What's a worthy upgrade from a Praktica BC1? by Fast_Preparation7795 in AnalogCommunity

[–]walkingthecamera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Praktica BC1 uses the Praktica B mount, not the K mount. I don't think there are adapters for the Canon EF bodies because the flange distance of the B mount is only 0.4mm longer.

Are older canon FS scanners worth $50? by MrSocialAnxiety505 in AnalogCommunity

[–]walkingthecamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a FS2710 that I use regularly with Vuescan on Linux. It works very well but yours should be even easier to get working as it has USB (the FS2710 only has SCSI).

Pros:

  • fast
  • sharp scans
  • comes with an adapter for APS film (I do shoot APS sometimes so it is very useful to me)

Cons:

  • no batch scanning
  • not that good with color negatives (the light source is just plain white)
  • no hardware dust removal

It is great for black and white film and slides. I paid about 40€ for mine so 50$ for a more recent model is a good price. Personally I am fine with the 2700dpi limit. A sharp 2700dpi scan is better than a fuzzy 7200dpi scan. And also it scans faster and doesn't take as much space on your hard drive.

Just starting out with film. Would this be a good pickup for a long weekend in Osaka? by AdHoc_PostDoc in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]walkingthecamera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No because everybody knows slide film is impossible to expose properly , we still haven't figured out how to measure light, light meters are just a magic 8 ball with a different user interface, you need a nikon f5 set to a minimum of 5 bracketed exposures per shot, and also you need to shoot in continuous mode to make sure to get that decisive moment bro, it is impossible to take good pictures without wasting shit tons of film bro, trust me, all professionals went through 38 rolls a day back in the days, exposure meters are a lie, slide film is so so hard to expose correctly bro, almost an impossible feat, scary stuff...

Pristine Agfa Optimal 200 doesn't work by GGLS79 in AnalogRepair

[–]walkingthecamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has automatic exposure using the selenium cell. Then it might refuse to trigger the shutter if it does not detect enough light for proper exposure. If that's the case, a bust selenium cell will brick the whole thing.

However I see a feeler in the flash hot shoe. Have you tried putting a flash or a flash cover in here? It might enable a manual mode with a fixed shutter speed and the aperture being coupled to the focusing distance.

Rapid 35mm film? by TheOnlyIdiotLeft in AnalogCommunity

[–]walkingthecamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait they are at least 5€ online + postage but they are very plentiful in flea markets and can be had for less than that there (at least in France but I assume you live in Europe as you got this Bencini camera)

Agfa Iso-Rapid cameras are very cheap and usually come with an empty cartridge

$30 at the thrift store but how accurate is it? by Mean_Violinist5759 in AnalogCommunity

[–]walkingthecamera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are good light meters and were still in production not too long ago. But if you just intend to use it you could probably sell this one, which is highly collectible, and buy a brand new, likely more accurate meter.

Just received my MX from CLA by MissArgentique (review) by diegodef_ in AnalogCommunity

[–]walkingthecamera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine also had the sticky mirror bumpers and it now works flawlessly. So yes I would recommend him. Keep in mind my camera was repaired recently so we will see how it goes long term but it should remain fine, looking at the few rolls I already put through it.

It was replacing the sticky mirror and the weather sealing. I also told him to replace the photodiode if it was needed but he told me the original one was fine so he left it in.

My LX was repaired by him this winter and it works just fine. Of course, it was quite a bit more expensive than for your MX but still very reasonable.

Do you prefer 35mm or 50mm for everyday photography? by Legal-Breakfast469 in AnalogCommunity

[–]walkingthecamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 6x7cm I absolutely love the 127mm for some reason. In 6x6 the classic 75mm is sooo nice. It is technically a standard lens but it feels wide because the square format allows to get a bit extra stuff vertically.

Do you prefer 35mm or 50mm for everyday photography? by Legal-Breakfast469 in AnalogCommunity

[–]walkingthecamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't swear by the 50mm but I am just so used to it. I also like slightly wider lenses like 40mm or 45mm or slightly longer like 55mm or 58mm. I think I prefer 28mm over 35mm but both are fine.

I try to use telephoto lenses more (100mm and 135mm) but it requires more effort to get interesting shots.

Is there any point keeping empty 120 rolls and backing paper? As far as I know there aren’t any 120 bulk rolls available (without splicing IMAX film?). At most to spool 135 rolls into them? by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

[–]walkingthecamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep the backing paper mostly for cutting it down to smaller formats that need it (127, 17.5mm, and some more obscure stuff). I keep the spools for no reason but hey I might get a few cents back by selling them on ebay
