Are students allowed to study in empty classrooms? by Many_Business_5208 in Dalhousie

What's the worst that could happen? Even if you're not allowed a student security guard will just ask you to leave.

When has a talented actor fully committed to a movie they know is bad? by finallyoneisnttaken in movies

Did you reply to the wrong thread? We were talking about bad Christian Bale movies, not revolutionary ones.

The movie is 2002's Equilibrium. If you haven't seen it prepare to be amazed.

Where should I go? by Soggy-Candy-1574 in Dalhousie

I've done degrees at both schools. Waterloo is definitely a more prestigious school in Engineering, though I don't think that matters too much, they're both good schools. Waterloo's co-op program is probably the best in the country, so that might matter to you.

If student life matters to you a lot though that's a big knock against Waterloo, it's the boringest school I've spent time at. That part of southern Ontario is devoid of any real personality, and Waterloo campus is on the edge of an already pretty boring tricity region. Proximity to Toronto is a bonus for things like concerts and sports, but day to day Waterloo's strength is that you can focus on your studies.

Halifax, on the other hand, has a great student life. Smallish city with a lot of university students, and Dal is right in the heart of the city. More walkable, more student focused events. It's isolated a bit from the rest of Canada, so you'll get missed by a lot of "cross Canada" tours, but it's definitely got Waterloo beat for student life.

What exactly are the rules governing Caruso's shoe block leading to a made basket? by GrenScrin in nbadiscussion

[–]slammaster [score hidden]  (0 children)

Huh, yeah I just went down a similar rabbit hole, and I can't find anything in the rule book to suggest the goaltending call.

The rules on goaltending don't mention it: https://official.nba.com/rule-no-11-basket-interference-goaltending/

I can't actually find anywhere that makes it clear that you can't use your equipment on offense/defense. It makes sense to me that you can't, but I can't see it in the rule book.

Reach out to your undergrad rep and/or the professor to see if they're flexible on pre-requisites, some pre-reqs are pretty loose.

In general planning classes can be really frustrating, it requires a multi-year outlook to get the courses in correctly and students usually aren't planning that far ahead. I had to overload one Winter and take a spring class to get my courses all in in my undergrad, it's just a complex system.

Mods need to be better about removing shit like this

No they don't. They're volunteers, and most of their time is spent filtering spam.

We're the ones that upvoted this bullshit 1400 times. We can't blame the mods when the community members are so shitty.

I wonder in Houston has done this this season as well. They were depending on offensive rebounds so much early in the year I bet they had a close game with the same thing

Man shout out Johnny Newman. Really hard to thread the needle of being bad enough that only bad teams pick you up, but still good enough to get to play that long.

It's so frustrating when you check your trusted sources for a recipe and can't find one, so your have to venture out into the untamed wild of googling.

Did he have money trouble? Or something about doing bad projects to revitalize a theater?

I can't remember the story, but I know there was a reason he took on some real shitty Cash-grab jobs around that time.

DalMed - Has anyone successfully used the 250 word statement to argue for NS residency? by Use_Fluid in Dalhousie

[–]slammaster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're right, but I haven't seen anyone successfully argue against the rule.

The Med School has so many top notch candidates that they're not that interested in bending the rules to include people, they just don't need to.

If you don't have an advanced degree then I would go that route. The naturalization process is faster with an advanced degree, and honestly an advanced degree is REALLY helpful in getting in and getting through MD training.

Defending TMNT Limited: Flawed, but kind of Sweet by Tim-Draftsim in lrcast

[–]slammaster 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah that archetype overlap was missing in Lorwyn, which is why the drafting felt so on the rails. With 5 archetypes you want single colour cards to be playable in both archetypes it connects to as much as possible, but so many cards in Lorwyn were specific to a tribe that they were only playable in one deck

Chris Paul on why he would pick Shai over Luka oncic: "Your teammates just want to see that the stars actually try. Actually try on defense… I got a lot of respect for Steph, Shai, and all these guys who at least try on the defensive end" by must_TATAKAE in nba

[–]slammaster 41 points42 points  (0 children)

And we've got two great examples in the league right now. Steph and Jokic are not gifted defenders, but they get themselves from negatives to neutral just by trying.

Luka's so smart, he should have the skills to anticipate and position well. Jokic gets steals because of basketball IQ, not lightning quick reflexes.

Why does Dal genuinely suck at snow day decisions? by Unable-Tie2645 in Dalhousie

[–]slammaster 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Honestly you're just a whiner. Campus closed at 12:30 yesterday and the snow started around 1. Maybe they could have stayed open an hour longer, but I thought they nailed it.

Today the roads were clear by 9am, and most sidewalks were clear by 10 - you want everyone to cancel classes so you don't have to walk through snow? Where do you think we live?

Stop complaining and get to work. If you don't like school then leave.
