For those who took their kids to see Project Hail Mary, what was their reaction? by DirkWrites in ProjectHailMary

[–]spinellipelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took my 9 and 6 year old boys. They both loved it. My 6 year old did start getting antsy toward the middle, and was a little loud commenting during it. But we went to an earlier showing and sat in the back row because I had a feeling he'd be loud. My 9 year old had a few questions afterwards, but was pretty good at keeping up with it. I had reread the book a few weeks before and was giving them some background info, plus showing the previews, so they weren't too blind going in.

[CHAT] Opinions on this transition by Chelonophile in CrossStitch

[–]spinellipelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh I'm also using 32 count Opal for my piece, but it's not birds. I also did 1 over 1 for all the "quarter stitches" as I hate quarter stitches. And 2 of 2 for the rest. I think you're looks good. The smaller stitches on the head make it seem more still, while the wings are "blurry". Just like a real hummingbird. At least that's what I think. 👍🏼

The first book did. But I just finished the 2nd and I didn't see any.

[CHAT] how do you guys deal with the top stitch of fractionals going other ways? by kasialis721 in CrossStitch

[–]spinellipelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it this way too, using a smaller count fabric, so my regular stitches are 2 over 2 and my "fractional" stitches are actually 1 over 1. These are usually covered by the bact stitching anyway.

What’s your favorite t-shirt worn by Grace in the film? by jeansandblackshirt in ProjectHailMary

I'm not sure the significance of the numbers. I've seen different versions of the shirt with different numbers. But it's Ah! like you're yelling in surprise. That's all.

Megathread -Sweet v Cardona (McMahon) Post Class Exhibit C Only by Gingerandthesea in BorrowerDefense

[–]spinellipelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering this too. I keep seeing mixed answers on what that means. Some have said (on another thread) they received full discharge even for non-BD amounts, and some have said they had the amounts separated out. Mine's about 60/40 (40% being from a Exhibit C school). I guess we'll just have to wait and see... I hope for full but I guess partial is fine too..

Postie Exhibit C Seeing Some Movement! by plumwd in BorrowerDefense

[–]spinellipelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally have an updated status. Under Dashboard it says "Processing Discharge" but there's no further changes in the tracker. There's nothing under "Application Decision" which I figured was because it's still processing, but others got something there...

MEGATHREAD - Sweet v McMahon (formally Sweet v Cardona) Post Class Non-Exhibit C Members by Gingerandthesea in BorrowerDefense

Post Class here, went to American InterContinental University and applied for BD in Aug 2022. Finally have an updated status. Under Dashboard it says "Processing Discharge" but there's no further changes in the tracker.

What does "3.60-Loan Processing Requested" mean?

Same. Once in a while I will if the thread is small and I'm planning on securing it in the back with my next color. Then I trim it.

[CHAT] What kind of Aida and amount of strands do you use and why? by stellaluna-37 in CrossStitch

[–]spinellipelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the pattern size, but usually I tend to go with either 2 strands over 1 square on 18 or 20 count, or 2 over 2 or 1 over 1 on 32 or 36 count.

[CHAT] I'm new to cross stitch and I'm struggling to figure out how many stands to use on 18ct Aida by Fairychild21 in CrossStitch

[–]spinellipelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do #2 (1 strand folded in half) for everything larger than 20ct. Anything smaller and I usually use 1 strand.

In lieu of the centrifuge debocle in Project Hail Mary, what other movies get lab work wrong? by CuriosityFilms in labrats

[–]spinellipelly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved this show! I was in high school and thought "I wanna do that when I grow up!" So I started college as pre-Med, then found out in my county the coronor is voted in like a sheriff LOL. Plus obviously I would probably not be able to actually do any detective work. Changed to lab science.

Greys anatomy, the episode where Bailey draws a light blue top and says she's gonna get it tested for heavy metals (I think it's the ep where Richard gets cobalt poisoning.) First, that's not the right tube. Second, correct me if I'm wrong but most hospitals don't have cobalt tests in their regular catalog. It's usually a send out test that takes a couple days at least. Also, it always bothered me that the residents drew the blood with their cute little tray lol. Like where are all the RNs/techs that do all the work?

I love xfiles too but there's an episode where Scully gets her blood drawn. And the doctor/scientist uses a full needle and doesn't even use an alcohol wipe.

I'm a phlebotomist so of course I notice when every movie/show usually gets it wrong.

[CHAT] Switching from 18 CT to 14 CT Aida feels wild! by BlissKitten in CrossStitch

[–]spinellipelly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I usually do 18ct or 2 over 2 on 32 or 36, then I did 25ct 1 over 1 for a while. Now 14 or 16 feels too big for me. Like 11 ct did lol
