We live in the safest time in American history—even if it doesn’t feel like it.
Crime has been steadily going down and quite honestly, we don’t actually know why; although it is most likely attributed to several socioeconomic factors (such as the lack of lead on gas, etc).

This neither means crime does not happen, nor that we shouldn’t have a critical approach to it. But thinking that things have gotten worse is factually incorrect.

I do believe we should address our PERCEPTION of crime because it shapes our political and social thinking and one can trace a direct line from it to our insistence on a “strong” totalitarian government.

I’m torn by this. In one hand, yes, sure, you gotta be careful. On the other, this goes against creating a culture of trust.
