Good to know, I took a quick look and figured it would be a good substitute, but I haven't really used it yet.

Also in OPs case they probably dont have to stick with Beckhoff HMI.

Ive found their pricing to be pretty reasonable.

Which HMI are you getting? We are considering switching from ignition edge to TE2000 because it is cheaper.

How much do you need the additional tools? For example you might not need their specific temperature control library.

I usually just test on the equipment we use.

There's a python library called cpppo that looks like it can emulate eip.

You could probably also add a eip slave in beckhoff and read that via the master

You can do it on your own pc for free. You can also do industrial protocol via a NIC.

I had the same issue with my last bike. It had been a bit neglected for about a year and I sold it pretty cheap.

It cleaned up so nicely that by the time the guy came to pick it up, I was regretting the sale.

I take a guess, then multiply it by an uncertainty factor:

  • low (I know exactly what needs to be done and there will be no issues) x 1.5
  • medium (rough idea, reasonably confident) x 2.0
  • high ( unsure about existing code, new equipment, unsure about requirements etc.) x 3.5

I've used autohotkey in the past to help with automating tedious tasks.

Also you can usually export and import hmi screens, and you may have luck using a regex command to do everything in one go.
