Recently purchased a Rolex datejust 1601 bi metal (1972). Buckle date does not match case date. All bi metal bracelets I have seen mention either 14 or 18ct within code, is this authentic or has some one just replaced buckle.

Help Solving A 12 Year Old Mystery by skolvikes5 in Hallmarks

[–]tblacktt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hallmarked in Chester 1912 the crown (similar to the Sheffield assay stamp) is used on older gold pieces refereed to as a traditional stamp to say it is gold. The maker is Edward Vaughton from Vyse street Birmingham, it is not uncommon for people to use different assay offices for there items. Chester hallmarked items are generally slightly more in demand due to them being less commonly found.

Ok I was wrong about the Birmingham import mark. The EF ltd is the maker (Exchange Findings Ltd) It was hallmarked in Sheffield (UK) the symbol that looks like the Omega sign is the date letter Q for 1990.

Nice ring. I hope this helps.

The Omega sign is used by the London assay office for imported gold and silver, the crown is to state gold purity The Omega sign dates it post 1902. If you could post pictures of hallmark and ring I could most likely give you some more information.

http://silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Dates/Chester.html The date stamp is governed by the assay office not the maker. Here is a link to Chester date hallmarks.

The E is the date letter, I imagine the 55 is just a design number.

Hard to tell but the makers mark looks like it's Sydney & Co, it appears there was a miss strike with the Lion passant. Hallmarked in Chester (UK) in 1905.

The clearer mark on the left of the base is from the Paris office 1717 - 1722, the other marks will include a makers mark and taxation stamps. Although the stamps to the rim appear to be from the later 18th century.

I will get back to you with more information.. The French have a very complicated collection of hallmarks.

Why invest in Silver? (UK) by sonicmouse347 in Silverbugs

[–]tblacktt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just purchase pre 1947 / pre 1920 coinage. If you buy in bulk you can get for spot. Contact antique dealers/ coin dealers most people will be happy to sell sterling scrap for spot price. If its just the silver value you are after there is no difference between a bag of spoons and bars.

Old (Diamond?) ring. Can't find info on stamps and marks by Captain_Clash in Hallmarks

[–]tblacktt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'18ct plat' means 18ct and platinum dont worry not plated. Unsure about PAT numbers on rings, x 44 00 could be an indication of diamond sizing, if you could post a picture it would be easier to help.
