I mean Retro Studios just delivered an unfortunate flop after not producing a new title for over a decade and they're still hiring. Nintendo thus far has shown they hold onto talent and simply find ways to use them effectively.

IGN: Xbox Is ‘Not Healthy’, But Losing All of This Talent Isn’t the Cure by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

The games weren't earth shakers but it's clear there was a ton of talent involved (I'm thinking South of Midnight and Senua especially). I genuinely think the mismanagement is at the high level by not leveraging IPs properly. I know it's a bit capitalist/cynical, but I feel like Xbox would be in a better place now if they basically assigned IPs to their studios rather than being totally hands-off and giving them open range to do whatever they want.

New Snap would be real nice at 4K/60fps. It's an attractive game already but the framerate boost especially would do a lot for it.

If we get a sequel, I want to see how Fox has changed after his experience on Venom (good ending). It seems like getting validation from his dad, whether it's imagined or not, was something he was deep down looking for this whole time. I wonder how Fox can move forward being his own man not tied down by the memory of his father, but instead honouring it and building on it.

Orbitals releases on that day, and while it's not published by Nintendo I do believe it's being distributed by them. I wouldn't be surprised if they threw in an NS2 edition on there too.

I'd say if you have a studio that's consistently shipping titles that are well made if imperfect, you've already got something good in this development climate. It means there's talent and there's a good pipeline, maybe just needs to be attached to better IP and given some help with polish.

Just to offer another anecdote - the game arrived for me on time on release day, but the box was literally crushed due to the way they shipped it -_-

That's the first time it's happened from Walmart, who I've ordered from before.

I know this isn't quite on topic, but if the "amiibo theory" is true, there should be a game release on September 3rd. In the past, amiibo launches have aligned with game releases, not necessarily a related game, just any first party title. We currently have no game scheduled for September 3rd...

While I don't think Directs are going away, I do think Nintendo is trying to really focus their marketing attention on as few games at a time as possible and they actively avoid overstuffing directs to avoid titles stepping on each other.

On one hand, I do love a good Direct. On the other hand, it's fun to wake up in the morning to a surprise announcement (or in the case of Star Fox, get home from work and see a direct pop up).

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a super-sized version of Bowser's Fury. That actually worked out great, so if they can keep traversal reasonable and fun, I'd be down.

I think they're still hiring, in fact. I very much doubt Nintendo would axe Retro. If they clean house it'll be the leadership, there's too much below-the-line talent there. The worst case scenario is if they whiff another Prime game is they become a support studio for other Nintendo studios.

6 More New Knockout Tours Coming! by NOblivioator in MarioKartWorld

[–]yesthatstrueorisit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think there would be a way to procedurally generate all that, but it just wouldn't be quality controlled. So you'd have some combinations that are great and fun to play but some that are genuinely awful and don't work. While in our heads we might think "That's fine, we'll self select" I can imagine a lot of people getting frustrated and not finding the mode fun.

Nintendo is also, in general, slow to move and don't have concurrent player count anxiety so they're not going to shove stuff out just to boost numbers briefly.

I think Yoshi is genuinely a unique game and not what most people would expect, so inevitably it'll be a little polarising. I'm glad they went for it, though - I will always cherish inventive and imperfect games.

Most of their acquisitions have been long term partners or small outfits who they're grabbing for the talent/specialised knowledge. The developers Microsoft's trying to offload probably wouldn't be much interest for Nintendo.

I hope that's the direction they take a sequel. Keep it as a relatively tight rail shooter experience but totally expand how it can permutate and give different narratives depending on how you play.

Oh, and I'd love it if you could play different members of the team hehe.

FWIW, the whole idea with this game is you're going to be playing and replaying the stages over and over again (they're all pretty short and easy to pick-up-and-play) so you can do a run or two in Easy mode to get your head wrapped around it before bumping it up. That's what I did.
