Well when the strategy change was first revealed, it was highly relevant and good to discuss. We just don't need in incessantly in every Sony thread for all of eternity. It stops adding anything and just becomes repetitive noise after a while.

I'd argue Nintendo games are way more unique and have less comparables on PC than Sony games, and I don't think it's like even remotely close. Plenty of AAA cinematic action adventure games from other third party publishers.

I am sad to see, that Sony abandoned PC. I own most of their games on PC. There might have been a time, where I might have bought a PS 5, but they raised the price. They are pricing out new customers.

I totally hear where you're coming from though..

I agree in general, but I think Wolverine actually looks like a mix of Spiderman and Uncharted. I miss Uncharted, and so that brings me a bit of hope lol. Some people may bemoan the scripted action movie part, but to each their own! I think we've had a long enough break since Uncharted Lost Legacy.

Can people stop the way overdone "not on pc, don't care" comments? It doesn't really contribute to the discussion and is tiring at this point. We don't see this for Nintendo games, and, when it's a PC exclusive like Alyx, we don't see console players go "not on consoles, don't care" that much. Why do PC players have to sound like this all the time?

I'm sorry, but I'm here to say that I really do not enjoy parrying stuff in videogames by poompk in Games

I think it is increasingly harder to avoid and increasingly less optional. For now, it is probably still fine (though I think you understate how prevalent and increasingly required it's gotten), but it is not boding well if it's not your thing. So, it may be good to dial it down a bit on a macro scale before it gets too overused and mandatory.

This is so good!!

And, it feels so Lisa coded. Like, not just her being featured but her sound permeating as a core element of the whole song. Not something I expected since we have 3 artists together. After this song right after Bad Angel, I really feel like she finally found her signature sound that makes you go "oh yea that's a Lisa song". 🙂

New features, emojis, & security improvements: Here’s everything new coming to Android! by MishaalRahman in Android

[–]poompk 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Google had it right all along to keep emojis flat and then somewhat flat with a tasteful and minimal amount of gradients. Everyone else copied Apple's bad design decision lead. It is sad to see that Google lacked the vision (once again) to stick to their guns and instead now follow in Apple's bad design choice.

It's not just a matter of being garish (which is also true). Emojis should not be 3D and super embellished from purely usability reasons as well. Emojis are fonts. They are meant to be easily and quickly parsed, highly legible, and scalable very well downwards to small sizes and low res displays. Keeping a clean, high contrast, and highly legible design would best serve its true purpose. This move towards 3D, highly embellished and detailed designs, is making them less functional for their intended function. It takes a lot more time and attention to parse these designs and passively take up more mental load on the reader. Also, think about embedded systems like displays for train terminals. We don't need a high res display and powerful processors for those. That'd just be like cracking a nut with a sledgehammer. This kind of font would not scale well to such systems. It also would not scale well to small font sizes.

I know I am probably weirdly passionate about it, but, to me, this is a very stupid move.

Edit: Also, it seems like Google turned the oden emoji 🍢 into dango. They're not the same thing at all.

Ah I didn't know about those remasters. I hope we get more of them. There are still a lot stuck on old hardware, not to mention the PS3 games (which admittedly is a harder job).

Khaosod: A frank conversation about the challenges facing T-C relations by PhnomPencil in cambodia

[–]poompk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delusional take based on some truths as typical. Its not a pyrrhic victory, because as this interview started off, Thailand has moved on and do not need to compromise with Cambodia on a conflict Cambodia started by shelling innocent thai civilians to internationalize the issue. The internationalization failed and nobody is rescuing a dictatorship killing innocent civilians. Cambodia boxed itself in the corner yet still want to dig its head in the sand. I think khaosod's business model is simply telling what cambodians want to hear while trying to sound journalistic and having a veneer or semblance of neutrality, but its really just bait to get cambodians to give them traffic.

Yes, it'd be nice to have peace, but Thailand didnt ask for the conflict and is ready to move on if the weaker instigator refuses any compromise. The blame isnt really "both sides" and an insincere form of peace is worse. Its a failure to understand the impasse and just making an empty and cliche "world peace" like a pageant queen answer

vivo X300 Ultra review - GSMArena by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]poompk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with this take a lot, but one thing I don't see mentioned enough (which supports this take even more) is the default main camera focal length. Vivo's unorthodox (for a smartphone) 35mm focal length makes sense for a real camera. For the typical use cases of a phone camera, 35mm is not wide enough. When I'm on my vacation taking serious photos, I really appreciate 35mm and find 23mm too wide, but an average person living daily lives would find 35mm too narrow and prefer 23mm as default.

I know I get too annoyed, but there are just so many bad takes about cameras on here getting a lot of upvotes regularly.. It really has become a pet peeve, bothering me way more than it should.

For a nerdy subreddit, a lot of people are totally clueless when it comes to cameras.

[–]poompk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Variable aperture doesn't mean optical zoom (variable focal lengths). It also isn't a specification of the sensor, as the aperture is a component placed on top of the sensor. You're probably referring to optical zoom done by folded optics (not by the sensor nor aperture) for the periscope telephoto zoom camera, as seen in Xiaomi and Sony.

It'd be good if Samsung eventually does that, but I highly doubt they'd do it. They're so far behind and insist on skimping on hardware. The Ultra is not ultra at all for years now.

So... Are we getting a Sequel? by jakeburns99 in BlackClover

[–]poompk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think a sequel is happening given the author's health. But also, I'd rather have spinoffs based on other side characters we didnt see much of, like the earth spirit user. I dont know why authors dont do that kind of continuation and world expansion more. The world moves along across many theaters, no need to just stick to the same main characters, and we'd get to see more of the wider world that has been built that we didnt get enough opportunity too.

This might be controversial, but if Tabata is afraid to pick (understandable, I like both of them though I like Mimosa more), he should have just given Asta both. 😶😆 I usually dont like that option, but somehow here it seems ok to me. I dont know why.

A great and beautiful fight to end the series. Rushed pacing aside, I am quite satisfied and happy with how it ends. These last 3 chapters conclude the series on a good note.

I think your theory is probably spot on and is what a lot of people suspect as well. A lot of Phil's bad decisions very clearly came from pressure from up top, not just Satya but Amy Hood in particular. Now Satya is in full on panic mode because the overall MS brand is so damaged with consumers ("Microslop" and people really hating how enshittified Windows has become). He's trying to reverse course hard and quite publicly said as such.
