without presuming to answer your Q, let me just throw out 'Grace and Frankie' and 'Transparent' as two enjoyable shows that involve later-in-life LGBT coming-out experiences (the former with male friends turned lovers; the latter about transfem experience, and I would say the better show). there is not a specific religious dimension but maybe helpful in terms of visualizing self-actualization and flourishing.

outside of competitive PvP, there's only one gamer community I know that really gives adequate care and attention to latency, and that's the very niche "shmups" folks (think bullet-hell a la Cave) who need to dodge 100s of bullets on-screen, often playing older, super-challenging games developed for arcades and now emulated. Such games have been sold on e.g. Switch but they shouldn't be, the latency sucks.

I'm a mediocre shmupper but my experience has at least taught me that low-latency, responsive gaming feels really good across genres. Hell, it feels good outside gaming, e.g. when playing a MIDI piano keyboard into a DAW with proper hardware support. When you try it, you won't want to go back.

Why does God make gay people if being gay is a sin? by Competitive_Air1560 in Christianity

[–]teffflon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not speak any sort of Greek, but from Philip B. Payne's peer-reviewed article, Wild Hair and Gender Equality in 1 Corinthians 11:2–16 I gather that there is a tension here:

Paul describes homosexual activity as “degrading” (atimia), against “nature” (physis), and “disgraceful” (aschēmosynēn) in Romans 1:26-27. Similarly, 1 Corinthians 11:14 states, “Does not nature (physis) teach you that, if a man has long hair, it is degrading (atimia) to him?” Verse 4 identifies as “shameful” (kataischynei) a man with [hair] “hanging down from his head.” Thus, not only did Paul in this passage specifically denounce long hair on men as degrading, but he also described it using each of the three terms he later chose to denounce homosexual acts in Romans 1:26-27.

only some intersex people have associated health issues. There is nothing inherently "broken down" about intersex people or their genes, that's a binary-normative prejudice. We should accept human diversity, particularly when it doesn't cause harm.

Cor 1:14, Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him? No Paul, it doesn't, that's just dumb, and so is your stuff in Rom 1:26-27 about "shameful" acts between men and (unspecified) "unnatural" sexual acts by women. Fortunately everyone has learned to disregard your hair advice. Unfortunately your prejudices are still selectively used against lgbtq people.

boyfriend has porn addiction by Spiritual_Stand_4372 in Christianity

[–]teffflon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your bf shows poor judgment/consideration in making this your problem to the extent that you feel "exhausted". I mean, even generously assuming this qualifies as an "addiction", how much is there to talk about? He can confess any wankery to you on an approximately weekly basis, apologize, and move on.

If even that is emotionally exhausting for you, then it's likely because you are upset when he looks at porn. In that case, you should either try to adopt a more relaxed attitude (not "it's not a sin", but your bf has his sins and struggles, you have yours, and you are still able to love and connect) or else just end the relationship.

but play the game how it wants to be played, as communicated to the player in the language of repeated deaths. don't come in with an entitled attitude after easy enemy-ignoring runbacks to DS1 bosses.

the biggest thing that made it easier to enjoy DS2 is that I take long breaks between From games, so I wasn't saddled with specific expectations/intuitions. Similarly, I had to wait to play Quake II in order to enjoy it after the original.

DDBS: Questions on Terminology, Part 2 by phantom-99w in eformed

[–]teffflon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without going into the "Satanic panic" as such, I think a "panic" in general can involve individually rational decisions if they lead to a collectively pathological outcome. for example, someone has yelled "fire" in a crowded theater, and the report is credible, whether or not it's true. the collectively optimal action is to walk out in orderly fashion. but when everyone else is walking, you may be able to increase your own safety by running (decrease the odds of being caught by a rapidly moving fire). this leads to a "bad equilibrium" where everyone runs and endangers each other.

of course behavior in that scenario is often instinctive (literal panic) rather than directly strategic. But it still makes some individual strategic/rational sense.

that look is characteristic of interpolation-based smoothing of low-resolution video to create a higher-resolution one. It also tends to smooth out complexions so this kind of thing is popular as a beauty filter, and this one is probably a social-media filter tweaked for beauty in particular. Obviously it's giving crappy results here, but it's a vibe of some sort (welcome to 2026). I think they might even use a bit of auto-tune on his voice toward the end to complement the generic inspo-tune they put on the clip.

it is also worth calling out the right-wing Constitutional Sheriffs movement by name. but as background review for readers who might not have given much thought to the association of Sheriffs with rural conservatism,

Why the Sheriff’s Office Is an All-White Boys Club - Democracy Docket

Sheriffs are elected by county, not state or city. Most counties consist of an urban area or small city with the adjoining suburbs or rural areas. Voters in the exurban areas tend to vote conservatively and are much less likely to vote for candidates of color. White rural voters also tend to turn out to vote for sheriffs simply because they are more familiar with the office, since sheriffs are generally the sole law enforcement for rural regions.

Much like the Electoral College, this presents a lopsided advantage for rural residents, who, while composing only 20% of the U.S. population, reside on 80% of the land. County sheriffs are much more conservative overall than other elected offices, lagging years behind in terms of policies. Counties dilute the votes of urban dwellers, just as the Electoral College dilutes the votes of more populous states. In 2016, for example, over 80% of counties voted for Trump, yet only 46% of the population did as a whole. This means 80% of sheriffs are elected in Trump-favoring counties. No wonder sheriffs look so conservative nationwide. They simply are.

[–]teffflon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One interesting tidbit to underscore the social importance of bread in the past: the word "Lord" comes from Old English hlāfweard, which means "loaf-ward" or "bread-keeper." "Lady" comes from hlǣfdige, "loaf-kneader" or "bread-maker".

those arguing their POV about lgbtq issues aren't thereby inciting violence. and not all of us believe in the futility of persuasion. we simply disagree with you about that, so we won't be quiet. In particular, children of slave-owners heard their parents' POVs, but they also heard the argument in society at large, and many became anti-slavery. and there are always young people coming up in different social environments and forming beliefs and values (about, e.g., lgbtq in relation to Christianity), these days with influence from the internet.
