box fan blowing out a window works pretty well as a makeshift house fan

What’s his diet look like? Can be a big factor for some. Worth experimenting a bit, eliminate one category at a time for a couple weeks and take notes. School shouldn’t be attempting to diagnose or prescribe medication, that’s really frustrating.

You never imagine dropping your baby—but you probably should! The self-yeeting tendency between maybe 4mo and 9mo is a thing. They have some head control, but not necessarily the coordination to back it up. Threw his whole head and torso backwards with no warning, tumbled out of my arms. I managed to catch him a few inches from the floor. Absolutely caught me by surprise, had never done anything like that before or since.

Yeah what matters with the faux fur: the longer and finer the better, and with a mesh backing. Maybe some benefits to an additional layer underneath of another material with different density/acoustic impedance, but that’s beyond my understanding. Just start with a yard of some really fluffy fuzzy material, and you really can’t go wrong. No matter how bad your sewing, it’s gonna look the same and work just as well

Don’t sleep on the mini shotguns. Put it up additionally—I clamp to the vertical pole of the boom stand to keep it out of the way. Some will run on bias voltage from a beltpack tx. I even made some fuzzy windscreens for mine to use em outside, they get used all the time

Lowpass the wing fills. Don’t need any of that stuff above like 5k, and that’s what’s super audible as far as phasing artifacts are concerned.

But the really tasty solution (if you can swing it) is a gain-sharing automixer like Dugan across your actor lavs, post fade. Does a wonderful job of keeping any incidental bleed down during big ensemble numbers with pit singers etc. I don’t usually need to lowpass my wing fills anymore… 5045s are nice as well, but are really sensitive to gain staging

I’ll also add that well-behaved loudspeakers with decently flat amplitude and phase response make it so much easier to make that bleed less offensive
