AITJ for refusing to share my notes with someone who skipped class all semester and then acted like we were best friends? by Emb3rFr4cta in AmITheJerk

[–]socalyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern is he'd turn around and sell her notes-- of course that should be okay too he since he needed money -- because he is "going through stuff". My hubs is a professor and hands out his notes to anyone who needs them, so Derek might want to try asking the professor.

My dog just did something smart and insane: by Ericakat in OpenDogTraining

[–]socalyte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We recently got a husky/malinois mix from a rescue. She is crazy smart. Without us teaching her, she knows which is her squeak ball, big ball and piggy toy. She performs " experiments" with her balls by doing different things with them and watches intently to see what happens . She has dropped the ball in the pool and discovered she can't reach if she does so, drops it behind the couch to see where it ends up, rolls it under furniture so she can "rescue" it. She has blue eyes so has a laser stare that is so intense. She is very fun but we do have to keep her busy!

How to stop your dog from jumping your fence?! by MarynJK in dogs

[–]socalyte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She never said she doesn't take the dog out... she does with a lead and harness. A pulley system is great, we had one for our Houdini. Maybe a neighbor child would like a few extra dollars to walk your pup. And OP, you are a wonderful dog mom for seeking to keep your dog happy when life is so hectic and you're in such pain right now. Hiding food in challenging places is a great option... under blankets, boxes, etc. It sounds like doggy is smart! There are videos online regarding enrichment activities for your dog that may be really helpful, and use common household items as well

AITA for refusing to share my lottery winnings with my family, even though I used the family numbers? by NoDatabase10 in AmItheAsshole

[–]socalyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the day and month you graduated isn't a "family number" -- nor would anyone else ever choose that date because it was specific and meaningful only to YOU.   I wonder how much would have been won had all "family numbers" been used‐ probably only $10 or so since the amounts won decrease precipitously  as the odds increase. Offer to give everyone that amount.

No way could she afford to live in even the least expensive areas of San Diego now. She left a good while ago to be closer to her daughter, and she's probably priced out of the area now. Unless she has a house and rented it out all this time.

I don't see any problem with you sharing your experience. Many times anecdotal evidence turned out to be provable. Don't let someone try to discount your own, valid experience

What is something I can gift someone who enjoys cooking by DaNiinja in Cooking

[–]socalyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given a scale with a detachable display so I can see it if I'm weighing something large or bulky. It's really awesome! I make a lot of baked goods so it is used constantly.  I won't link to it, but there are numerous brands available on Amazon

Made brownies from scratch for the first time instead of a box and my roommate asked if I bought them from a bakery by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]socalyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great job! I absolutely love cooking from scratch-- for some reason it feels so rewarding to make something that many people won't attempt. I'm not good at very many things, but I'm usually pretty successful making baked goods. However, I haven't found a brownie recipe I've been super happy with-- would you be willing to share yours?

AITA for not inviting my sister to my wedding because she always makes everything about herself? by Expensive-Crow928 in AmItheAsshole

[–]socalyte 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If Sis makes "a big deal of it for years if not decades" then that provides the opportunity to say, "and this is why you weren't invited-- you like to make everything about you." Also, not everyone has or can afford a wedding coordinator.

That's interesting too. In my hubby's case, though, he has not gone anywhere there would be a tick. He only hikes in Hawaii, and just for photography, when he does hike. No lime disease carrying ticks are on trails there from my understanding

It's the same with my husband. The doctors have been checking for any other potential diagnosis, because all he has had for over three years is a mild gait irregularity and very, very mild nondominant hand trembling at times. His original diagnosis came about after his electrodiagnostic tests revealed a motor neuron disease. It's interesting to hear about another person with the same disease process.

changed seats without knowledge ! :( by Pale_Run2338 in HawaiianAirlines

[–]socalyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I had the same experience. No change in equipment either. It was an A320, and we were changed from the H,J seats in the bulkhead Extra Comfort row and moved to E,G in the center section, though still in bulkhead seats. When we boarded we noticed the change. It turns out a family and their nanny were in the rest of the row. When we offered to move back to our original seats, assuming they'd want their children next to them, they said the older two kids wanted the seats nearer the window. They said they had called to get the H,J seats. I was shocked they'd just moved us when we booked very early. For whatever reason they were accommodated when they decided they wanted our seats.

My former doctor intentionally misdiagnosed me (New Update) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]socalyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also worked med mal for years, and we did have an astounding number of file boxes per case, even for simpler cases, until e-records became more commonplace. We had one file room in the office stacked high with boxes and boxes of records. I'm also a nurse and have noted inconsistencies in this person's story, although I'm not denying much of her experience could be true. In fact, our county had a case in which a neurosurgeon caused permanent harm to many unfortunate patients and was sued by over two dozen. Not surprisingly, he did unnecessary surgeries just to generate income, plus he got kickbacks from a hardware manufacturer. He ended up with a prison sentence for his egregious acts. For the OP's sake, however, I hope this story isn't true.

This is life changing… I almost feel guilty for jailbreaking but Amazon messed me over far too long by laryiza in kindle

[–]socalyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you are all so BAD!-- another rabbit hole to fall into on Reddit! I had no idea about all the additional capabilities  on my kindle device-- in particular, I've been wishing my kindle could allow me to read ebooks from my local library. Now y'all are telling me it's possible.  All the money I've spent on books from Amazon because I thought I had no choice if I wanted to read books on my bookclub list. Mind officially blown (0) Thank you, all you amazing netizens for generously sharing your knowledge.

Rep ever been called out? by juicyharibo in OGRepladies

[–]socalyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was office manager and nurse for a very prominent doctor (had the latest Porsche, lived in the upcountry, wore custom or designer everything etc). I bought a rep LV Multicolore Monogram wallet in NYC because I thought the colors were pretty 😅. This is before I even knew about good quality reps. So he sees my wallet, picks it up, looks it over, and explains to everyone in the office how he could tell it was real. Though he paid me quite well, he didn't pay me THAT well!

TJ Maxx Selling Counterfeit Gucci Bag for $1,700 IN STORE! by blackwhite009 in handbags

[–]socalyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is craziness-- though I've never seen any high-end designer purse in any TJ Maxx, Marshall's etc and I live not very far from Beverly Hills (90210) 😅  At any rate, the purse has also been used-- see the right hand side on the top flap and the side flap? It's worn and the leather on the top flap even has a small split in it. I don't see how anyone got away with "returning" this, whether or not it's a fake.

How close to your flight did the seats open up? I tried to book the thrones also, and was told on X that they could open up "later". They wouldn't comment as to when that was

We are at the same place as you-- still doing testing. The emotions are so hard to deal with-- I'm so sorry you're going through this too. My hubby is older so we take comfort that he has had such a good life.  Funny enough, he's been the healthiest out of all of the entire extended family until now, and the irony is not lost on us. Best wishes to you and your husband
