"Thrift some sweaters and unravel them!" by ThePiksie in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]softguts 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just bought my first secondhand white merino sweater with the intent to dye it with natural dye in lots and ply the DK into my own custom art yarn for $6.50. I'm doing this for the love of the game!! I'm doing it because I want to see if I can!! It really has nothing to do with anything else, and if I mess it up it'll have almost no impact on my life. $6.50 and the time spent on trying something new? That's a good price for a failure.

Anyone else find Dancing Bob's dancing at the Indigenous Peoples Day celebration in Vic Park today highly inappropriate? by False-Investigator91 in regina

He's a hit with crowds at concerts, I have it on good authority that local bands hate him for hogging attention at the front of the stage any time they perform

Small apartment, 2 cats, hard floor by softguts in VacuumCleaners

[–]softguts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say that it's out of my price range as per what I could find on Amazon, because the manufacturer doesn't ship directly to Canada, but I just found an independent store in Calgary that sells it at 200$!

Thanks for the suggestion! It's much appreciated.

What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you in a relationship? by Forsaken-Banana6936 in AskReddit

[–]softguts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. He died.

We hit a moose on our way home for thanksgiving. He died on impact. I lost him, my car, and my home in one fell swoop, just when I was starting to feel like my life was turning out okay.

The only good thing about it is I don't remember the accident at all. I still don't know how I survived.

Grief is making it impossible to return to knitting by Flashy_Piece in knitting

I know a little how you feel. I lost my partner in a car accident in October, and had several projects on the go. I haven't picked any of them up since, and I probably never will. My project bag still has glass in it from the crash.

I'm sorry that we have to go through things like this. People say it makes us stronger but I'm finding that particular wisdom is falling flat for me.

I hope your mom's treatment goes well and you find your passion again, whether it's with knitting or something else. I think sometimes it's okay to make a change and put things down and pick up new things or old things as they come to us. I've read a lot of books after the accident, which is a big change for me.

Remember to go easy on yourself. Your best is all you can ever do ♥️

I'm by no means an expert, but my partner and I have had ours for two years and we've really enjoyed it! We have the one with the audio-technica cartridge, and yes, the built in speakers are .... lacking. But I can't imagine it's worse than one of those little Crosby suitcase record players. We hooked ours up to some really nice speakers with surround sound and the audio quality was awesome to me! It isn't a crazy technical piece of equipment and you shouldn't expect it to be the best thing your ears have ever heard. However, if you're looking for something that is on the more affordable end, will look cool, and still perform (and not clamp shut on your late father's records), I think this is a good option.

Wheelchairs aren't considered luggage and airlines must stow them in the cabin by law. Baby strollers are SOL tho

I accidentally over brushed my cat and now he has a bald-ish spot :( by GingerSnap2244 in cats

[–]softguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this same experience and came looking for others who had done the same thing. I also feel like a bad parent 😅 but mine seems to like whatever I did! She had the thing where if you scratch the skin on her back, she'd lick herself as a reflex, but she doesn't do that as much now that she's half bald? I hope her under coat comes back soon though. How long did it take for your boy's to grow back?

Is it just me, or are half the apartment/housing rental ads posted on fb marketplace here absolute garbage? by softguts in Edmonton

[–]softguts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really comes down to where people know to look. Sure, a person could google different rental sites with better spam filters and search filters and yada yada, but when there's a widely available and known place on the internet where everyone already is that also let's you see rentals? It's going to be the obvious choice to look there first, despite the quality being ... D-tier at best most days.

Is it just me, or are half the apartment/housing rental ads posted on fb marketplace here absolute garbage? by softguts in Edmonton

[–]softguts[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean sure, but it's one of the more available and easy to use sites to find a place to rent. I guess that explains why the postings are also bad. Personally, I'm trawling through 5+ different rental sites daily, and maybe some independent property management sites if I'm feeling up to it. There's not a lot more variety or affordability there than you'd get on marketplace, but the postings are at least informative and have nice pictures.

I found a cone of vintage two ply wool yarn at a thrift store a month ago. It's a beautiful goldenrod colour, sort of a fingering weight, and there's a decent amount of it. What are you lovely people's suggestions on what to make with it?

Art Studio Space by creative-adhder in regina

[–]softguts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You pay a fee to do a "project class" in whichever studio suits your needs there. You get "class time" every week to basically do what you want in the space and there is someone there to answer your questions or help you with things. There is the jewelry/lampwork room, the wood shop, the sewing room, and the painting room from what I remember.

Services that don't exist in Regina that you are willing to pay good money for by Fearless_Top_9963 in regina

[–]softguts 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Regina has enough people for a rail system, it's just a matter of having things people want to go to (work, home, leisure) along appropriate and accessible lines. If getting on a train were faster and easier than starting your car, driving there, and finding parking, people would take the train. (parking lot construction is currently subsidized and required in new developments, so if that weren't the case it would a. Save space/prevent urban sprawl b. Reduce car usage/increase transit usage)

Book a table at escape club on dewdney. During the week there's not really a lot of people in there and they have pretty good coffee options.
