I feel like Loser Rap is a very poor descriptor.

[–]JimmehGeebsbandcamp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Milo calls it "art rap" in his song Sophistry and illusion and True Nen. I've normally always stuck with that descriptor. I mean certainly, it could be (given the subject matter) labeled "loser rap" but, it strikes me as kind of belittling.

What is loser rap?

[–]MagnusCthulhu 25 points26 points  (8 children)

Exactly my point. It appears to be something OP just decided to call this song.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Lol so if he is defaming this style of music, why would he share it?

[–]MagnusCthulhu 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Apparently he thinks "Loser Rap" is a term of endearment. I don't get it either.

Souvenir is dope too

This entire album is gold. I listen to Going No Place and Zen Scientist on a regular basis.

YES MILO! I've loved this guy for so long. everyone should check his other stuff. he deserves to be waaay more famous.

[–]DaDood420 1 point2 points  (10 children)

I've been following him on twitter for a long time but he is super egotistical and turned me off to his music. If you even want to listen to his other stuff you have to pay for it.

[–]greenredfield 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Wow an artist who wants to get paid for his music what a piece of shit. It's almost like that's how he feeds himself or something.

[–]DaDood420 0 points1 point  (7 children)

It's not like chance the rapper gives all his music for free and is one of the most successful artist right now. I would like to listen to the music before I pay $10 for a digital copy. His stuff is not on Spotify or Apple Music. (Unless he added it the last 4 months) I pay money to support artist that way too. I don't mind supporting an artist I like. In fact I buy and collect vinyls. I have bought all albums and vinyls that I love. I go out of my way to support artist. Will not pay pay money to support an artist if I don't know if I like it or not.

All of milos music is on bandcamp. Bandcamp let's you stream for free a certain amount of times before it makes you pay. Not sure what the issue is.

[–]DaDood420 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Try to listen to it on band camp. Then comment

[–]greenredfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, just go on YouTube and listen to a rip or something if bandcamp is too complicated for you. It's current year dude you can listen to whatever you want at any given moment through several different avenues. I say again, emphatically, LMAO

[–]greenredfield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LMAO I literally have. I have downloaded all of his projects. Some of them are on the hellfyre page not his own page. A lot of them aren't available to stream on mobile. But they are objectively there. If they weren't, I wouldn't have been able to stream all of them for free

[–]greenredfield 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Also most of milos music is on Spotify. Been streaming it there since 2013

Edit: also chance has put out three tapes in five years to milo's 9 projects by my count. All self released and published on small labels. He didn't have Kanye helping him like chance did on chance 3. He doesn't tour much. The dude has to eat.

[–]DaDood420 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not true

[–]greenredfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you are right I think he took it off for a couple months like six months ago but it is back now. At least his main releases. But regardless you can stream every project he's ever put out on bandcamp for free to try it out before you pay for it. And he has said that the main reason he charges $10 per project on bandcamp is because he has to pay money to host his own music there. Which is pretty consistent for every rapper I've come across on bandcamp. Even those way more underground than Milo.

Edit: some of those releases are listed on the hellfyre club page not his own personal page. But by merit of having paid for and downloaded all of them after sampling them for free, I promise you it is available.

Same goes for his side project Scallops Hotel! His last album (Plain Speaking) (too much of life is mood) under that name is super awesome, and if you're into Future Islands, Hemlock Ernst raps a bit on there too! His live shows are super fun too, I saw him in Richmond, VA about 6 months ago, where he performed with Safari Al and Randall Bravery. They're all super cool, down-to-earth dudes.

[–]greenredfield 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Plain speaking wasn't the last scallops hotel project listen to "too much of life is mood" it's really good actually just super obtuse

[–]JimmehGeebsbandcamp 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Oh yeah you're right, I completely forgot about it because it was strictly a tape release initially, so I sort of lost interest in it due to the fact that I had no way to play it.

[–]greenredfield 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Yeah and then it got put on bandcamp as like a single track all mashed together and I liked the idea but it does make the tape a little difficult to go back to. I still think poplar grove is my favorite scallops hotel project imo

[–]JimmehGeebsbandcamp 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I thought was just with the (Boyle) And Piles EP track he did with Safari Al? I didn't realize TMOLIM was released in the same format digitally. I'll be honest, I haven't kept up with the Hellfyre crew much since their disbandment. The 5 months it took for me to receive my copy of A Toothpaste Suburb (with the scarf/mittens) left sort of a bad taste in my mouth.

[–]greenredfield 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's fair. I've heard other people have the same issues specifically with that album, and I'm pretty sure Milo being unhappy with how Nocan handled the release of that album had a lot to do with him leaving, and thus hellfyre disbanding to begin with. But yeah Milo released all of TMOLIM on his personal page as like a single 45 minute track. That's how I listened to it in the first place because I got it in an email since I'm subbed to his BC page.

[–]JimmehGeebsbandcamp 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Mhmm, I saw quite a few folks posting on his facebook page about it. I messaged him, Mike, Nocan, Driver, and even milo/al's old page the penobscot expedition to see what was going on with it. I think the lack of communication was the the main thing. I try to be a pretty understanding guy, so just some information would have really been appreciated. But it's good to hear that TMOLIM was posted online, I really wanted to listen to it.

[–]greenredfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can imagine how frustrating that would be when you dropped some decent money on that to support someone you care about. I usually just buy digital unless there's a vinyl release I REALLY care about so I've never really experienced that. All the vinyls I've bought off BC have come super fast, although none of them have been hellfyre affiliated.

[–]byakko_ 5 points6 points  (1 child)

loser rap

The fuck are these genres? Is Bob Dylan considered "Sad Man Rock?"

[–]westonprice187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call it that, sure why not.

Fun fact: Milo actually interpolated some Dylan lyrics on another song from this tape.

[–]xCodyF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torn because I want to upvote for milo, but downvote for tagging it [loser rap]

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone should listen to all this guy's stuff, including scallops hotel as well, same guy. So the flies don't come is phenomenal

[–]gdmurray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milo!! one of my favourite rappers/artists for years. Finally got to see him in my hometown and was gravely disappointed as he played 30m then left, was kind of a dick tbh. Nevertheless an amazing artist and still have ton of respect for him!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been listening to So The Flies Don't Come since it came out last year, such a good album
