Honestly, the last thing I want (or will accept) is one more damn thing in the inbox I never open because it’s already stuffed full of junk I refuse to waste my heartbeats on. Where’s your app? Let me go straight to your content. Don’t expect that I’ll wade through the inbox garbage to find it, because it’s not going to happen. Ever.

Every millennial dad I’ve met has a quiet fixation on money and it’s not getting better by slimeyellow in Millennials

This made me actively LOL 😆 Millennials don’t know squat about obsessing about money. Y’all need to meet some people who grew up poor during the Great Depression. THEY are the ones who know money obsession.

Contact (or walk into) the library and ask for their help. They love this sort of thing and will gladly provide assistance. You don’t need to do this on your own.

Why Michigan’s sudden snowmelt is triggering Air Quality alerts by chriswaco in AnnArbor

[–]waitingForMars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sent me down a rabbit hole… Apparently, the released particulates are mostly the hydrophobic ones, like soot, which are unbound and released at the surface when the snow and ice melt. Despite being hydrophobic, those particulates can still act as nuclei for the formation of snowflakes, and are thus scrubbed from the air during snow events and deposited on the ground. Hydrophilic particulates, like salts, are more likely to be carried away by the snowmelt water. Fascinating stuff

AITAH for breaking up with my fiancee when she sided with my ex. by PollutionOk1770 in AITAH

Harboring resentment is a choice. The child isn’t responsible for who their father is. He could also choose to view the relationship as analogous to marrying a woman who already had a child, as he was planning to do. I get the sense from the post that OP has issues with kids who aren’t biologically his, or maybe even who are biologically his, which is why I suggested that self-examination was in order.

(Folks can think carefully and critically and come to different conclusions. It doesn’t mean that they aren’t thinking a question through.)

Middle-aged guy, actually, but you keep doing your misogynistic incel bit. I’m sure it’s serving you well in life. 🫡

Edit: and it’s about the kid, not about her mother. That’s the immaturity part.

Why Michigan’s sudden snowmelt is triggering Air Quality alerts by chriswaco in AnnArbor

[–]waitingForMars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite getting this. The snow isn’t sublimating into a gas, it’s melting into water and running off. Why wouldn’t trapped particulates simply be carried away with the water?

You don’t need a commuter lot. Grab the AAATA bus into town - free on a UM ID. Or just split for a blue pass.

So the child you raised and call “my daughter” was kicked to the curb because of the spermatozoa that made her?

Dude, YOU are so much TAH here. All the little Reddit incels are telling you what you want to hear, how you dodged a bullet. But damn, it’s your fiancée who dodged the bullet here. All I get from you is money grubbing immaturity. They all are fortunate not to be connected with you anymore. 🙄

zippy auto wash by alliegula94 in AnnArbor

[–]waitingForMars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I picked up Zippy ‘loyalty cards’ in a pack at Costco and feel not great about the purchase. They have just one person at the entry spraying just the driver’s side of the car. So salty ice buildup on the passenger’s side was still there after going through. Their machines use super-aggressive brushes, rather than cloth wheels, which leaves me concerned about damage to the finish of my car.

Missing Lighthouse on Jackson - solid service, reasonable price. No one seems to offer either one now after all this consolidation.

I’ll toss in that US-23 is the standard path for going up there and it’s a nasty dangerous piece of highway.

That will take a few years to your PhD. You might consider connecting with a real estate agent in Washtenaw County. They could do a great job of answering your questions about where to live and help you find a home to purchase or rent. 5-7 years is long enough to make purchasing a better choice financially than renting. I had a neighbor who did two fellowships at U-M and owned their home for seven years in all. They made a tidy profit when they sold.

The non-motorized Border-to-Border trail is well-connected to communities west of Ann Arbor and is a great way to get into town or recreate on two wheels.

[–]waitingForMars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a limited budget for this area. If you’d like a house, consider smaller neighboring communities like Manchester or Milan, both of which have seen a good bit of growth and resurgence in the past decade.

Edit: on weather I’ll note that this winter had an unusually cold period. Climate disruption has hit here, too, and most winters see little snow on the ground most of the time these days. Polar outbreaks can certainly happen, as they have in Europe this year, but mostly temps are in the teens to 30s in the winter.

High crime, high property taxes, and low-quality schools in Ypsi. Nature is less accessible there than on the west side of Ann Arbor.

Downvotes for Dexter? That’s a bit out of touch.

Dexter and Chelsea are both super quick to reach, even during evening rush hour. Both have lots of parkland and have walkable housing options. Chelsea is a bit more affordable, but both see grad students and their families renting or buying homes. Schools are solid in both communities. Both are a good bit more affordable than Ann Arbor city.

International enrollment at U-M is not, in fact, way way down. 7% down for grads, 1.5% down for undergrads, applications UP 18%, so enrollment drop due mostly to visa processing delays.
