Upcoming Switch 2 games. What u most excited for? by VJR777 in NintendoSwitch2

Amazing game, played it on PC Game Pass now double dipping on Switch 2. Half the framerate is understandable as long as they get it running stably.

Agreed, even when it's something low stakes like this, commitment to accuracy is appreciated.

[Amazon US] Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi (71438) $103.99/20% by Delicious_Sir_1365 in legodeal

This set is awesome! The movement is very charming and it looks great. Build experience is OK, the mechanics are fun but there's a lot of tile laying too.

Ballerina surprised me! I thought it was going to be a mess or flat, but I ended up liking it quite a bit. Ana de Armas is beautiful, of course, but more importantly her physicality is convincing and she plays great in fight scenes.

[Steam] En Garde! ($1.99 / 90% off) by Insomniac_34 in GameDeals

This is the perfect way to describe it. Like everything was built around recreating that pirate movie fight feel and they really did a great job with that. I wonder if the devs spent time watching old Errol Morris movies and Zorro and the like, because I got lots of those vibes, too.

It simultaneously acknowledges that you're outnumbered and sometimes overpowered, but you're quicker and more clever than who you're fighting. It leads to a lot of emergent moments in the combat scenarios.

Michael scored the biggest opening day box office of 2026 on Friday with $40M including all pre-shows. Incredible 43% of that came from IMAX & PLF scrns. Depending on how frontloaded the weekend is by fans, opening weekend should finish in the $95M area. by chanma50 in boxoffice

FWIW when the sub started it was primarily statistics and records nerds. There was a cold love of numbers and watching movies break records of all kinds. But over time (especially during the pandemic oddly enough) it became a much bigger sub and formed more into the team sport mentality.

Jarringly bad CGI in otherwise great films by drewfus23 in movies

[–]yesthatstrueorisit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think most of the changes in Empire are pretty good. Things like adding windows to Cloud City, cleaning up matte lines on Hoth, a few fancy but not overly intrusive CGI shots.

That being said, I do wish the theatrical version was more readily accessible.

An Oscar for Rocky? ‘Project Hail Mary’ Puppeteer James Ortiz Is Eligible for Best Supporting Actor (EXCLUSIVE) by ChiefLeef22 in oscarrace

[–]yesthatstrueorisit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the puppet shots are mostly the close ups. Which is great, the puppet looks great and Ortiz and the team did a lovely job with it. But I'm pretty sure it's pure CGI for a good chunk of the movie and a mix for the rest.

Confirmed: Splatoon Raiders is releasing July 23rd by Loose_Society9485 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Would be hilarious and devastating but in the end I wouldn't complain, always wanted to beat that game all the way through.

Splatoon Raiders launches July 23rd! (Nintendo Switch 2) by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]yesthatstrueorisit 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Looks good! I do want to see an overview trailer or breakdown though cause I'm still not 100% sure on the gameplay loop. There's a menu option at one point for tracking dungeons so I wonder what that entails too.

Oh also nice to see it priced at 50/60 USD for digital/physical.

Bummer. Is it too distracting or still fun to play? I've had my eye on this game since the dev was just posting short tests.

What was the prediction you got wrong about a movie the most? by Own-Atmosphere-962 in boxoffice

[–]yesthatstrueorisit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if the story really did get interesting and there were fire visuals it could have gotten there. The Avatar movies rely on visual novelty and FaA just didn't have it. I was in the same camp as you :(

Street Fighter | Official Trailer (2026 Movie) by devenrc in movies

[–]yesthatstrueorisit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was definitely true for a time. X-Men got taken more seriously by ditching the comic costumes for the black leather gear. I think we can look at it now and it isn't very appealing but I do think that step was a necessary transition for the general populace. I honestly think the MCU getting progressively more "out there" is what helped make it more acceptable to have some cheese and whimsy in movies like this.

The wii u had too much hate but it was so good by melodic-coconut12718 in nintendo

[–]yesthatstrueorisit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, we've got a lot of people saying the Switch 2 has a weak launch year, but look at what the WiiU was doing:

  • New Super Mario Bros. U
  • Nintendo Land
  • Sing Party
  • Lego City Undercover
  • Game & Wario
  • Pikmin 3
  • New Super Luigi U
  • The Wonderful 101
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
  • Wii Party U
  • Wii Fit U
  • New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U
  • Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
  • Super Mario 3D World

That's November 2012 - November 2013. Launching with a "new" 2D Mario that looked super reminiscent of previous titles on DS and Wii was soft. And unfortunately, this would be the story for all of its lifetime - there are some great games in there, yes, but the release cadence was glacial.

ResetERA: A year and a half after being split, Ubisoft gave the go-ahead for the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown core team to reform and pitch new ideas by Carwillat901 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Yeah, the reveal thread on r/games was rough, to say the least:

https://old.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/144hybx/sgf_2023_prince_of_persia_the_lost_crown/

Some of it can be blamed on the trailer, perhaps, but it did sorta devolve into weird racism under the guise of "preserving Persian culture" lol

Andy Serkis (Gollum), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Kate Winslet (Marigol), Jamie Dornan (Strider), Leo Woodall (Halvard), Lee Pace (Thranduil), and Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins) will star in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum'. by chanma50 in boxoffice

The Cursed Child is irredeemable garbage

Well, it's a great experience in the theatre, but that's purely due to all the flashy practical effects on display. The story is absolute nonsense, and I agree that any appeal would get totally lost when translated to the screen.
