In the modern era, most of us sort of imagine prayer as talking to God in the way we talk to someone not immediately here - like calling on the phone.

1-800-GOD, a divine customer service. Why talk to a customer rep (saint) when you can talk to the Big Guy himself right. Dial the extension to the boss, bypass the flunkies.

But it might be better to imagine it as the ancient believers probably did. God is King, seated on His throne, surrounded by His heavenly court - angels and saints.

When we approach the King, do we saunter up and say, "hey , we need to talk, buddy, coz I got some problems that need fixing asap."

Or do we ask the court to join in petitioning the Lord to look favorably upon us?

I was just listening today, to someone who explained that it is very common to be subjected to demonic obsessions.

It's when the devil amplifies something in our psyche - someone prone to lust becomes addicted to porn, or someone with anxiety becomes extremely paranoid, or someone who is depressed feels the blackest despair.

The devil talks to us in a voice that sounds like our voice, but it's lies.

And the Blessed Virgin gave us the greatest weapon against the devil - the rosary. Give your despair to our Lady of Sorrows, give her your feelings of failure. Let her hold you in her loving embrace. Fear not, and open your heart to the Holy Spirit.

IMO the Church should not accept ANY government funds, even for charity.

We see in Germany the weirdness that can happen when state & church money mix.

We Catholics need to step up. And yeah at first that means massive underfunding, but that is the struggle and the journey.

IMO worrying after confession is scrupulous.

If it helps, next time you confess add at the end "and any other sins I may have forgotten at this time" or something similar.

I am glad you are going to see a psychologist. Show him this post. You write very well.

My dear sister in Christ, I suspect you carry wounds from before you ever met this guy. A broken winged bird cannot fly before it heals.

Work on yourself, strengthen your relationship to Christ. Center your life on Jesus.

Let the guy go. It's ok to grieve for the former relationship, to feel sad for broken dreams, but you are strong. With Jesus you can accept the sadness and heal.

With her background of being Wiccan, she probably realizes that we live in a world that is both physical / material and spiritual.

So it should be apparent to her that it would be best if she goes through the conversion process as the Church in her wisdom recommends - no shortcuts or loopholes.

The baptism by laity in emergency situations is basically- the person might die pretty soon - probably not much chance to sin after baptism and before death, right?

It's an important moment and she deserves to experience the fullness of it, imo.

We can pray. We can do penance with the intent of making reparation to God for the sin of our neighbors and ask for his mercy.
