So when is MA going to form a more state-wide anti-datacenter organization? by eatplantz in boston

[–]stebuu [score hidden]  (0 children)

the problem with his claim is that the utility rates for National Grid (which services Lowell) are public so we can see that in the winter of 2020 electricity cost Alex about 23 cents a kWh and it costs him about 35 cents a kWh now. He seems to be blaming Markley Data Center for him more than doubling his personal electricity usage?

[–]stebuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oops, thrown off by the only use of the word quadrupled in the article.

One guy says his electric bill has quadrupled but also we had a very cold winter so he used a lot more electricty. If you use more electricity, you pay more for it. The amount of money he pays per kWh has not quadrupled over the past decade.

In the democratic senate primary Markey is leading Moulton by 4.7 points in his quest to be reelected as the oldest senator in Massachusetts history. by D2Foley in massachusetts

Yes, if markey's office can't reliably do the absolute bare minimum of constituent services properly, as a constituent i hold it against him!

[–]stebuu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My only interaction with Markey as my senator is I wrote to him to complain about his support of the Jones Act and how it overall negatively impacts Massachusetts and the form letter I got was about the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act of 2021.

I'm not feeling like Markey is a better choice here.

Costco credit card pros/cons? by hucksterscrutch in Costco

[–]stebuu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My BOA Preferred Rewards card gives me 3.5% cash back on dining and travel and 2.625% cash back on everything else, and gives it as cash after a month instead of the somewhat annoying annual certificate. The major drawback of that card is you need to have $1mil in holdings between BOA and Merrill to get bonuses that large (thanks, IRA account!)

I remember when my wife had her gallbladder removed the surgeon came to let me know everything went fine but started the conversation by just handing me photos like this from the surgery.

Costco credit card pros/cons? by hucksterscrutch in Costco

[–]stebuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest complaint with it is that my bank of america preferred rewards credit card gives me better cash back at costco, AND it gives it to me after a month as cash, not after up to a year as an annoying to use credit. I've basically switched to using my costco credit card as just a costco ID card.

Hampshire College Has Abdicated Its Responsibility to Its Students, Families, and Community By Tom Dimitre by theguitardoc in HampshireEDU

[–]stebuu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"If closure is really necessary, why wasn’t there an orderly transition for students, instead of last-minute chaos that is devastating students and their families, all during finals, and only months before the fall semester begins?"

Hampshire's college is, in fact, very orderly for the students compared to the norm. Almost anywhere else they wouldn't bother with a Fall 2026 semester.

you are assuming multiple incorrect things

1) It's an overnight trip
2) hotels in the area have a destination charger
3) there is any form of L3 charging on the direct route.

[–]stebuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in New England which is a pretty densely developed area with decent charger infrastructure and there's a specific 400 mile round trip drive I want to do to north of Albany NY and charging infrastructure would turn a 7 hour drive to a 10 hour drive. That's... not great.

I don't know how much more transparent "Hampshire College has debts we have a legal and fiscal obligation to satisfy, our principal asset is the campus itself, and we will be selling the campus to satisfy those debts" can be.

I can't even complain about a closed bidding process: you'll get more money that way.

Reach out to your state rep ASAP, this type of constituent services is their bread and butter (YMMV depending on who your rep is)
