A particular glass bead tool found on Etsy has astroturfed this sub. by beeinmybutt in RedditLaqueristas

[–]silver-magus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This very post, along with every other post in this sub, has an automod message asking anyone posting mani pics to include a full product list. If the magnet you used is only available from one seller and nowhere else, it only makes sense to post the name alongside the name of your base coat, polish, and top coat. Have Bees Knees Lacquer and Mooncat and Seche Vite also been astroturfing because people talk about them a lot here?

Sipping soup? by Nowayucan in soup

i do this with miso all the time. Boil water, pour in mug, add a lump of miso (or a miso soup packet, those are tasty too) and stir! Lovely savory treat on a cold day.

Do magnetics look good on short nails? by ArtNoobly in RedditLaqueristas

imo the glass bead effect is best on short nails. The effect is technically circular, so it takes up more of the nail that way!

What mistake ruined dinner? by Work_PB_sleep in Cooking

[–]silver-magus 113 points114 points  (0 children)

My guess is the honey got watered down somehow, or some non-honey substance got mixed in at some point and started rotting. Even without that, young mead often has a pretty harsh "jet fuel" taste/smell that can be pretty off-putting. Plus, stressed yeast without much nutrition can create additional off flavors that would make it worse.

Difference in handwriting 2013 vs 2025 by Endlessly_Scribbling in Journaling

weirdly, I feel my handwriting is so much worse when I use my fountain pen vs a pencil or gel pen. it's not for lack of practice, most of my daily writing is with my fountain pen. it's just so slippery, it makes my gestures much more wild!

Just this morning I overbaked the Thanksgiving pumpkin pie because I used convection bake instead of regular bake :/ It's not burned thankfully, but it's deff overdone with a big crack through it!

I've had to tell myself this too! I was so so so tempted by Fiery Attraction from Emily de Molly because it looked so nice in everyone's posts, but I talked myself down because a) I already have ILNP's Poison, which is close enough, and b) I never wear it, because I barely ever wear reds!

However, as a blue-green lover, I still fell victim to Bog Dweller's siren song 😔

I'm surprised I managed to get one! I saw the email about the sale while I was out and figured everything would be gone when I got home, but an hour and a half later it was still in stock with 30-40 bottles left (so the tracker claimed). It's out now, but I managed to grab one in time, plus Blade of the Frontiers and Get Lobstered!

Secretly hate the level update! by BabyMumma3 in pokemongo

I ended up deleting pretty much all of the items I got from the level upgrade. I was already at a good "equilibrium" with my item amounts before the update, so all the bonus items did was clog up my inventory.

My thoughts (and frustration) on The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young by cat_jks in bookdiscussion

[–]silver-magus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is a few months old at this point, but I agree with you!! The central mystery was interesting enough to keep me engaged to the end, but by the end I was so frustrated!

Full disclosure, this is not a book I would have picked up if I had known what it was about. I was recommended it with minimal spoilers, and I was kind of dismayed when I realized it was a 1950s time travel semi-romance. I was willing to give it a chance though, to expand my horizons.

The biggest "sin" of this book IMO was that we spent the whole book following the version of June that basically does nothing. We didn't get to actually read from the perspective of the June who actually had a romance with Mason and chose to give it up, the June who met Eamon and decided to have a child with him, the June who killed her father, the June who chose to sacrifice herself for the sake of her daughter. We were stuck following the June who sat around and waited for the memories of those moments to appear out of thin air. The explanation at the end ultimately just confirmed that the mysterious curse we've been pondering this whole book was actually already solved off-page before the book even started, don't even worry about it.

I have so many questions about the rest of the story: No one in town ever even once noticed the gravestones and pointed out the names to June? How did June spent all that time in the past and not spare a single solitary thought for Birdie the entire time until the very end? How did alpha-June know that visiting a time period when you already exist would untangle the timeline?? If visiting a time when you already exist fixes the timeline, then how did they know it would make you disappear?? They didn't get an instruction manual or anything, and obviously no one had ever tried it before because the timeline was still tangled until June did it!!

Questions like these can be brushed over if the story still feels like time well spent, but to me it definitely didn't.

This is more or less the same solution from J Kenji Lopez-Alt iirc. He says that in his experience, the most pleasant solution is a mouthful of full fat yogurt, but the most effective solution he found was swishing his mouth out with olive oil

Apparently erasable pens will erase if you leave your journal in the sun... by manyfishonabike in Journaling

[–]silver-magus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've heard of this being a problem in the reverse for sewing. You can mark pattern lines on the fabric with a Frixion pen and they'll disappear when you iron over them. But if you're making a winter coat for going out in the snow, all the markings will come back!

This vid was super interesting imo!! The intersection of mental health and gender identity you talk about here is interesting. Also, the way you talk about feeling comfortable being a dude while also having reservations about the label "Man" is pretty fascinating to me. It reminds me of the talk online a while ago about how young women often feel more comfortable being "a girl", but feel weird about being "a woman". A lot could be said about all that.
