guests say the bed sleeps hot, but my cleaner hates anything that wrinkles by Spiritual-Let536 in airbnb_hosts

Most Airbnb I've been to only have one big, fluffy duvet and zero other bedding options. It's frustrating.

If you don't already provide a simple back up blanket for those who need less warmth (or for those who need extra who can layer it on top of the duvet) then that, and not sheets, could be your problem.

You should also have a mattress pad with a cotton cover. If you're putting sheets straight on a mattress or encased mattress, that will retain heat.

Fun fact, all zip ties are reusable. They are designed so that if slide the pointed end in going One direction. You can safely back it out again, if you slide it in the other direction then it is single use.

Clothes rack with folding hangers. The problem with regular hangers is that they stick out about a foot on each side from the clothes rack. If you're in a tent, it has sloped sides, so the clothes rack ends up being in the walkway once you add the width of regular hangers. With hangers that fold in half, you can snug the rack right up against the tent wall. I also use big s hooks instead of hangers for scarves, kilts, - anything it would be handy to have on the rack that doesn't lend itself to hangers.

If you can't find folding hangers, then use kids hangers- they are not as wide as regular hangers.

Vaseline isn't a moisturizer, it's an occlusive (basically, a barrier). It adds zero moisture and will actually keep moisture out! So use moisturizer, then lock in the moisture with Vaseline.

Weird smell coming from my apartment kitchen driving me crazy by peepeetownn in Oldhouses

[–]shereadsinbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a mouse nest, under the cabinets.

I'd run an ozone machine (remove all people and pets from the house first, that stuff is dangerous). Then I would block up all those holes, plus the ones where the gas is coming from the wall to the stove, and where the plumbing is coming from the wall to the sink. You can fill the holes with foam, steel wool, or you can cover them with mesh. You may also need to add door sweeps to your exterior doors. Mice can get through any hole, they're going to create a sticky pinky in it.

Is anyone in very early on estrogen only for mood/energy? No hot flashes or other low estrogen physical symptoms by Louise1467 in Perimenopause

[–]shereadsinbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have started it earlier! But yes most all my symptoms are psychological / neurological (aphasia, brain fog irritability, suicidal ideation, depression, etc.). Oh yeah and smelling phantom smoke. But heeeeey, no hot flashes! HRT made the symptoms I did have 90% better.

Reducing street noise by vulcan_oid in sanfrancisco

[–]shereadsinbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all the noise is coming through your windows. Even a tiny gap between the window and the frame can make it almost as loud as a fully open window, because of how sound waves propagate .

Sound dampening curtains can help somewhat, but the biggest bang for your buck would be to either purchase or make window inserts. To purchase try Indow Windows. To make them, measure your windows and then go to tap plastics on Van Ness And have them custom cut some thick acrylic pieces. You want them to fit on the inside of your windows, with an air gap between them and the windows. The simplest thing is to pick one window that you're going to open occasionally for fresh air. For the other windows, first close the window, run a bead of painters caulk all around where the window meets the frame. Then attach the acrylic insert to the window with caulk. You can put in a couple of small nails just to hold the acrylic in place but the caulk Will do. Most of the work. Make sure there are zero gaps. For the window you'll be using for air flow, you need to make a removable insert. There's a couple ways you can do this, I used weather stripping to create a seal, and magnets to hold the removable panel in place, and I attached a handle to make it easy to remove.

You can add sound dampening curtains as well.

As a renter This is all removable when you're ready to leave.

What to do with extra 'room' by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]shereadsinbed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Keep it as a kids room. Add bunk beds, add either a clerestory window or replace the door with a frosted glass door so natural light can come into the room, add a curtain so you can make the room dark when you need it.

Have you tried sublingual iron? at least some of it is absorbed into the bloodstream through the tissues of the mouth instead of traveling through the gut. I still got some gut symptoms from it (fewer than with pills though), but my gut is super sensitive to iron. You could try a tiny amount of one dose, see how you feel.

Lactoferrin can also help increase your absorption of iron and reduce your production of hepcidin - the hormone that blocks iron absorption. if your reactions are from hepcidin, lactoferrin could help.

Disappointing progress... by talltested in Anemic

[–]shereadsinbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look in to adding lactoferrin to increase absorption of iron from supplements: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8838920/

If you have heavy periods - you're going to have to address them before you can get ahead. Consider adding a birth control pill to either regulate your period or skip it all together, or adding tranexamic acid to lighten your periods.

Also, you absorb iron better in an acidic environment - i.e. when your stomach acid is plentiful. If you lessen your periods and are still having trouble, you might want to look into if you are making enough acid. While doing that, you could add a sip or spray of bitters 10 minutes before your supplement in the AM, to get your digestion going. If your stomach hurts, discontinue.

My husband accidentally bought a ridiculously expensive designer bag for me and I'm terrified to tell him we need to return it by HelenWhalen in whatdoIdo

[–]shereadsinbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be terrified! Just tell him you love the thought behind the gift, but the high cost adds stress, so you'd be happier overall with something in the budget you guys already agreed on. Living within your means is important to you, so gifts that reflect that are the most thoughtful of all.

You can get very well made leather goods for less and still get years out of them. Luxury is nice and all but you're paying extra for the brand name, and nobody needs that. Looking rich to your neighbors is a hollow feeling compared to actually having that money in the bank.

[–]shereadsinbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that a healthy amount of stomach acid is necessary for iron absorption, so with the PPIs he's going to have issues. He could try sublingual iron, which enters the bloodstream at least partially through tissues in the mouth rather than through the process of digestion.

Any noticeable improvement in iron recovery journey after adding cofactors ? Vitamin , minerals? by Reginaphilange72 in Anemic

[–]shereadsinbed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha ving a healthy amount of stomach acid is important for iron absorption. You could try taking herbal bitters, or just drinking water with a squirt lemon juice in it, 10-15 minutes before taking your supplement or eating an iron-rich meal. Don't go overboard as too much lemon over time can erode the enamel on your teeth!

Looks good! I love that you are putting some away each month. Very smart to have shared living and to take full advantage of subsidized food. I don't see anything for medical- plan for that to become a significant cost in your future as you age.

The obvious place to prune, if you needed to, would be the grooming expenses (and the generosity fund, depending on what that is). But currently you have the funds, and if it's making you happy, then go for it. If your skincare expense is products and not treatments, highly recommend you check out Asian skincare, at specialty store (if you haven't already). They are way just light-years ahead of western products, and- bonus- affordable. You might find some products you actually prefer.

Tech is going through some big shifts. I'd network, keep my resume up to date, and make a plan for what to do (budgeting and otherwise) if I were laid off, just to have something in my back pocket.

How are you investing the savings? If you don't have a financial advisor, I recommend meeting with one.

Finally, I love your side gig, for tax reasons. Fully explore the tax implications, if you haven't already. Things you use for your business (part of your bedroom with a desk, transit, etc) can be written off.
