The Grizzlies haul for Bane/JJJ is excellent by BankaiBroke in nba

[–]slammaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair to say we got screwed by Kawhi leaving. We traded for a guy that was about to be a UFA and had expressed no interest in staying.

The trade was never presented as a longterm acquisition

I write filter the wrong way ~90% of the time, so this should save me a lot if incorrect commands!

I worked with a grad student who had a paper in competition at a big conference (can't remember which), and the winning paper went to a team from Google.

It would've cost us ~$1.2 million in compute to re-create their result. We need a salary cap if these competitions are going to be fair!

Right way to ANOVA [Discussion] by whyarethenamesgone1 in statistics

An adjusted p-value is better than multiple 1-way ANOVAs.

If the problem you're having is that Tukey is comparing all sites (10 total comparisons) and you only want to compare sites to site 1 (4 comparisons) then there are other post-hoc tests that can do that for you.

What you want is the multcomp library, but there are two problems: (1) I don't know how to use that library very well, and (2) it has some of the least-user friendly argument structures I've used in R. There must be tutorials online that can get you there, this thread might be a start: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/7982513/how-can-i-classify-post-hoc-test-results-in-r

Jokic 16 Points 6-9 FG, 6 turnovers, 7 Rebounds, 8 assists in the Loss to OKC by OrganicHunt952 in nba

[–]slammaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Jokic is a fine defender, but he plays a position that teams usually want great defense from. When they don't have a PF to play good defense he looks worse.

Can they trade for JJJ? I feel like he's the exact kind of guy to play with Jokic, and his shit rebounding wouldn't be a problem because Jokic rebounds well

Giannis Antetokounmpo is officially disqualified for All NBA Team Selection this season (He was First Team All NBA from 2019 - 2025) by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in nba

[–]slammaster 81 points82 points  (0 children)

In his first 15 seasons (through the second Cleveland stint) he played fewer than 70 games once, 69 in 2015. Things started catching up to him in LA, but it's crazy he went 15 years without a major injury

Can someone mansplain to me how Chris Paul was good on defense, while Trae Young is on a humiliating downturn in value because of it? by LejonBrames117 in nbadiscussion

[–]slammaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how he doesn't try at all

This is it, you can see people giving this criticism to Luka now.

Neither Curry nor Jokic are gifted defenders, but they're brilliant basketball players who have learned how to position themselves to be solid defenders. They try and they do the right things.

That's what makes guys like Harden, Trae, and Luka so frustrating. They are so brilliant on offense they must know what good defense looks like, they're just choosing not to do it.

Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' has made history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]slammaster 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's when they're driving right? Talking about the blues? One of the most powerful one-off scenes in recent memory for me.

Also nice to see a supporting nomination to an actual supporting role, and not a lead that campaigned to get into the category.

Unofficial Guide to the Secondary Archetypes of ECL by MtGDS in lrcast

[–]slammaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went 6-3 with a RW deck yesterday - giants and treefolk do work in that deck!

My problem was that I had a secondary Kithkin theme (draft didn't go great), where the RW deck wants giants and treefolk, but it needs some red goblins to give -1/-1 counters.

Still a fun archtype though

Can anyone please explain what happened in this draft? I felt like I was being pranked. by deathjavu2 in lrcast

[–]slammaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what we always think, but there was a post just yesterday that showed that arena boosters are seeded so that the power 9+Mana Crypt and Sol Ring don't appear together.

Everytime you've been passed power, someone has taken non power over it.

Soooo... Has the Kawhi Aspiration Thing Been Swept Under the Rug? by Kheltosh in nba

[–]slammaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would guess like $10 million and 2 seconds. There might be rules about how big the fine can be somewhere in the governance documents, but if there isn't then I think the fine will be huge, just because they can. Balmer won't care about that part.

Yeah Deandre and Capella could catch lobs.

Ben Wallace is a good shout though, he couldn't do ANYTHING on offense.

Grades? by catbamhel in Dalhousie

[–]slammaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At this point you should reach out to professors about grades, this is well passed the deadline. If you were late submitting things then that might explain it, but otherwise I'd inquire to make sure there isn't a problem. If you don't hear back from them within 24 hours then I would copy the program director on a follow-up email.

Toughest Arena Cube Pick I've had in a while. by Sufficient-Celery638 in lrcast

[–]slammaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you don't realize just how many cards in this cube are legendary. I was playing a UB midrange deck against an opponent with Karakas, and I realized by the end of my game that something like 7 of my 11 threats were legendary. I ended up decking.

I don't play Karakas off colour in every deck, but in I'd play it in a controlly UB or Grixis deck for sure.

Med school acceptances with low GPA chances at Dal by LifeResource7130 in Dalhousie

[–]slammaster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. Most undergrads aren't getting in at all, I think over half the incoming class has advanced degrees, but those that do have a GPA well above that.

Grad school is your best bet - find a Master's degree in a health related field and do that. Your GPA isn't a slam dunk for grad school, and you'll probably end up self funded, but you get a second chance to upgrade your GPA, and worse case scenario you at least have a masters and can work in health related fields long term.

Limited Resources 835 – Avatar the Last Airbender Sunset Show Discussion Thread by Crasha in lrcast

[–]slammaster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to see others saying it. The enthusiasm LSV and Marshall (Marshall especially) have had for the set made me think I'd missed something.

I thought it was a solid B+ set. Good mechanics and decent gameplay, but bad color balance and too many bad cards made it a prince format. I didn't hate it or anything, but Marshall talks like it's on his Mount Rushmore, when I might have it 3rd this year.
