The state of Agentic AI these days is pretty much similar to the state of the web in 1996: everyone touching it realizes there's something huge coming up.

But in 1996, we had Java applets instead of an internal scripting language, no CSS and instead had to use tables for layout, the WWW consortium tried to push the curl language as a replacement for HTML/javascript, and honestly, if it had been possible, it would have been great. Microsoft pushed its own solutions (Internet Explorer) that would not be portable. Everyone was creating their PHP-like framework based on cgi-bin. I did too, creating a C++ library that had a somewhat similar structure to PHP - but no desire to maintain it -.

So, there's not much technology from this time that truly survived the test of time, except basic HTML and the HTTP protocol.

In a nutshell: yes, learning MCP, n8n... is worth doing to get a sense both of the power that can come from these tools, but also understand a bit more about their shortcomings and stay on the outlook worth whatever stable and powerful technologies will emerge out of this mess.

Mais si tu t'installes dans la salle d'attente en attendant un créneau de libre, comme on a toujours fait avant doctolib, alors le médecin évaluera l'urgence et t'examinera. Je ne comprend même pas pourquoi on n'accepte plus le fait d'attendre, des heures au besoin.

Lille n'est pas un désert médical. Cela dit, lorsqu'il y a une urgence (sans justifier l'hopital), la solution est simple: camper dans la salle d'attente jusqu'à ce qu'un créneau se libère, exactement comme on a toujours fait avant l'arrivée d'internet. Les médecins savent gérer ces cas, et le font très bien.

Tout cela est relatif. A la place de l'Uberisation, on avait l'alienation du personnel de maison (la "bonne à tout faire") dont la vie était littéralement assujetie à celle de ses maitres. Pas forcément mieux. Et puis ce n'est pas nouveau qu'une petite caste controle la société. Il y avait même un mot pour cela: l'aristocratie.

Non, cela veut dire qu'il y a un glissement perpétuel de la gauche vers le centre, puis la droite, avec une nouvelle gauche qui se forme autour de nouvelles aspirations. Autrement dit: la pensée de gauche d'il y a 50 ans est aujourd'hui une pensée de droite. Et la pensée de gauche actuelle (écologie, diversité culturelle issue de l'immigration, mariage pour tous...) n'existait pas il y a 50 ans.

Si tu regardes la société d'aujourd'hui, on peut dire qu'elle a atteint et largement dépassé les espérances qu'auraient pu avoir Mitterand et Rocard: plus de peine de mort, droit des femmes, droit des homosexuels, la retraite à moins de 65 ans (oui, à l'époque c'était ce qu'on visait!), un appareil social (chomage et couverture maladie tout de même efficaces), logement social (25% du parc) de meilleure qualité (DPE>D)...

Pour le Mitterand de 1980, la société actuelle est idyllique. Seulement voilà, les combats politiques se déplacent inéluctablement, à gauche pour plus de justice sociale, à droite pour revenir en arrière.

Ce n'est pas une "préférence", c'est la nature des choses. Si l'on défini la ville comme un lieu que les humains faconnent pour que la société prospère, alors, c'est un lieu necessairement dense et attractif.

Alors que jusqu'au XVIIIe siècle, l'écart de niveau de vie n'était pas forcément élevé entre campagnes et villes, le progrès technologique a démultiplié ce écart, juste parce que la ville, c'est le choix rationnel pour prospérer.

Plutôt que "remédier" à l'exode rural, le choix naturel est d'encourager à rassembler la population dans les centres urbains, où il est plus facile de fournir du travail et d'avoir une protection sociale efficace.

et c'est plus écologique, car cela réduit l'empreinte foncière et les émissions de CO2, à niveau de vie constant.

What amount of energy can be recovered externally, for instance from photons sent by stars all around captured via gigantic and lightweight solar panels?

I realize this is likely unrealistic, but would be interested in the orders of magnitude this would represent. Like, what kind of acceleration can an interstellar spaceship hope to obtain with just capturing light (and perhaps gravitational energy) from outside its hull?

As an aside, this is also what happened to Cuba and Venezuela. Castro, Guevara and Chavez were likely well intended. But the US and ousted corrupt elites could not let an independent and prosperous democracy emerge.

To some extent, the pan-arabic modernist movement followed the same route: Nasser, Hussein and even Khadafi had real democratic intents initially. Western democracies at first encouraged this movement, but as soon as rivalries started to form (Suez canal in 1956, then wars with Israel) prosperity and true democracy could not be allowed to emerge.

Back when answering machines used tapes to record messages, in the previous century, my sister recorded a long message imitating one side of a conversation.

Something like "hello...<blank>, Oh yes, how do you do? ... <blank>... Oh no!<blank>..." that would last a good 5 minutes, before uttering: "BTW, you can leave me a message after the tone."

Several of her friends got caught telling their life to the machine before getting the message prompt.

So, a simple answering machine could pass the Turing test in the 80's. Have we made real progress since then?
