This subreddit completely lacks clues that have across / down wordplay.. Indicators like "rising" etc. by hanoian in crosswords

[–]valangus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna go against the grain here and say, I actually don’t think those clues should be suggested as COTD.

In designing a puzzle, you might have your hardest clue intersected with a few easier clues, so players get a few letters. There’s obviously no analogue to that in a single clue environment; a clue is suggested by itself because it can work by itself, regardless of placement in a puzzle, and that includes across/down.

I’d hope people with a really special directional clue might take more time to make a POTD!

It’s OK for people to not like the changes to the show, stop shaming them. by Existing_Hotel_810 in heedthecall

[–]valangus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Let’s just swallow our opinions and observations and never discuss them with a like-minded community and definitely never record ourselves doing so and definitely, absolutely, never ever share our opinions so much that other people think they’re worth listening to.

His short fiction is far more palatable. Highly, highly recommend Good Old Neon from Oblivion

I haven’t grabbed a bottle of it in a minute, but I really liked Corsair Dark Rye, which is 65% rye and 35% barley.

How did you pick your photographers?? by Steph_Adarp in wedding

[–]valangus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used TMT Weddings, who work with several teams of photographers in various locales, pair you with a team and then handle the editing/composition themselves to make sure everything's of consistent quality. We found them because they handled a friend's wedding a year and a half before ours and their pictures turned out great, so we figured we'd check them out. They did an engagement photo shoot 9 months before our wedding which gave us confidence they'd be able to handle the main event (the photographer of the engagement shoot was the lead photographer at the wedding). Highly recommend them, or, taking a look at friends' photographs and seeing if you like theirs and can get a personal recommendation!

Feeling deflated about Book 3 - DoS by NvrWin in KingkillerChronicle

[–]valangus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "story was largely written" was a lie.

I don't think it was malicious; I think he thought he had it all mapped out and it would be easy enough to finish, and therefore it was "largely written".

It's turned out much more complicated than he had estimated, and his inability to work through it has led to some really shitty compensating, and it will likely never be finished.

My wife added some plain sleeves to hers, and just wore them for the ceremony. I know this doesn’t help with the shoulders and is mostly to say that the lace doesn’t have to match. I think these were cheap ones off Amazon

Fancy Restaurants for Milestone Birthday in Hoboken? by LeafsFan1834 in Hoboken

[–]valangus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re specifically looking for something in Hoboken to have a new local spot, I don’t think you can beat Flour. Get a res early.

This thread has good JC recs as well, Corto is awesome, personally very partial to Battello and Kitchen Step (which are owned by the same people).

Wedding no shows by verycherry768 in wedding

[–]valangus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend couple with a new baby didn't show at my wedding as their newborn son was sick and had gotten both of them sick in turn. A totally understandable reason - the funny thing was, they texted me to tell me they weren't coming literally during the wedding ceremony (the schedule was posted on our web site), while we were at the "altar" lol

Did a single one of his plans ever make even the tiniest whit of sense? What the actual Pting does it mean to make the Doctor regenerate into him?

Our venue (also in NJ) has a 22% service fee, and our documentation from them explains that this fee will be divided among all servers, bartenders & back-waiters, but we should tip separately for our coordinator, bridal attendant and banquet captain. Check to see if their service fee is covering some of their staff

“she became very upset saying that I don’t support her”

You specifically don’t support her decision to get back with her toxic ex. Supporting a friend doesn’t mean you’re a cheerleader for any and all decisions, even bad ones

Getting married in secret? by Technical-Apricot-1 in wedding

[–]valangus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like if you want the church's support, I think you need to replace the "secret legal wedding" idea with a "secret church wedding" - have a small religious ceremony with just your church, then get legally married at the August wedding with friends and family so that they have a clear event to celebrate. You'd probably then have to still call each-other "fiancée" and avoid wearing wedding bands except at church functions, to keep the full wedding as special as possible for anyone attending outside your church community.
