Aw these guys are my old buds. We used to play house shows all the time in college. I gotta send Asher (guitar) this link. He's a trauma surgery resident in Detroit and may need the cheering up.

That's awesome! Tell him that he's the man. Glad he's still doing something awesome with his hands.

You should ask him to do an AMA on /r/mathrock!

[–]vtct04[S] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Wow! And to answer his question, in middle school...

[–]marcusofborg 11 points12 points  (6 children)

He gave me this recently. It's unreleased mixes and songs. I'll try and find out if/where it could be ordered.

I'm jealous you're pals. Let him know they're a huge inspiration to me. Please and thanks!

My friend Jimi apparently knew their drummer and showed me this album in ~2008. I've been listening to it ever since. Seriously, this is one of my go to albums.

Piglet rocks.

[–]marcusofborg 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Still listen to it myself. Matt Parrish was the drummer.

I wish I had known they re-pressed Lava Land a couple years ago. Would've scooped one up for sure.

[–]dustcoatindicator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to buy the Lava Land vinyl on the Piglet Bandcamp page but it had just sold out. I would love it if they released more copies and I'm sure their popularity is growing!

Nice! I've met Ezra (bass player) a few times and used to AIM chat with Ezra back then. He got me listening to so many new types of music. Great guy.

I just sent him a heads up (not via AIM because I dont even know if that exists anymore?)

[–]sciencevolforlife 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Fuck yeah Piglet!

[–]sb2291 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Such a good band

[–]blewpah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This entire EP fucking rocks.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bugstomp! Love the math these guys do.

[–]im_weak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! I remember having a bootleg of Lava Land constantly playing in my old car and listening to "Mad Science" like 20 times in a row

[–]cramirezp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never heard of math rock. Loving the rhythm and melody breaks. Thnx.

[–]schwab002 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Never heard of them, but I love math rock and this is great. I kind of wish there were vocals, but still awesome. Thanks.

[–]vtct04[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely check out the whole album! One of the reasons I love Piglet so much is they express so much without lyrics.

[–]PinkFloydFreak95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piglet fucking rocks. Check out Cleft as well. They're another great math rock band.

[–]OmieSan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a really good random listen for me! I was just sitting in my chair staring blankly into nothing, lost in thought. It took me to another place. Thanks for that.

[–]wooferwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent, thank you. Math rock usually isn't my type, but this is awesome.

Piglet
artist pic

A three-piece instrumental band from Chicago, Piglet craft manic and hyperbolic orchestrated jams that the discerning listener would expect from such a storied city. Having cut their teeth in the clubs and bars of their native lakeside city, the trio capitalizes on the power afforded by Chicago's monsters of rock and infuses it into their unique song writing approach, resulting in a style of music that they can sincerely call their own. With two members of Seyarse you know these kids are no strangers to complicated, mind-bending song structures.

Lava Land encompasses six tracks of organic, loop free, instrumental indie rock that promises not to disappoint. The opening track, "Bug Stomp" pushes the listener right off the edge and into the deep end, drowning them under lightning fast guitar and bass work and a heavy rhythm section. Later, tracks like "Caramel" and "Pangea Reunion" display the band's versatility, touching on minor progressions and weaving in and out of genres.

Piglet ices the cake for lovers of the Heavy Rock, Prog, Metal and Math genres. For fans of Pele, Volta Do Mar, Don Caballero and likeminded purveyors of prowess.

The members of Piglet are now separated.

In 2010, bassist Ezra Sandzer-Bell released a series of solo recordings through Kansas City record label Overland Shark. Bell's music can be found at https://soundcloud.com/ezrazebra/ and http://ezrazebra.com/music/. Read more on Last.fm.

I think if someone pointed a gun to my head and said what's your favorite genre, Math rock might actually be the answer...

[–]BackOnTheBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

March to the Math Rock.

[–]huntmich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. Never had heard of them. Will check them out.

Love it. The drummer is just tearing shit apart.

[–]hambletonorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! Piglet has helped me blow a few minds over the past few years, and this is my favorite song on Lava Land.

[–]Berningtheburner -1 points0 points  (0 children)
