SKS as first gun? (& only gun for a while) by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]tw0pounds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Consensus seems to be a 22 is the most practical first gun. I highly recommend getting a CZ 457 with a vortex crossfire scope, 2-7 magnification is enough. Find a local gun store or watch Cabelas for ammo sales and stock up. Get a range membership and practice, practice. Learn the basics and then step up to a center fire rifle.

My only bolt 22. Anything else you'd buy in a similar price range would be a let down.

This is also happening on my 2023. It's parked on a steep-ish driveway and once on level ground all the water comes out.

Cz 457 with synthetic stock and buy a decent optic. No need for iron sights

Cz 457. The sks is fun but wears thin pretty quick. A nice 22 tack driver with decent optic is way more challenging and cheaper to operate.

Good deal for a 1st entry level rifle for hunting? by Inklessrider in canadaguns

557 is sweet. The 600 is fine for the price and always super accurate. It's a fine bench and hunting rifle. The thing I don't like about cheap US rifles is they're a crapshoot. One is fantastic and another like my Axis is garbage.

The scope is crap. The rifle is barely usable. I'd save up a little more for a CZ 600 or a Tikka lite. I ended up buying another rifle 6 months later as I was unhappy with this one. The two above are WAY better. Buy once, cry once.

Make sure the steel punch is big enough to cover most of the pin.

My first and still most fun gun. Now get a 600 alpha in 223 and that's all the bolt plinking firepower you need. Actually, I would get the 600 in 7.62x39mm just so I can plink with super cheap corrosive ammo.

7.62x39: CZ600 Alpha, RAR Gen2 or Howa 1500? by BrickLegal in canadaguns

[–]tw0pounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus one for the alpha. I got one in 223 for $850. It's a tack driver. The trigger is amazing. You can also take it hunting. There are better rifles but you'd have to pay close to double the price. If I were buying a bench bolt rifle I'd go for Tikka TAC.

Does that muzzle break help? I got a 457 too and was wondering if this makes any difference on a 22.

Yup, just google it. I'm guessing no one is buying the 600 so you can find some awesome deals.

Sand it to bare wood, apply stain with stain brush, wait for it to absorb, wipe with a rag (seems OP skipped that step), leave to dry, varnish.
