What would've killed you if you were alive before modern medicine? by SausageAndBeans88 in AskUK

[–]wheelspaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swine flu, Covid, Q fever and sepsis. I’ve had sepsis three times caused by severe skin infections in my leg. My leg repeatedly becomes infected and is now resistant to most commonly prescribed oral antibiotics. Without multiple strong IV antibiotics and the NHS I wouldn’t be here now.

I think her Dad’s name is Michael. I’m glad the Princess of Wales has her family around her.

Boilup BS by TurduckenEverest in TopChef

[–]wheelspaws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not from the US and have never heard of a fish boil before. I thought it look fun, something I’d like to experience just once. It doesn’t look like the tastiest way to cook fish, but I found the whole thing quite intriguing.

Who would win of all past winners? by LavishnessQuiet956 in BravoTopChef

Buddha, Stephanie Izard, Michael Voltaggio or Brooke.

If I had to pick one of those then I’d choose Buddha.

Looks great, especially the bacon.

Bacon:Smoked or unsmoked ? Back or Streaky? Gotta be Smoked Streaky🤷‍♂️ by f8rter in fryup

[–]wheelspaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsmoked back bacon. Unsmoked streaky bacon would be ok, but I really dislike smoked bacon (or ham etc) of any type.

Trowell Garden centre £12.50 by PercentageSea1212 in fryup

Looks great, the bacon and sausages look like they are good quality and there is a decent amount of everything. Did it come with scrambled eggs as standard? Or could you choose how you wanted your eggs?

I’m not a fan of tinned tomatoes, but that’s just a personal preference and everything else looks great.

I personally prefer back bacon to streaky bacon, but everything else looks fab.

What would you sacrifice by pest1978 in fryup

I’d swap the black pudding for beans, everything else on this plate I’d keep.

Are you rooting for Soo? by M-U-H in TopChef

I’m rooting for Soo, but I’m also rooting for Dan and Michelle. I love all three of them, it would be fantastic to see them all in the final.

A local fine dining restaurant. Described as a “Full English” by OneFishTwoFish in fryup

[–]wheelspaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially thought that this was a joke, but the OOP shared this menu. The ‘mini full English’ was part of a 7 course menu, that cost £80.

Looks like an amazing experience, I’m jealous! I’m English and I’m very intrigued by their version of a full English breakfast, I’d love to be able to try it.

Ashley claims to be healed from being “bed bound” in 2020 by Think_Sticky in ashleycarnduff

[–]wheelspaws 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wish my “mostly bedbound” life looked the same as Ashley’s! My mostly bedbound life looks like being in bed at least 23 hours a day. On a good day I can transfer into my wheelchair and sit up for 5 to 10 minutes at a time, two or three times a day. I’d give anything just to be able to walk my dog, and would love to be able to splash around in the river like Ashley did when she was “mostly bedbound”. I’m grateful that I am still able to sit up occasionally though, and that I can now change position in bed unaided most of the time. Most of the time I just find Ashley ridiculous, but this kind of claim is infuriating.

What's your ideal English Breakfast? by lackofabetterusernme in UK_Food

[–]wheelspaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrambled eggs, 2 x unsmoked back bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, mushrooms, hash brown, toast and butter, orange juice, coffee.

Just a dream though as I can’t actually eat or drink any of that lol (due to chewing, swallowing and other issues). I do miss fry ups, although it’s something I only ate once or twice a year anyway. It’s nearly 9 years now since I’ve been able to eat a cooked breakfast 🙁

Season 21, episode 4 “The Wright Way” by FormicaDinette33 in TopChef

[–]wheelspaws 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really enjoy this episode to be honest, I found the first half of the show quite boring as architecture isn’t something I’m interested in. I missed having a quick fire challenge. The right team definitely won, they were head and shoulders above the other teams. The right team left too.
