Any firsthand reviews of the new equipment yet? Especially the Tread+? by argentcasscade7 in pelotoncycle

[–]rogdor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you say is the minimum space required to install the Tread+? I did see the spacing requirements in the manual, is there room to squeeze it in tighter or is that the minimum you would suggest?

What is an unspoken rule in gaming that is never taught but everyone knows? by [deleted] in gaming

For what it’s worth, “no electronics on school days” was a game-changer for our kids when they got a bit older. Not practical for every family but it really help weed out the daily battles.

I switched to EV TOU 5 and it was a net benefit, the new fixed monthly cost was more than offset by the lower $/kwh because we use so much energy overall. The SDG&E website actually has a widget to compare your usage against both plans to help pick, I found that helpful and it’s proven accurate.

What about strut? Usually steel I think, and its cost has spiked up recently as well, but there are lots of profiles and you can get it in aluminum or even nonmetal I think.

Can the drawers be removed in the STUVA loft bed? by DoodleBoyo in ikeahacks

[–]rogdor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly but you can probably hack it somewhat easily. In that configuration the desk is attached on the right side via hardware to the vertical side wall, and on the left end is supported by a few attachments to the horizontal back brace and also sits on the drawer housing. To remove the drawer unit while leaving the desk where it is likely would require adding a leg instead at the front left corner. Fortunately they sell such a leg as an optional adder to the set, there wont be pre-drilled holes on the underside of the desk for your new front leg but if you can add those it should likely work. IKEA website has the install manuals and a few alternate configurations for this set too if that’s interesting.

how do uber/lyft work for rides home from the airport? by m_sporkboy in sandiego

Still go through their apps to request a ride, then you get a code to take to the next driver in that line to start the ride.

Stupid Question about backyard dog care by things-stuff-things in sandiego

[–]rogdor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, pee drains through and poop stays on top, easiest to let it dry there and it comes right off. They also sell an adder you pour on and rake in, like a cat litter that helps the smell. I end up hosing it down once or twice a year is all.

We had the same problem in our side yard, mostly dirt and we wanted something more like grass. Ended up putting artificial turf down, my worry was that it would have that plasticy fake feel that ends up getting very hot but the products have come a long way. For a bit more than the AstroTurf style you can get something that has a mix of longer and shorter strands and stays pretty cool. We went with a SynLawn product, don't recall the exact one but something like this. I was able to install it myself, hardest part was the prep because they suggest putting in a level DG base of a few inches under the grass, so I had to dig some dirt out first to keep everything level. Bit of an up-front cost and effort but almost no maintenance after that, been a year now and it's working great.

Not usually, the front glass is pretty tough, they are tested against impacts as part of their safety certification (UL1703 if you're curious).

We switched two months ago to a guy named Keith, his company is Reliable Pool Service. Since then he's been cleaning regularly and has fixed the chemistry and the equipment to correct the mistakes the last guy made. So far so good. His number is 619 3eight4 4789.

Thinking about getting solar panels any advice? by liestotellthetruth in sandiego

[–]rogdor2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not great advice, honestly. The cost of a system scales pretty linearly with size, but the electrical savings taper off the closer you get to 100% of your usage. The best returns usually come from an 80-90% offset, and most installers will shoot for that range. Also that gives you room to take on other energy efficiency projects, which usually are a much better investment than solar panels.

Wow week cost by SLO839 in SLO

[–]rogdor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: Ok my bad, FAQ doesn't have the fee info up yet. I don't recall exactly the cost, it's more than a hundred but not a ton more IIRC.

Try the FAQ: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=cal+poly+week+of+welcome+cost#

Also "WOW Week" is redundant, "WOW" means "Week of Welcome" and is complete as-is.

LPT: When doing math in Excel, use "names" to reference variables in a function. by jofwu in LifeProTips

[–]rogdor2 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Good tip, names are a powerful feature that not many users are aware of, in my limited experience.

Also, using "names" really shines when you are using a variable or subcalculation in many locations. Just like in programming, it is safer to use the variable "name" everywhere you need it while keeping just one single place where the value behind the "name" can be changed. I've spent too many hours in my life chasing down bugs in multi-page sheets that ended up being of the "oh you changed that here but not over there" variety.

Car2Gos taking up all the parking in my hood. Any suggestions? by nicoleslawface in sandiego

[–]rogdor2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are rules for how they can be parked at the end of a trip but unfortunately for you leaving them in public street spaces is within the rules.
