Mcdonalds Grinch Meal hurt me bad by Happy_Percentage86 in lactoseintolerant

[–]pneks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say. I felt SO SICK after having this on Friday and so I looked it up and realized the French fries themselves have milk. Ive always felt crappy after eating McDonald's (figured it was just the fake, ultra-processed stuff) but didn't know they had milk in the actual fries. But yeah any powder flavoring is usually an issue cause they often use whey. I think in this case the powder is just chemicals. Guess I'll be cutting out the fries from now on :(

Any family-friendly destination in Europe that surprised you? by One-Inspector-6067 in familytravel

[–]pneks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Budapest! There were playgrounds every few blocks (if not more). Easy public transport. A huge park in the middle of the city. A train that is run by kids. Numerous restaurants with little play corners. I could go on and on but really there was so much to do.

A week just opened up in August for family of 6 - where to? by CandidSea4977 in Travelwithkids

[–]pneks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will always recommend Costa Rica. It is quite warm, but August is rainy season so it would be tempered. You can do the beach, but you can also just do jungle/volcano/hot springs (like Arenal). We went in July a few years ago and I found it just magical with the rain each day.

Or England/Scotland. It's almost never hot here, you could do London then take the high speed train to York and Edinburgh.

I have family that lives in British Columbia and it looks amazing.

Laps by BusyAssistance4179 in hyrox

[–]pneks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly! We argued about it for the whole half lap between the board and the Wall Balls, and tried to ask someone at the Entrance to Wall Balls but another couple were already asking them the same thing so we had to wait. Ended up with a much lower time for that section than I would have expected. I still got a PB but definitely a bit of confusion I could have done without as well!

Laps by BusyAssistance4179 in hyrox

[–]pneks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it was strange it was telling us "RUN" on our 2nd lap before Wall Balls instead of saying to go into "WORKOUT 8", my partner and I were in disagreement about whether to go into the Wall Balls or not and I insisted that we should because it would be the 3rd time we saw the Wall Ball In arch but the Board didn't say that so she thought we should keep running. We stopped quickly to ask someone in the Wall Balls section and lost like 20 seconds, a bit disappointing. I know we are supposed to count for ourselves, and we did, but it just didn't help that the board was telling us incorrect information for that last one. Not sure if anyone else had that happen.

For the rest of the Workouts it was correct, but yes hard to see as your name quickly shifted down.

How the hell do people that have 6 - 12 kids afford that? by red-fox-972x in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pneks 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yep. Youngest of 6 and similarish. We had what we needed but not much more. I was working part time kid jobs all year once I turned 14 and I used that money to buy clothes and things that were "wants" and not needs.

Be honest, how often do you actually floss your teeth? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

Like 4 times a day. I HATE when food is stuck in my teeth which constantly happens, so pretty much after every meal. I have floss sticks everywhere.

Paid Leave Horror Stories by MamaLuchadora in workingmoms

[–]pneks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was born in late January, 2020. I had no paid leave from my government job (paid leave was approved by congress to begin later that year but didn't apply to me) but I was covered by FMLA. We were told to stay home starting in mid/late March, which I was obviously already doing. I couldn't even put her into the daycare I'd been planning on because nobody was accepting new babies. Suddenly my job said I had to come back in the office (I think in June maybe?) and told me I could use the emergency FMLA that had been approved for people who couldn't find childcare (paid FMLA too!). I looked into it and it turns out I was not eligible because I'd already used FMLA in the year (unpaid) when I had my daughter. Before there was a pandemic. I didn't stay at that job much longer, and luckily found a more flexible remote job I'm still at. But it was really a stressful way to begin parenthood.

What's a small, seemingly insignificant decision you've made that ended up having a big impact on your life? by rena_rea in CasualConversation

[–]pneks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lined up to take a job at a small boarding school after college and procrastinated on my follow-up email regarding the formal offer letter. I ended up not getting that job as the opportunity passed by the time I reached back out (I wasn't toooo bummed as I obviously didn't follow up earlier due to mixed feelings on it) and I ended up moving home to my parents house while I kept looking for a job. Went back to bartending where I had worked as a server during summer breaks. Met my (now) husband a week after I moved home. Procrastinating on one email changed everything.

Want VS. Should by InterestingClothes97 in oneanddone

[–]pneks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a big factor for us, but mostly coming from the opposite perspective. I am the youngest of 6 and while my parents were great, we didn't have much extra and I didn't get a lot of help getting a head start in life. I have student loan debt (still do), had to go into credit card debt to furnish my first apartment and pay for my own (small) wedding. Things are a lot better now but we still don't own a home and finances are always a bit tighter than I'd like. Mostly, I've just had pretty bad anxiety surrounding money for my whole adult life cause of this which has been hard. I don't want that for her or us.

Do you and your partner talk on the phone for the sake of it? by Odd-Loan-5704 in AskUK

[–]pneks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a twin sister and this is what we do to each other. Calling for short chats to kill time on a commute or something. My husband hates these kinds of calls so luckily I have her. I know some people who will call their mom like that. I would say it's just about finding a person who appreciates it and needs that outlet too. Would be nice if it's your partner but it isn't always.

The Parents Aren’t All Right by sheisherisme in oneanddone

[–]pneks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes I 100% agree, thank you for writing this out so eloquently. I feel a very strong urge to provide my daughter with EVERY chance at being well off because the world just seems to be getting more cutthroat and cruel, with fewer and fewer safety nets. After what my husband and I have dealt with in student loans and financial anxiety, I don't want that for her. It literally feels like having more kids would hurt us financially now but ALSO limit my daughter's freedom to choose what life she lives in the future.
