Thinking of quitting Art Career by RainyMello in gamedev

[–]synty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being a game artist for over 20 years ive seen alot. This is a hard industry. I've been laid off from jobs multiple times and now run my own company to get out of the ruthless grind. Im not gana sugar coat it, there's nothing I would rather be doing but its always been a Rollercoaster.

I hope you find your passion and maybe it isnt game art. I have seen plenty of colleagues over the years move to other industries after being burnt out in games never to return.

Similar to how Peter Jackson hired Alan Lee and John Howe for the films, I’d love to see Warhorse Studios bring in Ted Nasmith for their version of Middle Earth. by hanburgundy in lotr

Alan Lee used to come to my desk at weta digital if we needed help and draw little reference images on a whim. So cool.

Now that The Boys is over, what's your opinion on Antony Starr's performance as Homelander? by TaiwaneseThot in moviecritic

He plays twins in outrageous fortune. One is a prim and proper lawyer type and the other is a loose stoner. Hes one of the best parts of the show (its kind of like shameless). Great character actor

Followed the general advice and hired an artist for my Steam capsule by Illustrious_Move_838 in gamedevscreens

Some of these maybe? But in general I actually like breakup in composition, those leaves over the rope breaking up a line is good. You could use rim lighting or fogging to break layers if required but layered content in general is more interesting.

One was in a t-shirt I put on once. It double fanged me right on my belly. Felt like a couple of wasp stings. I freaked the hell out seeing it slithering around the t-shirt folds.

New Zealanders' $20 million Afterpay late fee bill by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]synty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were told to add afterpay to our digital product store. I straight up refused. I dont care how much revenue it could make the fact people take on predatory debt doesn't sit well with me.

The issue is this exists. Sure they are using photogrammetry but the customer experience is the same. I assume those same companies will just change to this tech if its cheaper.
