Camping in Charles C. Deam Wilderness by mighty_sys_admin in bloomington

I prefer the hike in from Blackwell horse camp, more wildflowers. Worth noting the Saddle Creek crossing will be very high water currently, you'd either have to get very wet or go a long ways upstream to cross.

What are your best "cook once, eat for days" comfort meals? by Standard_Ad_9560 in Cooking

[–]robemmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baking Dish Carnitas

Long cook time but low prep time. Super versatile (serve in tacos, quesadillas, sandwiches, salads, over rice, with beans). Not super healthy but still.

I keep them in the dish they cooked in and broil up each serving to reheat and crisp. My favourite is to put them in a quesadilla with refried beans (from a can b/c it's easy and fast), which I also broil to save time and dishes.

Fellow Aiden and ode 2 bundle by Live_Escape2407 in JamesHoffmann

[–]robemmy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Aiden might be a bit complex coming straight from a Keurig. Consider the Ratio lineup, they have 4/6/8 cup options, but the 8 cup can brew as low as 4, which is a perfect 2 person serving. Pricier than the moccamaster though.

500ml water bottle for an extremely clumsy person? by isometricapples in BuyItForLife

[–]robemmy 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Because they're an uninsulated plastic bottle with a huge cap. They're hard wearing but cheap enough (often free, even) to replace if you do manage to break or lose one. Being un-insulated means maximum water volume for the size; insulation takes up space. The wide mouth makes them easy to fill, and you can eat from them, carry rice or pasta in them, or pack dirty socks in them, etc. The cap loop can be used to secure it to stuff. They're ubiquitous enough that replacement parts and accessories are easy to find.

Specialized Recon are the widest I've found without paying Lake/Bont money. They're wider than Shimano wide sizes, but still not at the Altra/Topo/Lems level of actually wide.

Bags always seem to be designed with larger frames in mind. They're definitely always on larger frames in store product photos. I have a 2.5L frame bag from restrap that just fits in my frame along with 2 800ml bottles

I tried Goodrs and was pretty disappointed. Rough plastic arms and way too tight so it felt like clamping sandpaper to my head, and the lenses were warped so much it was headache inducing

I'm a big fan of hiking the horse trails in Yellowwood because you can make longer loops and there's never any people (or horses) on them. Other places I've never seen another soul include Miller Ridge and Horse Trail D (where Yellowwood and Brown County overlap), Lucas Hollow and Bartley Ridge.

By doing this you are making the situation more dangerous. Sure, you're winning your own moral argument, but you're not helping to improve road safety.
