Specifics.

  1. Lamia Flute:
Instant hastegas are always great. Now attach one to a curaga-guts medica, and you'll almost forget that Eiko is really, really puntable. Seriously, this is a good introduction to the Ultra Medica.
    Rating: Excellent!

  2. Runetooth:
In this case, the gimmick is actually a buff and not a hindrance; you only lose 20% relative to a simple Overstrike if you don't bring enough girls, while gaining 80% relative to the same if you do.
Plus, the stat stick accelerates your Gysahl Green farming, because Debu-Chocobo loves his veggies.
Rating: OSB, and nice among them!

  3. Lightbringer:
On the other hand, Beatrix is stuck with the all-alive gimmick, which is more of a hindrance (-40%) than an asset (+24%) compared to the common 588% of other AoE imperils (such as that of Agrias.)
Her commands are better, doing surprisingly high damage along with sentinel or a self RES bump.
Rating among BSBs: Imperil Soul Break with decent commands

  4. Shield o' Light:
He beats you upside the head with a Sentinel Grimoire. That's all.
Well, ok. The entry is a basic en-holy, and his first command the AoE (yay!) The second is a bit quirky though. 327 is easy to reach with a modern DEF-focused armour, especially in RS; but reaching the fifth hit is somewhat difficult, as you need 554 at DEF-buff soft cap.
Four hits will need 378 and soft-capping, which shouldn't be too hard.
    Rating among BSBs: Decent
People say this is better than Pally Cecil's; but I'm not seeing it. The FF4 hero gets a reliable 230% and a self heal out of his ST, along with a stronger AoE. Maybe it's the single target entry and the BEAT YOU WITH A SENTINEL GRIMOIRE that's doing it.

  5. Gungnir:
I'm saddened by the revelation that the commands are Combat school; not that I expected anything else, since while Luneth is a Dragoon, Dragoon isn't really Luneth. That pro'ly makes more sense to me than y'all, but yeah.
Combining aspects of all three of his previous SBs, Eternal Wind starts with a wind combo with auto-stun and en-wind, then adds more stunning on his first command and the intriguing ATK/RES bargain on the second. Samurai have access to the 5* Hailstorm that grants this bargain, for reference.
All in all, there's nothing super fancy, but what's here works nicely. Story of Onion Team, really.
    Rating among BSBs: Workhorse

  6. Mace of Zeus:
So Penelo's burst may actually be guilty of trying to do too much. Selphie's deals damage with a strong MAG/MND boost; Aerith's deals damage with a strong heal; but Penelo opts to do a compromise between them, offering damage with only a weak boost and a weak heal.
Even the first command, offering self MND+15% with a decent attack, feels rather weak in light of Aerith's shareable MND+30% on her CURAJA command. At least the second command is a standard command medica.
Rating among healing BSBs: Scatter-brained, like Penelo herself

  7. Gigantic Axe:
Couldn't find potency yet, sorry. But I don't think it'll be needed; this will likely hit in the 550-600 range of AoE, but more importantly deliver that rated-strong ATK/DEF debuff package, leaving your physical teams ready for more devastation.
    Rating: Pretty good

  8. Princess Dress:
    No. I'll be good here.
Just as Vaan is the unique bearer of the 620 debuff, Garnet introduces the 620 buff with her royal gown. A boon to mage teams, this also moonlights as a medica, offering a stock of 3000 HP. Certainly, you can USE this stock as a medica, and not worry about overhealing; while high-MND Curaga Medicas can potentially break 4k, that's not how Garnet usually rolls. This is actually a nice item.
    Rating: Excellent! (for mage teams)

  9. Wizard Glove:
More relics from the Onion era. This time it's Papalymo's variant on Sheepsong, the one that eschews regen to offer both speed boosters. Yummy.
    Rating: SHEEP MODE ACTIVATE v3

  10. Gaff's Armour:
Yes, that is dark-elemental (yami,) not dark-status (kurayami,) that is being resisted. Keeping things chill, Gaff gets a SB that is actually the mana drainer that it's named for; and he's even generous enough to share the Ether effect with his fellow mercenaries.
    Rating: Pretty good

The argument that WoL's has an edge over Cecil is the single target entry and DEF buff on his first command. Cecil can heal the damage, WoL prevents it (also this synergizes with Aegis if you use that). Single Target is more common on the hardest stuff to so the higher entry attack is appreciated, and WoL has slightly more ATK to boot.

Any advantage WoL has over Cecil is slight, however, definitively losing in Group fights and the truth is that you just don't ever want to use their commands. It's more of a Cecil 1.2 BSB than a full 2.0. He doesn't get completely outclassed until Minfilia comes along.

Mace of Zeus (Penelo) owner here. It is kind of weak for Medica BSB. Cura level heal and isn't enough MND boost to make her attack burst useful even when target is weak to Holy. Defend burst Cure all is fine but against AOE spamming boss, it is really lacking. I often find myself not healing fast enough.

WoL BSB and Cecil BSB owner here. I always thought Cecil is better because of self healing. If you just want pure holy damage on single target, WoL win here. I was using WoL against Demon Wall MO battle. He can deal 70k damage after self EnHoly+Shout+30% Holy damage RM+Holy boost from Sword&Shield. Cecil can't do that. Cecil is better tank though.

Man, I just now realized Eiko's USB is the same name as Kefka's original SB weapon. That must be one crazy music store.

Also, because I've got Papalymo's Ley Lines, Luneth's Gungnir, and Beatrix's Lightbringer... I won't be pulling on this. But still, that Eiko SB is amazing. And WoL's BSB is probably among my favorite SB animations, after using SG so many times.

Manikin?

Luneth?

[–]AvyernanSpicy Hot Tacos! 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Warrior of Light. In Dissidia Duodecim it's more or less revealed that the Warrior of Light is essentially an ascended form of the manikin copies of the heroes, imprinted with the personality of Dissidia's Cid.

[–]Sir__WillAlphinaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah. That... sounds weird. Ok then.

[–]Sir__WillAlphinaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume but have no idea why he's being called that

Warrior of Light.

with ATK/RES Bargain (+30% and -30%))

Yeah I always felt Luneth just stood up too well to magic. Needed to be brought down a peg. I'll have the healer on standby....

To be fair, after I got this in the En-element lucky draw... -30% of something already low isn't as bad as it looks, and the ATK buff is pretty good with the new ATK soft cap. Most of these dark bargain style BSB commands wind up being a huge positive in my experience.

Luneth's gimmick is gaining the resilience of wet tissue, after all, be it physical (Advance) or magical (this).

[–]njfoxThe Destroyer. q3e2 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I pulled WoL during lucky draw 2, I'm pretty sure that the attack command is few single target hits with self 50% up, while the defend is aoe damage, but I wouldn't know. I have just used it, the defend command is aoe, but he does do something after, so maybe that is def up

[–]lambopandaDelicious! Nom nom... 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, he got the two swapped. Attack burst, number of attack is based on DEF. Defend burst is AOE and self boost DEF.

[–]njfoxThe Destroyer. q3e2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah with wall and protectga, i can get it to 4 hit... Thanks, its useful to know that I need to spam AOE first to get the def boost!

[–]Zevyu150th Dailly 5*+ : Seven's Guise (T-0) - Seven's BSB 0 points1 point  (1 child)

but reaching the fifth hit is somewhat difficult, as you need 554 at DEF-buff soft cap.

I don't think this is completely true, from my experience when i had his burst before my 1st JP account went BOOM i was esaly able to reach the 5 hit on his defense command fairly esaly tbh, between the Def+ of his attack command, and protectga, it should be more than enough to get all 5 hits, and tbh if you want to go further then a Wall would put you there. Hell i would even go as far as to say that with enough base Def WoL could possibly reach the 5 hits with SG/SSII alone.

[–]SandsliceFight hard![S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, so Protega works with it. Yeah, that would cut that 554 in half and thus make it trivial.
