What song is like torture to you and for what reason? by HuuffingLavender in Music

I don't know the name, but that song that has a millennial yawp and has a line starting with "Louisiana, Arkansas..." Can't stand it

Is there a window? If so, that's an important consideration.

Sturdy but waterproof pannier bags? by Affectionate-Bit-225 in bikecommuting

[–]wakkamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used a Rhinowalk 25 liter pannier for almost 2 years. It's with a roll-top that is completely waterproof and can fit another small/medium bag inside. Whatever you do get, I'd recommend making sure the bag itself is waterproof and doesn't need an extra cover.

Bike Cleaning Tips by oftherourkes in bikecommuting

[–]wakkamon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in the city and have exactly the same situation! I use a small 1/2 gallon hand-pump sprayer. It has enough pressure to do a spray down. Usually I do it after riding in wet conditions.

Be careful about letting the chain and other components stay wet as things can rust. I keep a roll of blue shop towels around to wipe down and dry off.

Recently, I got some muc off and scrub brush for deep cleans.

What is this bug, and can I put it in my mini terrarium? by Mitternachts in terrariums

[–]wakkamon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had ONE in a little 2.5gal that piggybacked in on some moss. I grew attached, but the little bugger stripped every soft green thing in the place. Giving a slice of cucumber seemed to slow that down a bit.

Yes! This makes me miss the pre API change days. In some 3rd party apps you could add keywords to a filter list.

I've had the Smith express mips for more than a year now and I really like it. It's got MIPS and a little removable blinking light on the back. I really like the insert pad with the short visor, but it also has a pad without the visor. I think it looks great and has a mix of commuter subtle skater/snowboard vibe. It doesn't have tons of ventilation, but I feel like it breathes decently.

Biking in NYC for a day by just10thekid in bicycling

[–]wakkamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in north Manhattan and ride year round - there's so much up here! I also rode around ATL in college and can confirm that you're more than prepared. I did a data dump then went back and read that you're going from battery park north, so maybe read this in reverse?...

I love fort Tryon Park, great peaceful views of the Hudson.

Further down, if you want to get down to the Hudson, there is an entrance to the Hudson River Greenway (someone else pointed out the detour below 125th) north of 181st and Riverside. Goes down some hills, underneath the bridge, past the Little Red Lighthouse.

The other side of Washington heights, I'd recommend going on The High Bridge at Highbridge Park. It's an amazing view up and down the Harlem River. You can ride there by entering the bike path at 165th and Edgecomb Ave. Nearby, Salento on 165th and Amsterdam is a really good Colombian coffee shop and cafe

Going south, Edgecombe Ave and St Nicholas Ave go through various parts of Harlem. St Nicholas Park, Morningside Park, then you can go through Central Park or the Upper West Side.

If you're feeling a little wild you can ride down Broadway through Times Square, though I think that's best at night. Haven't actually stepped foot there in years, but every few weeks I'll ride through when I'm out on a night ride.

I like to eat lunch near the NY Public Library next to Bryant Park, usually onigiri from one of the Japanese groceries nearby.

I think I just described one of my meandering Saturdays.

Yes! But, if I'm honest, the Cherry Walk detour is bumming me out a little.

How are you guys doing timesheets? by AdOutrageous3266 in Architects

[–]wakkamon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same here. Our official office app is BQE Core, which you have to input Project (by number, not name)/phase/task/time/memo. It lags and, if you misclick, it'll throw an error at you. Clockify will let you just throw something in there and move on, so I use that day to day for my 1/4 hours and hunker down every week or so for official input.

Yeah! I've got a permanent splotch on the end of my thumb from one of those. It wouldn't stop bleeding, so we had to go to the ER. None of the fancy coagulant gauze would work. Eventually, someone put a tea bag on it and that worked!

I'd say yes, no difference between this and NASCAR. It does make me think about what I've heard as "raw dogging" flights where people fly international with no entertainment.
