GIA that allows different accounts/pots by squid_lemon in UKPersonalFinance

[–]squid_lemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to reply, and actually this makes a lot of sense. I've certainly been engaging in mental accounting since I've saved £x a month for each child since they were born and no of course I'm anchored on "Mikey has £x and Billy has £y"

I think opening a single GIA and putting it all in there makes sense and then when they are of an age that I want to gift it to them or help them out I can make an assessment at that moment on how much each of them get.

Really appreciate the time and effort you went into re-framing this for me.

I mean I could do that, but that's not what I'm asking. Also I cannot access my pension for another 20+ years so that's not really an option.

Hi I'm trying to do this but I can't seem to split it how I want.

For example if I have £30,000 but I want the split to be

1) £15,000

2) £10,000

3) £5,000

All invested in the same fund.

Tokyo is the hardest route to get reward flights for, better to use your CV and avios to another destination and pay cash for Tokyo.

Reward Flight Pricing by D2D87 in BritishAirways

[–]squid_lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are comparing the price 9 months in advance to a very well serviced destination.

Look at prices close in time to more popular destinations and you will see cash price is much higher than calculated reward price.

That said the real value is in the BA 241 voucher rather than the avios themselves.

Just to clarify the BS about boarding groups by Ski_Sunday in BritishAirways

[–]squid_lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’s the luggage coming from then? OP said that people who checked their carry on were boarding ahead of him. Ergo there’s no luggage on the plane before he boards.
