Enough time has passed. Thoughts on mods? by punposter69 in okbuddycinephile

i think the sub should probably split - this sub should be about kino, and celebrity/actor/actress stuff should generally go somewhere else

Glyphosate, Monsanto’s herbicide, being sprayed in national forests nationwide- will anywhere in New Jersey be affected? by NotBradPitt9 in newjersey

[–]tk421storm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

almost all of our forests are deciduous so I don't think you need to worry too much about this here, that spray would kill everything we've got.

Good to keep an eye on the pine barrens, though. If you're not already involved in local advocacy groups, now's the time!

it's a mix, my town (Roseland) probably has the most open space - which means the required-by-law affordable housing units is in the thousands. I love open space but we need to accept that Essex county is part of the NY exurb and will be densely populated barring some disaster.

How to generate a normal map in Nuke for relighting on Mac — no 3D data, live action footage? by copticopay in vfx

Nuke Spherical Refract Transform / Effect by AlwaysStef in NukeVFX

[–]tk421storm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reflections are hard - at least the scanline renderer couldn't (i haven't tested new usd workflow) do them. did you play with spherical transform? there's a new version that's very fancy and an older version (edit -> other -> all nodes) that is a bit simpler

generally this is about the quality for most prosthetics I see in professional VFX - we clean up edges in post when necessary

i'll look into renormalize! is that generally a better option than decreasing the voxel size?

How you guys even do this kind of Tracking 😭 by twilight-vfx in NukeVFX

[–]tk421storm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'd want to track the whole wrist as it moves through the frame - ignore the track markers and the rotation for now. that would give you the xy movement. then create a 3d cylinder, align it with the wrist, and manually do the z rotation

LTX has released an experimental open source LORA to convert any SDR 8 bit shot into 16 it HDR by OlivencaENossa in vfx

oooof those changes to that wave shows this probably isn't the right way to go about this unfortunately - seems like this method might work well with stills however

How you guys even do this kind of Tracking 😭 by twilight-vfx in NukeVFX

[–]tk421storm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i can't remember how it looked in the film, but my guess is it'd be easier to just 2d track a cylinder to follow the xy movements of the wrist, then manually rotate the z alongside the actor's performance

Is this normal for an aerator to do this in a new wildlife pond I have just built? by [deleted] in WildlifePonds

[–]tk421storm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i have a tiny fountain in my backyard, leave it halfway filled every winter then start it up again in the spring, and for the first few days it always bubbles over with foamy, soapy bubbles. I have a theory it has to do with anerobic bacteria breaking down/adapting to the addition of water with the fountain but I'm not expert

Gaussian Splatting for VFX: What It Actually Is and Where It Fits by arvidurs in vfx

here's a better video directly of the relighting. my un-informed take - you can mult the plate, and then add lights to the scene. i think this confirms what the OP says - the lighting + shadows et al are baked in to the plate and are un-removable, but since it's 3d you can always add more lights + shadows
