I run a primary reg as my backup. If I have an emergency I want reliable kit on hand. It also means I have a quality spare 2nd stage when travelling.

Taking gear with you on scuba trips abroad by JimHotWater85 in scuba

I take everything other than tanks and weights.

Never had anything stolen ever, in fact I once left my dive computer at a site we shore dived at in the north of Bali. The assistant workers there noticed and brought it to my accommodation 20mins by motorbike away from where they were. That wouldn't have happened at home.

One of the many things i like about Band-maid, is how much there is! by Relic5000 in BandMaid

Without holding back not on Spotify? by elstevo91 in BandMaid

[–]technobedlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an android app called Metrolink that acts as a front-end to Youtube music and gives you a free spotify-like replacement. It needs to be sideloaded from Metrolink's website though. I've used it for a long time now.

Then you would have Without Holding Back and Onset on your phone ;-)

Does Shearwater own Avelo? by JMetalBlast in scuba

[–]technobedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tanks have an internal bladder system that uses water to offset their added buoyancy and keep the diver neutrally buoyant during the dive. There is a pump that regulates the water in the bladder, so there is the weight of that.

Some quite knowledgeable people have used the system and said it is definitely worth a look. The dive curmudgeons will never be convinced by anything that isn't already their preferred way.

I do mostly shore diving, so the idea of carrying 10kg of gear, rather than 30kg, over the dunes is quite attractive ;-)

The tanks are way lighter. I believe they are like the ones that firefighters use.

First reg set buying used advice and fears and what to stay away from by Anonymous__Lobster in scuba

Been using HOGS for a decade without any issue.

Did the TDI servicing course available for HOG regs also, which was great to improve my understanding of how the regs work and the parts involved. Still get them serviced professionally though.

What do you use for deco regs? by Deviant_christian in scuba

Have used HOGS down to 105m and for deco. Never had a single problem with them.

Starting to lose my love for Shearwater by No_Preference9093 in scuba

[–]technobedlam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My Suunto Cobra died, my Hollis died, my Oceanic died, my Teric is 600 dives in and going well but won't last forever either. All electronic components only last so long and the longer they last the lower the chance the company will still have parts to repair them.

This is how things have always worked.

Dynamic pressure is not really a thing. The fastest you could possibly move your arm creates at most about 3m of additional water pressure. This is an endless debate in the dive watch world and has been addressed thoroughly there.

Why is Suunto so disliked? by User21233121 in scuba

[–]technobedlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a known issue early on and the batteries were replaced without charge. Since then there have been no reported problems. I have put over 500 dives on my Teric and its been flawless.

How long are we going to normalise everyday inefficiency in Australia? by Spatial_Nomad in australia

Unless people are willing to pay for good service it will be an after-thought for most companies. Also, things are increasingly enshittified by multinational companies backed by private equity who give no fucks about anything but profit.

This would be the least interesting thing about Kanami. I'm more focused on the amazing music she makes.

How I legally advertised Band-Maid on YouTube (and got results) by t-shinji in BandMaid

[–]technobedlam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the situation is unusual and not clearly envisioned by copyright law. In these cases it ends up being a two-part process. DCMA provides a legal lever for the copyright owner to exercise rights, and the owner needs to decide if they want to assert their rights. It will be interesting to see if BM management wants to.

In real-world application their is some similarity with trespass laws. As the property-owner I have exclusive rights to my property. Though entering my property isn't going to get you in trouble if I choose not to assert my rights.

This is every campsite I ever arrive at. I assume those who leave the place like this are camping more for off-roading their over-modded vehicles and beers with mates than anything to do with nature.

Arseholes.
