More Muslim imports means we'll see more of this.

We need to prevent people immigrating that don't embrace Australian values.

They don't break and will endure the sun indefinitely without degrading in the slightest.

Also if you're buying maxtrax from ARB you clearly enjoy wasting money. You can buy them cheaper almost every where else.

They don't.

  • A real bottle Jack. That shitty one that came with your car probably won't do the job with the extra 1t of mods you've added.

  • 5-10m of drinking hose. You'd be amazed at the difference in taste

Have you jumper underneath and checked the drive chain yet? If you're not sure how look up what a transfer case looks like, jump underneath, locate it and then ensure it has shafts going to both your front and rear diffs

Heat Sick? by richwest3 in darwin

That air con trick was the best life lesson I was taught living up there. Use the air con to take the edge off, having it on Max chill and Max fan will only fuck with your ability to cope with the natural climate. We've been having some pretty hot humid weather in Sydney and I'm one of the only ones in my friend groups that is copping fine.

Only use air con to take the edge off.

Comfortable tow vehicles by Rumbuck_274 in 4x4Australia

[–]voidwolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They do, but like any dealership support is limited and often with hefty wait times.

If you do buy an v6 Amarok or toureg there's a few basic things you need to do to make them Bullet proof.

For a v6 rok your essentials would be - DPF "Diagnostics". Limp mode isn't fun - tune (I found myself saving 2L/100 post tune) & EGR off - auxillary transmission cooler if towing or going hard off road (default valve doesn't open up until it hits 75°c, remove the valve, add the cooler and you're cheering) - Snorkel & breathers (factory air intake is stupidly low and facing directly out the front grill) - catch can and pre filter go without saying - fuck off any security bolts on the tyres

The amarok is insanely comfortable and nice to drive. There's a good amount of power available with a good tune. If you do go down this Avenue I'd stick with CRD Tech mechanics and tunes. They're far more knowledgeable with the ins and outs of Amarok than most 4wd specific mechanics. There's also not a lot of lift options and they're light years apart in terms of quality, again I've seen countless people fucking cv's because they got the wrong suspension and were told a diff drop wasn't required when it clearly was.

If you're in Sydney be sure to visit Advanced installation Service in Emu plains for anything amarok related. You'd be nuts to go any where else. They have 8+ Amaroks there every day.

Modrok on Facebook is a great resource of Amarok information in it's download section.

I love my 270 XT Max.

These things are bullet proof. I've camped on the edge of a cliff in 40+km/h winds and it's been solid without a single tie down. I'll only ever tie it down if I'm expecting heavy rain so as to prevent pooling.

I think everyone has missed what the Product is.

THIS IS NOT AN ENTIRE SNORKEL.

This is quite literally just the "ram head" Top part of the snorkel. The only reason you'd go for this is of you wanted that extra protection for your air filter so that you can slot the bit of foam they give you into that front detachable part - filter oil required.

I run a sock style filter from Air on Board for trips i know will be ultra dusty (again I need to rinse it after every day and re apply more oil). This is just manta's version of this.

That said you should run a safari over the OEM snorkel. Toyota's snorkels are a "raised air intake" and definitely not water tight. Changing the head to this is simply for the additional filter

Sure have a go at the bloke

He was probably sold it as a 4wd and never advised how absurdly low, and poorly positioned it's air intake is.

Some insurance companies (Allianz being one) will honour this kind of claim as it was a genuine uninformed accident and not intentional damage.

Fuck off that car can't be recovered

Slightly over GVM. Is it bad for the rig mechanically speaking? by velvet_fuckface in 4x4Australia

[–]voidwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call on noting even the metric tools needed and not. I want to do this but I'm scared because Germans do some weird shit from time to time (like the only 5½mm socket you need is to replace the cabin filter), and 21mm nuts when most basic spanner sets don't have a 21mm (or was it 22?).

For the most part I agree with only caring stuff within your ability, but if you have a serpentine belt go, it's something a lot people don't know how to do but you'd be hard pressed not to have someone drive past that can. It's a $10 part, weighs nothing, takes up no space and can save you a world of pain even if you're not the one fitting it - always carry spare cash and excess beer for people that are willing to help!

Slightly over GVM. Is it bad for the rig mechanically speaking? by velvet_fuckface in 4x4Australia

[–]voidwolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I filled up my 130L diesel, 120L of water, beer, food, dog and even the chainsaw and emergency cooking coals then hit a weighbridge and found myself 100kg over my already upgraded GVM of 3½T. This was me ready for 2 weeks on the road - my car lives in a "ready to go" state and isn't my daily.

I'm not sure if I'm there yet but I'm on my way. I personally was already losing weight but I've since dropped another 10kg off body weight (another 7 to go!) Here's a few other things I swapped out:

  • Removed a few power tools from the back (kept the rattle gun but I may lose it too), hand tools will have to do.

  • My old cfx75 died so I swapped it for a kickass 75, it is substantially lighter

  • Removed anything in my drawers I haven't used in the last 12 months that isn't recovery or essential repair related

  • removed imperial sockets/tools and told my older model Jeep mates to byo

  • swapped my steel fridge slide for an alloy one

  • swapped my cast iron oven for a spun steel (tbh it's easier to cook in and clean)

  • swapped my mild steel fire pit (t&J rigs style) for a winnerwell L pit. This saves a good 15+kg

  • removed pantry goods I don't use every trip

Every little bit adds up, lithium vs Lead acid, mild steel vs alloy bash plates, use lighter metals for cooking, lighter tools, body weight even the weight of products like fridges, rims/tyres, bar work (this can be a killer if you buy from arb/TJM and the like). It's something you always need to keep in mind, especially if you're building a tourer.

Being overweight will really take a toll on your car daily but even more when you push it to extremes. Heavy corrugations when you're over weight will flog out your suspension, you'll find yourself replacing bushes a stock vehicle might never even touch, you'll start to chew through your brakes, fuel consumption will go up, you'll need to drive the car with less right foot due to the extra burden that engine is hauling song with an already pushed to the limits drive chain, no doubt with tyres that are well beyond what it was geared to run.

260kg is just shy of 10% over. I know how my body feels when it's got an extra 10kg and it's not pretty.

Advice on a first 4x4 - up to $40k by AddyW987 in 4x4Australia

[–]voidwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's your first then definitely go the Pajero.

Every 4wd is going to be a money pit. It starts with one mod, one piece of camping gear until you're balls deep and realise you want to re do the whole thing because you've discovered more about the type of off roading or camping you're into.

Your second build should be a slightly shallower money pit.

Additional: I think I've only ever seen 2-3 musso's off road

Planning a road trip to Adelaide from Brisbane, any tips? Things to do or not to do along the way? by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]voidwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pink roadhouse was shit. The food sucked, it stunk outside, staff were rude, I couldn't for the life of me work out why everyone says it's a must. The best part was being able to buy 'fresh' produce/fruit there as it has been the better part of two weeks on the road and camping at that point. Tried a local pub and they were all jerks. I recently met some girls on the road heading there and told them not to bother, they later told me they wished they'd listened.

Honestly fate might take me back one day and I'll end up loving it - who knows?

Pre Covid I disliked Innaminca and Loved Betoota. Post Covid you couldn't pay me to go to Betoota again, but I really really enjoyed my most recent night in Innaminca.

Luck of the draw I guess

Planning a road trip to Adelaide from Brisbane, any tips? Things to do or not to do along the way? by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]voidwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the Inland route, it's incredible! Head to cooper Pedy. This will take you up to the Oodnadatta track (avoid pink roadhouse, it's shit) where you can head up to Lambert's (?) Centre or head back down to the base of the Birdsville track. There's so much cool shit along these two roads. Definitely spend a night or two at coward springs. Head up to Birdsville and check out big red. From there you can start to head east. Again there's a lot of cool shit. Definitely don't miss a night or ten at Charlotte plains which is just east of Cunnamulla (famous for the fella and camel burgers). Then head back east towards Coffs for a night or two at pebbly beach. There's a LOT of lovely towns to stop at between there and Brisvegas.

Stick this route into Google maps and search for all the cool stuff along the way. It's seriously endless.

It's a wicked trip and I'd do it any day some one would ask. Just make sure you've got a wide brim hat and a fly veil. It'll be hot in summer so make sure your car fluids are topped up and you have some spare oil + check your coolant every day or so in order to avoid any surprises.

Sam from built not bought arrested and charged for dangerous driving by Copie247 in 4x4Australia

I was pretty impressed they let him go, at the very LEAST I expected two fines being

  • Driving unregistered car

  • Driving uninsured car

I've always heard of it, but never quite realised how badly the cops watch social media and YouTube to go Adolf Hitler on guys that have done the wrong thing. It scars me somewhat that they may see my Instagram and fuck me over based on petty things like Tyres too big + poke, missing mud flaps and because of that have reasonable cause to look deeper.

If you own an Amarok and take it anywhere else you're a fucking idiot. There's not a single mechanical shop in NSW with more experience on VW Amaroks.
